The person who originally leaked World and MH Rise said Sony had worked out a deal for exclusivity, so I do think they paid for MH World in Japan. Especially because it didn’t release on PC in Japan either (that I’m aware of).The reason I think it was only in Japan is because it would’ve been too expensive to pay for exclusivity everywhere, given how much more popular Xbox and PC are outside of Japan (they would have had to compensate for millions of units sold, that would be like a $100 million deal, whereas Japan alone could be bought for just a few million). It just doesn’t make sense otherwise, given other less popular games still release on Xbox in Japan, and certainly PC. Especially since there was already an Xbox and PC version that released day and date in every single other country/region on earth except Japan. And MH World was a megaton release, unlike a niche JRPG spinoff like Persona 4 Arena.

But I don’t think MH Rise existing has anything to do with that. It might, but I doubt it. I think they just can’t get World running on Switch and therefore made a separate game. We see Rise pushing the limits of what Switch can handle. In hindsight, I don’t think MH World on Switch would have been possible without serious compromise. Heck, they couldn’t even get RE7 on Switch with satisfactory results, and MH World is far more demanding than RE7. And given MH Rise, I think that was the right choice. I’d rather have a game built for the system than a seriously downgraded port of World, even if it’s a magnificent game. World is just one of those games best played on PC or a console capable of doing it justice.

@JaxonH I'm not sure the two things are connected at all. It seems like both teams picked the hardware they're most used to (console and handheld), and developed for that. So long as Capcom maintains dedicated portable and console MH teams, I don't think we'll stop seeing games that either come to everything but Ninyendo, or only to Nintendo.

And that's not a bad thing. I wish we got more games that were designed around the Switch's unique hardware. There only other third party title like that I can think of is Starlink, which feels like the Switch was the target system and the others were just ports.

@link3710
No, I totally agree. Basically what I was trying to say. I don’t think MH Rise has anything to do with World, aside from the fact the hardware is portable and thus needs its own game since the other can’t run properly.

And that’s the best possible outcome we could hope for. Not only does it mean getting two different games instead of one, it also means getting the best of both worlds. A huge, sprawling, crazy awesome graphics entry for PC with full voice chat and the works, but also a high budget, more gameplay focused entry with all the same QoL features but designed for hybrid portable play, local wireless hunting parties, etc.

What more could a Hunter ask for!

There is now a demo for the Switch Kingdom Hearts game everyone wanted on the eShop right now. The title screen has a pretty sweet remix of Dearly Beloved from KHIII

@TheFrenchiestFry Well if it's a remix, how is it from III? Im genuinely confused considering every game has its own version of Dearly Beloved, even stuff like Coded.

link3710

TheFrenchiestFry

@link3710 It's like in the same general harmony as III's version but significantly more upbeat and jazzy

I might check it out. Never got into Kingdom Hearts or Theatrhythm Final Fantasy beyond the occasional passing interest, but if the Switch version is quality, suppose there’s no reason not to give it a whirl.

Tbh the only rhythm game I’ve ever truly loved was Persona 4 Dancing. And only on Vita (just wasn’t playable on the TV where the notes escape your peripheral vision, but on a handheld it’s fantastic).

Well, I tried out the demo, and between the one-button mode, performance mode (which adds extra, optional targets one other buttons), and normal mode, each playable on one of three difficulties, I don't think there's anyone who's going to not be able to find something suited for them. I'll give them credit for that. Plus, the options menu is pretty loaded with things, including allowing for two different variants of a left-handed mode (layout of the buttons on the left joy-con copied or mirrored) and being able to adjust for input lag.

Of course, everyone's going to spend the next week complaining about how horrible it is that this game exists, but I'm enjoying the demo at least.

Okay, how have I never heard of this game? This looks incredibly well done. Anyone know anything?

Hadn't heard of it either, but you're right, it looks good.

Yeah, that one seemed to come out of nowhere .... Popped up on Steam during the August Festival & next thing you know it's Switching, too! Got it on my wishlist on the former

It's a super minor thing, but I still really want the ability to see a list of all my Switch games with their playtime like we had on 3DS. The Switch has that info, but we can still only see the certain recently played and we still have to swap games out to check.

Like, it's such a minor thing. So I am shocked it's still not there.

The PS5 UI and how it displays playtime is how Switch should've done it for its UI honestly. It's extremely precise

Atelier Ryza 2 Collector Edition is up for preorder on NISA Online Store.

And of course, Disgaea 6 Collector Edition, YS IX Monstrum Nox Collector Edition and Trails of Cold Steel 4 Collector Edition is also available on NISA Online Store. There's others too like Poison Control and Harvest Moon, but those 4 are the bangers.

@JaxonH the point i want to highlight/show is that Capcom restrict the release of Monster Hunter Rise only on Switch, it gonna have a serious impact in the sales and reception of the game, if Capcom could also have release Monster Hunter Rise at least on PC, we coundt have the possibility of the game be the worst selling game of the franchise and beside compare PS4 install base that is 120 milions consoles compared to Switch install base that is only 62 milions consoles, don't you think it would be more wise to release this game in a console that have the best selling install base of this generation?

@TheFrenchiestFry i wished that Square Enix could at least give us a port of Kingdom Hearts 3 or make a mainline Kingdom Hearts game like Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance for Switch, not a spin-off like that, at least Capcom is giving us a mainline Monster Hunter game(unless is released later on PS4/PS5, Xbox One e Xbox Series X/S).

Of course itll impact sales. Any time you release on less systems it impacts sales. NOT releasing MH World on Switch impacted sales. Did they care? Not in the slightest. NOT releasing MH Generations Ultimate on PC also impacted sales. Did they care? No sir.

MH Rise will likely sell 7 million copies on a single platform. Capcom isnt gonna care about anything else.

Also, MH Rise wont be the worst selling game in the franchise. What are you smoking? This game is gonna break records, and I 100% guarantee itll be the BEST selling game in the franchise under World (but no MH game will ever beat World, it was an outlier), and on a per-platform basis, will likely be the best selling MH game of all time on a single platform.

There is ZERO chance this game becomes the "worst selling game in the franchise". Zero chance.

@Giancarlothomaz I don't really like the term spinoff when referring to the KH side games because they all lead directly into various aspects of the main entries. Like Melody of Memory seems to be taking place after the ReMIND DLC for KH3 for example and there's also stuff like 358/2 Days which establishes Roxas, and Chain of Memories which is basically required for understanding where Sora ends up in KHII

Story so Far would be nice but considering Xbox got the individual collections and the games in general haven't even come to Steam yet, Switch is a pipe dream at this point.

Also Monster Hunter will literally do anything but sell badly on Switch if the 3DS and PSP entries were any indication. Those games sell systems

The Switch should remain Japan's best selling console for several years.

The PS5 will struggle to match the PS4's lifetime sales because of the overall size of the console itself; the Japanese loathe technology that hogs their limited living space. PS5 will lose more Japanese customers as Sony makes their censorship policies more stern. Sony is swapping the cross/circle cancel/agree buttons to make them more uniform across all regions; that'll agitate their loyal Japanese fanbase. And MS continues to bring more Japanese games to XSX with less censorship.

Sony has never been less of a Japanese company than right now.

Isn't Sony's base of operations now in California? Moved there back in 2016 or whatever.

@Magician The PS5 only looks slightly bigger than the PS4 Pro. It's not that much of a step up size wize. I think the thickness of the console just gives people the illusion it's way bigger than it actually is, and the size is obviously warranted because of the specs it's running

The Switch gets away with being small because it's meant to purposely be a portable system and all the dock does is output the image to the TV. The Switch has its foot way deeper in handheld gaming based on the ratio of people who actually use it on the TV compared to on the go. I also really don't see how the swapping of buttons is that big of a deal, and the game lineup screamed ANYTHING but trying too hard to appeal to Westerners to me personally. Microsoft is way more Western centric and only just started getting some sizable Japanese content.
