SMD brought up a good point that on the Nintendo website its "nintendos next HOME console", not handheld or hybrid. So I am 100% going with mobile phone connectivity is the mobile part of this devise
For context on what can be shown in 3mins with this sort of reveal trailer:
Nintendo 2DS trailer: ~1min
Showed the hardware and said it could play 3DS games
PS4 reveal trailer: ~2mins
Basically just a 2min onslaught of game footage and tech demos
3DS E3 2010 Trailer: ~2mins
No games but showed the 3DS itself and a little animation
Wii U E3 2011 Trailer: ~3mins
Showed the controller a lot. Also showed some in development games. New SMB, Wii Sports Club, Wii Fit U mainly. Also some mini-games and other stuff that ended up in other games. Video calls, browser, youtube and drawing apps. Finally they showed the Zelda Demo.
XBox - Project Scorpio Trailer: ~3mins
Lots of hardware shots and people talking about specs. That was pretty much it.
Wii E3 2006 trailer: ~5mins
Showed the controllers and console. Showed Wii Sports, Excite Truck, Super Mario Galaxy, Pilotwings (eventually went into Wii Sports Resort), Metroid Prime 3, WarioWare, Red Steel and Twilight Princess

To be fair, why would they say hybrid now? They're literally hours away from unveiling it. I know all the leaks are a thing but as far as official communication goes? It hasn't been said what the NX is. They're not going to spill the beans now....
And anyways, what's more exciting as an end user? Going into a reveal thinking it's a portable system only to find out that it's kinda bulky? Or going into it thinking it's a standard home console and finding out you can actually pick it up and take it with you? If the Eurogamer rumour ends up being true? Nintendo was always going to market it as a home console.
@Octane
As a Nintendo advert I think it will focus on how to play it and what you will play on it. No specs yet , just an idea of the looks and maybe developer saying how amazing NX is.
@skywake So, TL;DR, 3 minutes can mean anything, from a simple sneak peak at the system to a full blowout with several new games and whatnot.
I think we should accept that if Nintendo wanted to give us tons of info they would do more than a 3 min trailer. This will literally be just unveiling the concept and the name. They won't be talking about specs or games. However, if it does help illustrate the concept then they might divulge certain bits of information. Here's what I'm expecting:
Reggie talks about how they've been working hard on the Nintendo's new console system, codename NX. Reggie unveils the concept of one device and being able to play your games at home and on the go for the first time. Cut to trailer.
Trailer will show someone playing BotW at home. They'll then get up and take it with them and you'll see snap controller ends around the device and start playing it on the go. They'll then detach the controllers and use the device like a tablet by surfing the net, watching youtube and playing Super Mario Run. They'll then reattach the controllers and play Pokemon Sun/Moon (or similar 3rd version). Finally, they'll get back home and reattach the device to the TV and play Pokemon on the big screen. End with the console name and "there's no play like it"*.
Cue back to Reggie saying when they'll talk more about the NX.
*trailer is obviously dependent on what the actual thing is. My point is that I think we will only see software to the extent that it explains the concept. So in my example the fact that we get to see someone play Zelda at home and on the go, Pokemon at home and on the go as well as Super Mario Run all on one device it makes it a pretty clear message to consumers.
@DjLewe78@dtjive Don't think a company has ever straight up announced the specs, Nintendo for certainly not. I'm not expecting that. However, it could be a slow trailer where we won't get to see the system until 2 minutes in and that's it. Literally a first look and nothing more. Or they could focus on games and even include a sizzle reel that shows a couple of new games, BOTW and RDR2 maybe. Like I said, it can go either way.

Pretty much. Though to be fair 3 mins is actually quite a long time to just show the hardware. That Project Scorpio trailer if you watch it they spend a lot of time going through what different people think about it. Going into a bit of detail about the specs. Talking about how high quality the pixels are. And that's 3mins. On the other extreme the Wii trailer from E3 2006? It's 5mins long and has a lot of games in it. It's basically just them spending 30-40 seconds on each game. And IMO it's the best presented out of the lot of them.
More likely we'll see something in the middle. IMO. But really, it could be anything.

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
This site needs a countdown timer. There's finally something to write about, instead of reviewing the latest retropixel mashup eshop game with a 9 just because there's not much else left to write lol.
So the 3 minutes will show the system and its final name (obviously) but according to the leakers we will also see BoTW on it as well as a glimpse of the new Mario game, which was apparently why the reveal date was pushed back behind the September date that Eurogamer were confident in leaking months ago, it wasn't ready to show off then but is now apparently. There will also be 3 devs who will confirm games for the system, and The Binding of Issac team have a devs kit already. The different streams may indicate that the pricing will be discussed during it, though no one is certain on that, though people are expecting the massive explosion of information to be either by the end of the week or the month at the very latest. This will include the price as well as the specifications. There's also going to be a new IP from Nintendo that may or may not be shown that is apparently very weird and is aiming to be the next Splatoon, A.K.A a weird take on a game genre Nintendo haven't done before. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is an NX exclusive, will probably be discussed.
As far as all but certainties go, it is ALMOST WITHOUT QUESTION a hybrid, which Nintendo will be showcasing as a console which you can take with you on-the-go, and the Eurogamer specs leak is incredibly likely to be true. And the March date is set in stone, no delay at all. Not that there was ever any real concern about that last point, ever since Nintendo confirmed that would be the month ages ago and they have not delayed a system's launch month since the N64 and we've heard nothing but good news from the leakers as far as production of the system itself was concerned, they have been apparently ahead of schedule in terms of production for a while now, and only the true extreme pessimists were hoping for a delay, the one thing the people ITK were sure of was the launch month. That is all well and good then. Except if you were hoping for a delay for some weird reason that of course that is bad news. Boo-hoo I guess.
That's your NX announcement vid in all probability. Do not expect anything significantly different, absolutely at this stage do not expect anything that will compete in the 'red ocean' with the PS4/Xbox One, we've know for months if not years if not even over a decade since the commercial failure of the GameCube that Nintendo is not going down that route. If you want 'AAA' games with dem dere high fidelity mature stuff there are no less than three companies that have more than viable platforms for you to do so. Don't expect Nintendo's version of a PS4. Pleeeeeeeease at this point everyone can see it's not happening.
Apart from that there is obviously lots there to get excited about, and still of course a lot more that Nintendo have kept secret. Just keep your excitement/disappointment reasonable OK? No name calling. It's a video game system. It's not worth it, as much as you may have some inanimate love/hatred towards so-called 'modern Nintendo' just be mature.
@MarcelRguez Indeed, I have nothing against the 2D Mario games, or NSMB for that matter, but revealing another NSMB wouldn't be their best move at the moment. If there's a Mario game at launch, I hope it's a 3D game, or looks completely different from the NSMB games.
@NintyFan since the western game industry is geared more towards home systems and handhelds are unquestionably dead and for kids, Nintendo's western branches will be looking to push the 'it's a game system where you can play games on the go as well' as opposed to what will probably be the reality of the situation (certainly in Japan) whereby it's a beefy handheld which can also function as a home system and can be setup with a TV. It's why Zelda BoTW will be shown, as that will be the hook for a lot of people- not only playing that game as per the norm on a TV like you'd be able to do with the Wii U version or the dream heavenly PS4 God tier version-but Nintendo will also make a big deal out of how you can take it with you and continue playing if you're out-and-about.
Of course your mileage as to how enticing that is to you personally and whether you think Nintendo will be successful at selling this system like that is up to you but that's how it looks like it'll go.
