@Grumblevolcano I'm thinking the December slot will either be Ring Fit 2, or a major DLC pack for the first one. Get it out just in time for new years resolutions.

@Grumblevolcano I don't know - they do talk about it occasionally and acknowledge it, it's clearly a passion project for Platinum and the series is their "calling card" so to speak. They are known to spread themselves thin but I don't think that they'd prioritise other games over Bayonnetta - it's the series that the industry will always judge the health of that studio by.

I also think that they know that there's a time limit on the game if it's to be commercially successful. Nintendo will release Metroid Prime 4 to die on Switch if they have to if the Switch has already died on its feet commercially by the point its ready to release - just to honour that promise to fans (like they did with Skyward Sword on Wii and BoTW on Wii U). I don't think that Platinum can do that though with Bayonnetta - it's next year or they may have real problems selling it.

Then again - who knows?

One thing that's not been discussed recently is the idea that Nintendo might release a Mario platformer - even if it's "just" a HD port of Galaxy 2 - to tie in with the release of the animated film that's still due for release in 2022.

Pretty sure the new DK game will launch with a push from an animated DK film.

And a new Fire Emblem Echoes remake has to be coming next year. It'll have been 4 years since the release of Three Houses. Just looking at the years between Awakening, Fates and Shadows of Valentia, we're overdue.

@Giancarlothomaz
If it was Scalebound it would have been cancelled already.

The two games are not alike in the slightest. People have to learn that just because a game is announced early, it does not mean it’s cancelled. We’ve been over this time and again. I can’t even count how many times this has happened. First it was “Dragon Quest XI S is cancelled” then it was “Shin Megami Tensei V is cancelled”, and now it’s “Bayonetta 3 is cancelled”.

No. They’ve said like six different times now, specifically, that the game is fine and they will speak when they’re ready. This is a major game in an established franchise on an incredibly successful system… you don’t just “cancel” games like that. The only reason you cancel the game is if you think it won’t sell because the platform is not successful (Wii U, Vita) or the game didn’t turn out well, usually because whoever bankrolled it wanted something the developer is not comfortable with or skilled at (Scalebound). Neither of which apply here.

edit
Checking back for when Metroid 3DS special edition 3DS was announced, I see they revealed it in August, with the game slated to release in September, one month later.

IF we’re getting a Metroid themed Switch or Switch Lite, I suspect it would be announced September. I hope it gets one.

Btw, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water (English Asian physical release) is available on Play-Asia, and all orders this month get free shipping. It’s $70 but, such is the cost of importing. Anyone who does already knows the score.

Top 5 games I'm most looking forward for the rest of this year:
1. Monster Hunter Stories 2
2. Skyward Sword HD
3. Metroid Dread
4. Sonic Colours Ultimate
5. Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp

Release date does play a factor, 3-5 are months away meanwhile 1-2 are mere days away. That said MH Stories 2 would still be very high up in my top 5 even if the other games came sooner, I was already very excited for it but the demo made me even more excited.

@Giancarlothomaz Almost certainly a case of "will" become best selling, as i think the highest selling game is the original metroid on nes with 2.73 million copies. Judging by the hype and abundance of switch sales dread would easily surpass that.

Hope you're having a good day.

Ralizah

Most anticipated games for the rest of the year?

1) Shin Megami Tensei V
2) The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
3) Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
4) Metroid Dread
5) Horizon Forbidden West

Q4 is going to be a rollercoaster ride for me.

@chapu2006 Metroid Prime was the best selling Metroid game with 2.80 milions units sold, considering all the hype and the fact Metroid Dread is in top pre-orders charts on Amazon/Game Stop, the game will finaly break the Metroid sales curse and sell 3/5 milions units sold.

i like HD Rumble.

Honestly I could make a much longer list for games I'm excited for, but its just hard to be excited for "wow I hope I play this within 3 years of its release"

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

Jeez what a question... I'll limit it to top 10
1. Metroid Dread
2. Neo:TWEWY
3. Great Ace Attorney
4. SMT V
5. Danganronpa Decadence
6. Metroid Prime 4
7. Bayonetta 3
8. Tony Hawk 1+2 (I know it's out but I haven't gotten it yet)
9. Sports Story
10. Mario + Rabbids 2

You know it's a good year when BotW 2 doesn't even make my top 10.

I feel like, with rare exception, it's hard to be excited for a game that's not releasing within the next 6 months.

I'm not even thinking about 2022 yet. Much less games that are TBA. Not to say I'm not excited about them, but it's hard allowing that excitement to take root knowing it's so far off. I bury those feelings deep down and don't let them resurface until closer to release, when I can't suppress them any longer and they start bubbling up to the top.

@JaxonH That's fair. Metroid Prime 4 + Bayo 3 are exceptions for me. Mario + Rabbids 2 apparently as well somehow, if only because I'm still shocked at how improved the game looks from the first one. Plus, I'm hoping it's only a bit over 6 months out, like a March release.

Metroid Dread has helped alleviate the anxiety for Prime 4. That and knowing it's gonna be a loooooong wait.

I'm sure once Dread comes out, the thirst for Prime will be palpable.

Mario Rabbids does look really good. I never finished the first, so I can always revisit that in the meantime.

Not really sure about them abandoning the grid-based approach in Sparks of Hope, but considering how good the original was, I have to imagine they know what they're doing.

It's looking like it'll be the most visually impressive game on the system when it comes out.

I just got done playing Mario Rabbids on my Lite about 2 minutes ago (all this talk about it made me want to play). It is such an extraordinary game. The only thing I regret playing on the Lite is lack of HD rumble, which is so incredibly well done when using split joycon. I love the little vibrations when you roll through a pipe.

Anyways, given how good Kingdom Battle is, I fully trust Soliani in whatever creative direction he so chooses to endeavor. And we know non-grid-based action can work very well (see XCOM 2), and given the similarities between this game and XCOM in the first place, I think it will work quite well.

Nintendo platforms really are great at providing an alternative experience for most genres. And in the past that was needed because so many third-party games were MIA. But now on Switch, getting that 1st and 2nd spread across genres on top of 3rd party games really makes for a fulfilling library. It’s a constant feeling of being overwhelmed with too many great games, all of which offer hybrid freedom to play on the tv, handheld, or tabletop as a portable console.

Even if it’s not “on the go”, handheld on the Lite is so “low-barrier to entry” it makes it easy to pick up, wake from sleep and jump right back into a low commitment game, play for 20 minutes and set back down. Owning digital copies of games also contributes to this. It makes it so easy to jump in and out that I don’t really ever feel like playing anything else. I have a lot of games on Steam, for example, But because it doesn’t offer the same freedom and low barrier to entry (even taking 2-3 minutes to wake PC, switch inputs manually, open Steam window, fire up a game, switch audio to headset and turn that on, which is a must because the fans are loud, is enough that, when stacked against the 5 seconds it takes to jump in on the Lite, it loses out almost every time).

Guess I went off on a tangent about the Lite there, but ya.
