Sums it up fairly well. You always want to consult your local Southern friend when visiting The South. In general the whole southern hospitality thing is true but we either place too much emphasis on manners (long goodbye or thank you cards) which means you can accidentally insult someone and not know it. Lol. Of course each of these things vary by state except FL (they don’t count) so you have that hurdle too. I find it extra funny because it reminds me of the culture shock I endured in college (until I found some fellow Southerners to form a united front with).

I’m trying to decide. Monkey Ball, Disco Elysium or Metroid? Can only pick one this month.

Like I said I’m from the south, born and raised. I’m pretty chill about it unless a BBQ argument gets started. Then the gloves come off and I get hainty as heck.

Hey you have samurai warriors 5 right? How far have you gotten? Is the frame rate ok? I played the demo but I wanted to ask someone past that point.

Also since banana sandos were mentioned: Anybody eat banana and mayo sandos? I’m not a fan personally, but they aren’t horrible if you have the right mayo (only reason to buy Dukes in my parents’ house).

Metroid. Not only do I think it's the best game of the three, I think it needs the support the most, and you'll enjoy being in the conversation and sharing in the hype with everyone else, and it's the only one that won't see a price drop. The others will, meaning by waiting on them, you save money.

As for Samurai Warriors, I've played about an hour. So probably less than the demo you played. But the framerate was solid, surprisingly. Can't speak for later in the game, but I kinda feel like Warriors games are the same from start to finish. If it managed one map of a thousand enemies, it should manage them all (in theory, anyways).

As for the abominable banana and mayo sandwiches... my dad is a diehard banana sandwich fiend. Never understood it, don't wish to. But apparently, some ppl are into it.

Just keep in mind, my dad is from Louisiana, where they kill wild gators, chop em up and make gator gumbo in oil drums, stirring it with a boat oar for their BBQ picnics. So that may partially explain his culinary preferences.

@Ryu_Niiyama I'd go Metroid. (Would love to say Monkeyball...and if it was as gorgeous as the gamecube version, I would in a heartbeat. But it's not. So I won't.)

I prefer a fresh banana rather than being cooked. It will get mushy textures after being cooked.

I really hope the Series 5 Amiibo card will include Raymond and other new villagers from ACNH.

I'm browsing the forums and writing this post on my Switch. Did not know about this, buts it's pretty cool. No zoom though, and embedded Youtube videos don't play.

Never tried because, well, there’s just no need to browse on a console. Smartphones and iPads have made it unnecessary.

However, I did use the browser this week for my hotel room, when connecting my Switch to the internet. Good thing they included that feature.

Also, FYI, if you’re ever in a hotel and connect Switch to HDMI, it probably won’t display on the TV because they set their TVs to be unable to change inputs. But if you unplug the HDMI from Input 1 coming from the box they have behind the TV, and plug your Switch into that, it’ll work. Good info to have if you’re ever in that situation.

Per a new interview with Nintendo top brass concerning Joycon Improvements

The analog stick at first release cleared the Nintendo reliability test using the method of rotating the stick while continually applying a load to it, with the same criteria as the Wii U GamePad’s analog stick.

As we have always been trying to improve it as well, we have investigated the Joy-Con controllers used by the customers and repeatedly improved the wear resistance and durability.

The parts of the Joy-Con analog sticks are not something that can be bought off the shelf but are specially designed, so we have undergone a lot of considerations to improve them. In addition, we improved the reliability test itself, and we have continued to make changes to improve durability and clear this new test.

When the effects of our improvements were confirmed, we promptly incorporated them into the Joy-Con controllers that are included with the console, Nintendo Switch Lite, and the ones sold individually, that were manufactured at that time. This involves the internal components of the Joy-Con, so you can’t tell the improvements from the outside, but we use the new versions of the parts when we repair them. Also, similar continual improvements have been made for the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller as well.

I was saying as much. We haven’t heard anywhere near the number of complaints from Switch Lite owners as we did from the original joycon from the first two years on the market. A statistically significant difference in proportion defective. Not that the problem can ever be entirely eliminated. because all products will wear and degrade with use. Every analog will drift eventually. It’s just a question of mean time to failure. I think if joycon analog sticks could last five years with reasonable wear and tear, that’s good enough for most people.

And, at least so far, that’s what I’ve seen. My Switch Lite is still going strong, as are my joycon. I suspect anyone with joycon from 2019 or prior may be at high risk. 2020 less risk. And 2021 the lowest risk. Because I’m sure they’ve made several improvements overtime as they said. It’s the quality motto- continual improvement

Great to hear though. If they had just come out and said this along time ago I think it would’ve done them a lot of good. Sometimes Nintendo‘s secrecy actually does them harm.

Tetris Effect got a TV-style commercial for the launch of the Switch port.

In the interest of not starting an argument I will merely refute the white, straight or christian argument. Granted, american culture as a whole tends to force some variant of christianity (and heterosexuality and white supremacy culture is part of the life blood of this country- not a knock on white people in general as supremacy culture hurts everyone in the long run) on to people but the South is a lot more diverse than people tend to give it credit for. Some of that is due to unfortunate implications (anti immigrant sentiment and racism) but nonetheless many ethnic groups have quietly thrived in the South. Chinese railroaders needed somewhere to go after they were kicked off of the railroads and have a decent plant in some southern states, there has also been an influx of Japanese and Korean Americans that are southern as well. Obviously African Americans, First Nation peoples and Latin American peoples have roots in various southern states as well. I’m not talking about first gens either but people that are just as Southern born and bred as the group you are mentioning. I’m not saying that the South is perfect, but I can say I have endured more hostility outside the South than in it. You can’t pay me to live in the midwest for instance. People are terrible everywhere but there are also good people everywhere if you look. I’m sorry you had a negative experience though.

Ok I am leaning towards buying Dread. But I also saw a book I want is on sale (which leads to me putting more books in my cart) so I will see later if I pick games or books. I need cheaper hobbies (I know, don’t we all).

Edit: that is the only thing I hate about Tetris you can feeeeel the conditioning. Human brain is fascinating.

I lived down there. You can find "phony" people anywhere. But generally speaking, people ARE much more hospitable and friendly.

And Idk about any "phobia". I've never actually met someone with a "phobia" where they have an unexplained fear, except for spiders and 4 inch cockroaches. People may have their personal thoughts on things, and that's their right. Nobody should be able to force anyone to feel a certain way. As long as they subscribe to live and let live and treat others with respect, their thoughts are nobody else's business tbh.

And the whole racism thing too... way over blown. I went to high school down there and yes, it's different. The hicks clique together as do the blacks and Hispanics, etc. But it has more to do with culture than "racism". On weekends when the parties would happen you'd see people of all colors at the bonfires. The most country hick of all smoking a blunt with the gangsters. Nobody cared.

Not saying the world is exempt of prejudice, but in my experience, peoples perception of how much exists is drastically out of sync with reality. And that was 25 years ago. Each generation the pot mixes more. Media and the culture has a vested interest in convincing you otherwise though. Gotta convince everyone it's everywhere. Because there's a massive power dynamic which thrives on fear of racism. Let that flame die out, and so too dies the power feeding off it.

But from the 15 minutes I've spent in Metroid Dread, all I can say is.... wow

It's so good. The movement is so fluid! The music is amazing, the visuals are top notch, audio is excellent, gameplay is oh so satisfying.

Ugh. Now I wanna call into work. No. Can't do that. Need to wait for OLED anyways. This game deserves the best- not this LCD screen on the Lite. We're moving on from that.

Just got the Message that both my switch oled and metroid dread is on the way. Getting it today or early next week. 🤤

I don’t think I’ll be buying Dread any time soon, but I started a new file on Metroid II (3DS VC) so I don’t feel left out.

Got my OLED in my hands now. Screen size difference is not noticeable but the quality absolutely IS!
