For anyone who has played both Wolfenstein 2 and Doom on the Switch, disregarding story or multiplayer, which plays better purely from a gameplay viewpoint?

Also on the whole as a full package which would you prefer?

I played Doom during a store demo and it ran really well (handheld mode). I would have purchased it myself but I'm horrible at playing fast paced fps games with a controller. I can't comment on Wolfenstein 2 for the Switch, but I returned it after 40 minutes on PC (just wasn't as good as New Order imo)

DOOM and Wolf 2 have gyro, which really help for aiming on a console and especially a handheld. Second only to mouse and keyboard, but in my opinion far more comfortable at that.

Gameplay only? I'd say DOOM. Although Wolfenstein is good too, I think DOOM comes out on top there. As a full package that's a really hard one because Wolf2 has an excellent single player campaign with story and cut scenes, and the frame rate is so incredibly smooth it almost feels like 60fps. I'm not even kidding they really nailed the frame rate for Wolf2. DOOM is fine, I just say Wolf2 is a little better is all.

I don't know which one to recommend because they're both just so good. Maybe get doom and then when Wolf2 drops in price grab that one?

For the single player campaign I’m liking Wolfenstein better so far. I’m a few hours into it and haven’t finished it yet. But it doesn’t feel as repetitive as Doom. The visuals are great. I think the audio is better on Wolf than Doom. Doom still has a decent amount that plays multiplayer though. So it definitely has that advantage to it.

I’ll be putting some time into Wolf for a while. Even after the campaign there’s collectibles to find. I’d vote for Wolf.

so are there similar secrets to find just like in DOOM. Took me over 30hrs to find everything in Doom. So can I expect that of Wolf 2, too?

Full disclosure; I've yet to play Wolfenstein II, but I've played The New Order and The Old Blood to death on PC. I played through Doom twice, once on Switch and once on PC.

From a pure gameplay perspective, Doom feels more kinetic. They're both very run and gun, but Doom encourages agressive play much more than Wolfenstein, which asks for a more gentle, tactical touch with it's stealth sections.

Both games have upgrade paths for the character you play and the weapons you shoot, allowing you some customisation in how you're gonna go about your business in the game.

Doom has more verticality in it's level design and can at time almost feel like a first-person platformer, in a good way.

The first Wolfenstein did feel more 'chunky' with it's weapons, and I'm guessing the sequel is no diffrent. Doom's guns pack a wallop, and they feel like it, but Wolfenstein wins out there. The way the guns spray their lead and the enemies come apart feels more visceral. Doom is no slouch with it's schlocky melee mechanics, though.

Doom feels, in a way, more old-skool, more in line with games like Unreal Tournament or Quake. Wolfenstein feels more modern, like Half-Life.

If you wanna feel like a nigh-invincible acrobatic space marine cutting through hordes of hellspawn, go with Doom. If you wanna feel like a badass resistance fighter with a massive chip on his shoulder for the swastika-brigade, and who has the arsenal to back it up, go with Wolfenstein.

Both games are quite replayable and have nice lengthy campaigns (+15 hours each if you like to dig through levels for secrets and such).

My recommendation is on Doom because of the agressive play and melee mechanics (and because I haven't actually played Wolfenstein II; like I said, I'm speaking from experience playing the first game and it's expansion campaign and from what I know of the second game). But I highly doubt you could go wrong with either one.

@NintendoPete The first Wolfenstein kinda did; there were sections in between missions at your rebel base where you could find stuff for fun interactions with your crew and stuff for upgrades to your health and armor.

Also, the game had a whole bunch of perks you could unlock by accomplishing certain things, similar to the weapon points you unlocked in Doom.

And there were also items and such strewn about the levels, although the first game didn't have a map like Doom that helped with finding them.

I'm pretty sure the second game has plenty of similar items and mechanics.
