Man I wish that human enemies would ignore you like the monsters do if you're levelled out of their league. Nothing but a waste of time to have to fight all these soldiers who are too weak to be a meaningful encounter.

@Tainaru Joran can't be reborn in the usual way because he wasn't killed by a blade, nor did he live long enough for his homecoming. It's hinted that Z changed the way how things work throughout the millennia. In the beginning there was a lot less fighting among the people of Aionios. As for why he just doesn't kill everyone. He enjoys seeing everyone suffer over and over again. There have been plenty of Ouroboros in the past, but Z was always able to defeat them. That's the "flow" he keeps talking about. Only this time Noah and Mio are able to bring everyone together and know how to convince the world, including N, to move forward and stop living in the "now". Which leads to Z's undoing.
@Mioaionios That doesn’t make much sense to me, on the Joran part. Because if it came down to having been killed by a blade, homecoming or you don’t get to be reborn, then what about all the people killed by Moebius? Eunie, for example. She’s been reborn, but she and her colony were killed by a Moebius. You’d kind of run out of people after a while. Miyabi for example. Not killed by a blade, but she’s back too. Same for Mwamba. When M talks to the party she seems to imply that she pulled some strings to make it happen, that the party was ‘what she wanted them to be’. In short, it’s never really clearly addressed from what I’ve played. They go on about N and M being made from regret and the like, but that doesn’t make much sense. N is a Noah that chose to live in the endless now, he isn’t some ‘special kind’ of Moebius as far as we see. The stuff on Z is about right, he just does it for entertainment, and then gets ultimately defeated with the power of N and M’s desire to ‘move on’, I guess. It was a rather anime logic moment at the end, but that’s what it comes down to. Still not too sure on how Noah and Mio just get revived even though their moebius counterpart exists. Nobody else does that in the story as far as we know and it still feels like a plothole with rather weak reasons to fill it with that come down to ‘M wishing for it’ or ‘them being manifestations of regret’ which is about as weak as Z just being ‘the will to stay in the endless now’ incarnate. Then again, if that’s what the story is going with, it might just be that I’m very disappointed with the true answer to these questions. Haven’t done all the sidequests yet so maybe I’ve missed some stuff.
Sorry if this reply reads somewhat aggressive by the by. xD Kinda noticed looking back on it but it’s more my gripes with the story than that your answers were bad. Just figured I’d make sure that’s clear.
Also keep struggling with these spoiler tags, my goodness o-o Gotta get used to them.
@Takoda
All your questions and gripes about the story are fair and didn't come off aggressive to me, so no worries there. Xenoblade games are steeped in fantasy and sci-fi. You're right not everything makes "sense" and some things are left to interpretation. Unfortunately, this is very common in JRPGs. Also, some nuances might get lost in translation.
Still, out of all JRPGs I've played, I enjoyed this story very much. To me, it's more about characters, themes, emotions and what the developers are trying to convey with their message that's important. It usually doesn't bother me when a couple of details don't immediately make sense.
I had a ton more issues with XC2's story to be honest, and some consider that the gold standard of JRPG storytelling. 🤷
@Mioaionios Now that you say that, you’ve got a point. It just feels like XC3 in particular wanted to go for something more grounded in realism for most of the story, like even the moebius had rules to them. I might’ve just cut XC2 more slack because it went full-on anime right off the bat.
I guess at the end of the day it comes down to how the story resonates. It’s easier to overlook a plothole when the story and characters affect you in a special way, I’m sure I’ve done that plenty of times. When something lands right in the heart, even if it doesn’t totally make sense, that’s a valuable thing.
Who knows, maybe we might get some more answers in the expansion pass. I know that XC2’s DLC helped me understand Mythra’s character way more than before I played it, so they might pull something similar.
I keep buying fighting games for some reason, even though I barely got anyone to play against.
The more I think about Noah and N (also Mio and M), the more it feels like Z did not want to lose their bodies and souls from the cycle. I think he just had the material for another life and did not want to "waste" it. So after N became immortal, Z wanted to continue the normal way with Noah and Mio. However, I would be curious what would happen if our Noah and Mio would go the same way as N and M, lol. Would there be two consuls N and two M?
Anyways, I think their souls were created/restarted as new from the databank of Origin. Eunie rememberes flashes from her past while Noah and Mio do not (please correct me if I am wrong). Maybe the thing about N and M was that they disrupted the flow and Z just wanted to restore it by returning their original bodies and personalities back into the cycle?
@Tainaru
Interesting take. Food for thought. Eunie remembering flashes of her past life is more like a glitch in the system. The hero Ashera also suffers from it.
@Tainaru I think there’s a rather simple answer to your question with a number of possibilities. There can be no two consuls N and M, because honestly if there could be, then nothing would stop Z from just convincing every ‘reincarnation’ to become a moebius for him when they die (assuming that they can even be reborn after becoming moebius, which doesn’t seem possible.) So let’s assume Noah and Mio are special in that they did in fact get reborn, but then they also choose the endless now and give up the struggle. Noah and Mio go live peaceful lives in the city, like in one of N’s flashbacks, that seems possible. Maybe they get killed and the cycle starts anew, possible too. It could even be that N would absorb Noah in much the same way that Noah absorbed N when he finally convinced him to believe in the future and move forward. So the game kind of showed us most possibilities already. If Z could convince another version of Noah to also become a Moebius, I don’t see why he wouldn’t have done that plenty of times before this point. So I’d say they’d just start the cycle anew or get absorbed into the already existing N and M.
Or that’s just my take at least. Makes sense to me.

Anyone get the feeling they've seen the wave 2 teaser silhouette before? As in it being of a previous character from the Xenoblade franchise, I can't think who though.
@Grumblevolcano It kind of looked like a xenoblade 3 version of Sage, that new character from Sonic Frontiers. I know it isn't, of course, but it was my first thought, haha. Besides that, no idea.

@Mioaionios Glad you liked it! I’ve done a few Xenoblade mashups already, but this was the hardest for sure. I spent a good half hour trying to slow down the first song enough to make everything line up. Plus another half hour jamming to the sax. Game music has no right being this good.
@Takoda Thanks very much! Also glad you liked it. Mixing two songs whenever doing a mashup is always tough, but I try and adjust the volume so that I can hear both at the same time. The sax solos can be pretty overpowering though, so that was a (welcome) problem. The new version just sounds more fully formed though. It uses the whole audio spectrum whereas the original felt very small. Probably the budget. But yeah, thanks for enjoying it!
