@WoomyNNYes I mean, I think you're on the right track. Galaxy is weird because they can re-release it anyways since the game was so limited in release... but also there are so many physical copies it's still not hard to get. But in general, the idea that 'Wind Waker HD and TP HD were completed and are being held back' makes sense.
I can't see Nintendo not making plans for an emergency, and I think those two games are both being held for when a major game has to get delayed and they need something that'll make a splash to fill in a hole in the release schedule. Tanatalus likely would have developed them given their release schedule slowed down strangely for a couple years. (That just so happen to line up with when all the rumours were going crazy)
Anyways it doesn't have to be for the Switch 2 necessarily, but I think it's one of the easiest options they have for an emergency pressure release for their dev teams. And even if they were devved for Switch 1 initially, it sounds like moving them over to Switch 2 should be relatively simple based on what we're hearing about the dev kits.
EDIT: I will say that if they really were made, we'll almost certainly see a cross-gen release / late switch-only title whenever they finally come out if they are held for Switch 2. If it's a Switch 2 only release then unless we find more evidence I'd assume it's not related to the old rumours.
@link3710 Good points. After the Wii U console flop, and after the pandemic (which delayed game development and hardware supplies), that would be a smart way to build a cushion of safety.
Also worth noting that Nintendo wants a Zelda release every year. Both 2023 and 2024 have major original Zelda game launches, so dropping the HD Gamecube remasters doesn't make a lot of sense.
I'm also guessing the new console is BC, so a Twilight Princess/Wind Waker release will feed both next-gen Nintendo early adopters as well as the 140+ million strong Switch 1 install base.
I could see:
2025: WW/TP HD
2026: Grezzo remakes of the Oracle games
2027: Something third-party that utilizes the Zelda license
2028: I think this is where you could start reasonably imagining another new Zelda, but it's probably still too early. Maybe another "2D" game? A spinoff? Who knows.
In terms of 'holding games in reserve' I'm still not convinced Nintendo didn't have World Championship NES in a box for 4 years and dusted it off because of Switch 2 release schedule changes.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got another random drop like that this year.
But I do think a Zelda remaster as the 2025 Zelda game feels likely.
I do wonder in terms of Wind Waker/Twilight Princess whether or not they would benefit from some of the extra power of the "Switch 2". It's difficult to see how they would. I have said before that a Wind Waker RT could be a possibility but the more I think about it the more I wonder how RT would benefit a game that has a very specific lighting style. Could be an interesting experiment at the very least, a very non-typical use of the tech
But with Twilight Princess there's obviously a fair bit of room for the asset quality of that game to improve. But even there, it's a bit hard to see how an enhanced version of Twilight Princess wouldn't be 1080p/60fps on Switch. Obviously it's a more "realistic" looking game so some of the extra tricks of the Switch 2 would be useful there. But I'm not sure how much reward you'd get for effort out of it

@FishyS It was almost certainly made in 2022. Indieszero makes one game a financial year minimum, except FY 2022 has no game, and 2024 has a very rare dual release from them.
It just dawned on me that September is packed with releases. I won't be able to keep up with everything I had wishlisted. Just to name a few, EoW, Plucky Squire, Bzzzt, and I believe rugrats as well? I know I'm forgetting some. Not to mention two games that just dropped in pizza tower and castlevania collection which I need to buy.
@NintendoByNature I don't think we know the price of Plucky Squire yet... unless it is pretty cheap it will definitely get bumped to my wishlist coming that close before Zelda. That timing may hurt the game a bit at least on Switch since I bet the audience of those two games has a lot of overlap.
@Haruki_NLI It's appeared as a mention on several people's indeed profiles, and appears to have been cancelled in December 2016. Don't think it's outright bunk, just a game that was cancelled after the initial demo. Based on the time people list working on it, the game only existed for <6 months, like many projects. And then somehow leaked a couple years later and everyone made assumptions.
As for the others, there's some minor evidence that 'Stars' was likely a tech demo of USUM running on the Switch, though it's hard to say if it was ever planned to really exist (similar to the tech demo of BotW running on the Switch successor we've heard about and numerous others). The biggest evidence remains that USUM was originally listed as a 3DS / Switch title on TPC's official site when announced, only for the Switch listing to be removed later that day.
Star Fox Racing... yeah probably total bunk designed to out leakers via some screencaps from Starlink. The fact that a Star Fox themed racing mode appeared the year after those leaks is far too strong of a coincidence in my book. But no real proof there.
@Haruki_NLI Yeah, I'm assuming that if the USUM port on Switch existed (I'd give it like a 60% chance) it was TPC trying to assuage Nintendo while avoiding developing any actual content. When Switch took off, they were forced to suddenly change tactics and make a real game instead.
@Haruki_NLI
TPC are laggards. Just about everything they do doesn't really make sense to me. Them thinking that the Switch wouldn't land and betting instead on the 3DS remaining the platform to target for as long as they did doesn't surprise me in the slightest
The Stars bit always made sense to me as a thing TPC would do. It always sounded like a "we'll just throw this over here for Switch just to help out". Obviously once the Switch did what it did the idea that never made much sense really didn't make sense
I have a problem with charging the left joycon on the Nintendo switch either the left joycon will continue to charge without stopping or it will stop charging and we'll be stuck at 2/3 full the right one is fine what is the problem and what can I do to solve it? That doesn't appear to be any visible issue with the connection on the left joycon but as I've said it will not charge and I didn't it as I've said it's having charging issues and I don't know why this is it started the last time the charged it which would be like a week ago or so.
Wow, has anyone tried making a new switch user icon through the NSO app on the Switch? Last night when I went to create a new icon, the whole interface was painfully slow just to select or scroll through icons I already own. I guess that whole interface for selecting NSO icons you've collected is web browser based? Maybe I'm the last to realize this? Anyway, I couldn't believe how painfully slow it was.
@WoomyNNYes It also chugs if you have a large game open and it even warns you to free up RAM.
This is actually a big reason why (outside of security reasons) consoles don't have browsers anymore: RAM usage is too damn high even on bespoke ones. Webpages these days are just fat.
