Topic: Does your PS4 ever make noises while powered off?

I mean completely off. No power whatsoever. I'll be sitting in my room doing something else and out out nowhere I hear a tiny creaking sound coming from my PS4. It's like when your house is settling. It freaks me the hell out! I'm like what the hell was that? Is my PS4 rotting from inside or something?

Nope.
Never happened to my PS4 Slim.

Well it's weird. I'm starting to think my room is haunted. Not that I actually believe in that but still late at night in dead silence that really puts me on edge!

When i finished playing PS4, i always turn off the machine and remove the plug from electricity. Never put my PS4 Slim in Rest / Standby mode.

I have it plugged in basically at all times but I never leave it in standby. I don't trust it not to overheat. Should I just quit leaving it plugged in?

I don't know if unplugging and plugging it repeatedly is too good for it.

Perhaps you can check the settings to make sure it's now staying on some sort of sneaky stand by mode?

Bloop.

If I set my PS3 to allow my Vita to wake it up for some remote play, my PS3 emits a sound constantly. I let it happen for months/years but in the end thought it must cause unnecessary wear somewhere, so as I hardly ever did bother using the Remote Play feature, I turned it off.

That's my PS3 though. I have my PS4 setup for Remote Play waking too but haven't noticed any noise from it.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Mine starts furiously reading through the Book of Revelations in latin.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Clean your room more often, and get rid of the roaches living in your PS4.

@Zeldafan79 If it is in Rest mode it could still produce noise called Coil Whine. It comes NOT from the fans of the console but from the power supply. When electricity passes through the coils of the power supply they vibrate and produce that noise.

Nothing to worry about but it is irritating as HELL!!!

I always turn off mine completely after playing.

@Octane
I got plenty centipedes and spiders but I've never had roaches. Sometimes i wonder if the little creepy crawlies might crawl up inside my ps4 but it doesn't seem like there would be anything in there they'd want. There's no moisture or anything to eat.

@Zuljaras
Ah that's probably it then! Sounds about like the only logical explanation. Sure makes me jumpy when i hear it! I swear I've heard that even when it's completely off though.

You will have to open your PS4 or have an expert look at it. It is an unusual for hardware to to produce noise while completely shut off. My guess is that you have something living in your PS4 like roaches or perhaps other insects so you should get your PS4 cleaned before those nasty bugs destroy your console internally. It will also help to clean your living quarters...don't leave dirty dishes or laundry around and keep your hardware at a high and open place where you can see it.

As many have already said, this is most likely a problem. It is worth checking on the technical support forum

You know that's the hamsters inside having a stretch, don't you?

Uh yeah I'm not that much of a slob. I don't leave dirty dishes laying around. My room could stand to be dusted more often though. The sound kinda reminds me of the ticking from the second hand on an old wall clock. I usually hear it at night when there's not much noise going on in the house and it's definitely coming from my PS4.

Clicking sounds may not be good...it could indicate your hard drive is breaking. On the other hand, you are hearing this sound when the console powered down. Do you hear this sound just as soon you power down your PS4 or do you hear it even when you hear it when the console is off for long period of time? Regardless, you should have an expert look at your console.

My PS4 makes these noises even when it's been turned off for long periods. It's not in sleep mode either. It's all the way off. The sounds are really faint but i notice them.
