Not sure if any others missed this like me but I thought I'd post so we can all benefit:
How do Friend Summons work and how to maximize damage from a summon (to go beyond 9,999 cap)?
We all know how to get Friend Summons by adding friends via Game Codes. You can then Summon Friend in battle for some great attacks.
But I want to instruct HOW to send those great attacks to others. I wasn't aware until recently so I figured I would help explain.
1) Enter battle and select one character to SEND an attack. This will be the attack that you want to share so make it a BIG one. Buff the character who will send that attack. After that character is buffed, choose SUMMON FRIEND from that characters in-battle menu and then select the option SEND. Next select your single most powerful attack. Tip: This is a great way to use a SPECIAL attack. After battle you will be presented with your updated summon including power rating.
2) Repeat step one until you are satisfied with your power rating. The power rating soft caps at 9999, so if you can deal 9999 damage in one attack, that worthy of a pat on the back.
You can also increase the damage of the attack you send by exploiting weaknesses in your targets. For example, if you locate an aquatic enemy with an elemental weakness to thunder attacks, you can use the hunter skill set target aquatic with a thunder enchanted weapon to deal max damage. The attack you send just saves the numerical damage it does not care, for example, that your friend who uses your summon might not be fighting an aquatic thunder-weak enemy. TLDR: Use whatever tricks you can to maximize the damage of the attack you choose to send.
3) From the SAVE menu select UPDATE DATA while connected to Wifi.

You can remove the 9999 damage cap by using Bravely Second (aka SP). During Bravely Second there is no cap on your damage. So summon those sick attacks that you see from friends then.
