@WoomyNNYes There was an extremely long NSO maintenance a few days ago. Maybe related? I just went in to test make an icon and it was super fast in most menus, though a bit laggy in my animal crossing one which has 300 character options.

@FishyS Yeah, maybe that's the issue, the number of icon elements for a particular game. I was editing my splatoon 3 icon. I have 156 character options in that, where as for other games, I only have 15-33 character options, which mostly fit on one screen. Having that many icon elements collected for a game is more recent for me.

edit: I just tried using it now, and the icon editor in the app is slow, but not as slow as it was the other day. I wonder if that's a nintnedo server traffic issue.

@WoomyNNYes A lot of parts of the Switch UI are ultra fast for a certain amount of entries and then suddenly get agonizingly slow if the list gets too long.... like how the eShop was fast in the very early mostly empty days or how your wishlist turns into molasses if it gets long. I really hope they fix that type of behavior in the next console.

@WoomyNNYes For the record, both the eShop and NSO app are entirely browser based.

@Ryu-Niiyama

Feels about the same as Crystar or Crymachina.

Just a solid PS2-era action/rpg. Thoroughly AA and serviceable.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,536 games (as of December 14th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

@Magician Thank you! I definitely felt the old school vibes, but that is a good thing and I am enjoying the combat. I don’t know if I will pick up day 1 but it is on the list.

As for Nintendo published games on Switch, I usually end up only really caring about 2 or so of them each year (I know, fake Nintendo fan). However, 2023 is pretty much an outlier for me. We got so many awesome games that year. Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Pikmin 4, Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Super Mario RPG are all legendary status games and some of my favorites on Switch. I enjoyed WarioWare: Move It! quite a bit as well. Not to mention the wonderful Super Mario Bros. Movie and some Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC added on top of all of it. That's like 6-7 games which is a very strong for just one year. Out of my top 10 favorite games on Switch, 5 of them are from 2023. That's half of my top ten! Maybe I liked this year so much since it had a heavy focus on Pikmin and Mario, and we even got a Kirby game!

for 2024, I already have Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and I'm sure Super Mario Party Jamboree and Mario and Luigi: Brothership will make it among my favorites as well. No Nintendo games in 2025 interest me that much so far but I bet that'll change once they announce more games (since there's only 3 confirmed so far)

Anyone else think 2023 was a really strong year for Nintendo? I know a lot of people consider 2017 to be the best year for Switch, but personally I'd put 2023 over 2017.

@PikminMarioKirby It's too early to rank 2024 considering there are 3 pretty major games remaining, but I suspect it will be somewhere in the middle for me. Ignoring 2024, 2019 is my favorite Switch year and I think 2017 and 2023 are a tie for second for me.

There was a thread ranking the Switch years a few months back:

https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/rank_ever...

Next year will be an interesting question since it will be a mix of two devices, but considering there are already two potentially amazing games on the docket even before 3D Mario etc. are announced, I suspect it will be a pretty remarkable year game-wise.

@FishyS 2019 was a pretty good year, especially with Super Mario Maker 2 and Luigi's Mansion 3.

2025 will be such a good year if we get 3D Mario (which seems really likely), can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store!

It seems pretty much inevitable regardless of whether Switch 2 comes out in Spring or Fall. Pokemon Legends and Metroid Prime 4 might be amazing games but they will want multiple big Switch 2 exclusives also. Considering there is also DK remaster, likely Zelda remaster, probably some Kirby since it is overdue.. I may buy far too many Nintendo games next year.

@Novamii I think the next 3D Kirby has no shot for 2025 but I'm expecting a smaller Kirby game. Honestly Forgotten Land was already perfect, I don't know if more power would even help but I am hoping for a sequel-- maybe 2026?

@Novamii @FishyS I bet we'll get some side Kirby game(s) on Switch in the next few years, but hopefully around 2026 is when we'll see the next big 3D Kirby.

As for other series in 2025, I don't think we'll get them in 2025 but it'd be nice if they'd at least announce Luigi's Mansion 4, Super Smash Bros. 6, or a new Animal Crossing next year!

It always annoys me that the NL videos do best 20 games or whatever but refuses to rank them 1 to 20. 😆

Kind of out of date, but we do have a thread for ranking Switch games also: https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/top_10_sw...

@PikminMarioKirby Personally I think 2022 was fantastic: Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Fire Emblem Three Hopes, Splatoon 3, two mainline Pokemon games, Bayonetta 3, Xenoblade 3, Triangle Strategy, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Plus we got some highly anticipated third party ports such as Persona and Nier Automata. I didn't play all of these nor necessarily love all of them...but wow, what a selection.

Tbh outside of an understandable slump around 2020-21, I think every year of the Switch has been fantastic, with notable games being released every few weeks. Even this year - with Nintendo's own output slowing down - I think there's been more than enough third party content (especially retro rereleases) to keep me happy.

@Buizel Switch has definitely been an embarrassment of riches.

2022 will always be peak for me when it comes to Switch. Just a really tremendous year for the system.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

2019 is the peak of Nintendo Switch in my opinion.
Nintendo Switch started to going downhill after 2020.

Playing through a bit of Echoes of Wisdom last night just made me more excited about the idea of Switch 2. In part because it's clear when playing the game that the poor Switch SoC is being pushed and at some points can only just keep up. It's not unplayable by any stretch but it's definitely enough to draw attention to itself

But maybe more exciting to me is how beautiful this game looks. They're definitely doing some neat tricks here. And that just gets me excited about what Nintendo and their partners are going to be able to achieve when they have RT cores, DLSS, buckets of VRAM and CPU/GPU cycles to spare

We're going to have a fun ride over the next few years I suspect
