@JaxonH Depends if Nintendo promotes is as their one bi-annual exclusive so that every Switch owner feels obligated to "join the crowd" which seems to be their current strategy to saturate sales. I could see it doing 4M (long tail sales) easily that way.
I started in on TCS 3, but then switched back to DQ, and then switched back to Oninaki, and then to Okami, then to Dragon's Dogma, then to Mystery Dungeon, then to FE3H which I never even got to the time jump on last year.
Do I win a cookie or something for playing all y our reminders all at once?
SMT V has some serious potential. I've never had any friends who played the series before, but thanks to Persona 5 catching on with my friends, literally every person I know with a Switch has SMT V on their wishlist.
If it gets proper advertising from Nintendo and is a quality game... I really can't even estimate where it's sales will be. I certainly expect it to break a million copies at least. But above that? I genuinely can't tell where it'll land, whether it's the 1-2 mil bracket, the 2-4 mil one, or the pie in the sky 4-6 mil level. I don't think it could go any higher than that, but who knows?
@Octane at this point either get them on 3DS or buy them in Japanes on the EShop. I’m completely uncertain about it and it makes me a little angry. I feel the same about DQ Heroes
@Grumblevolcano I'm expecting at least Persona 3 FES and Persona 5 Royal on PC, while Switch and PS4 get more SMT content like other PS2 era remasters outside Nocturne

@link3710 I definitely don't expect 4-6 million or even 3-4 million. Again I think SMT is unfortunately not going to even reach or top Persona numbers due to the fact that series just has more general recognition and isn't nearly as niche by comparison

@Octane I am assuming the sales from the 3DS games did poorly in the West and so they decided not to bother with the Switch game. Though I thought it was supposed to come West, but maybe that was halted?

@TheFrenchiestFry I don't expect it either. But if huge numbers of Persona players are really interested, and the series really does get a huge marketing push to make up for development struggles for Nintendo's first party games, and it's a really well done title, it has the potential to do 3+ Million.
I'm expecting between 1-2 million, and would not be surprised by somewhere over 2 mil. But unlike usual, I can't discount 3+ mil lifetime from being a possibility that might happen.
Even Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 haven’t hit 2 mil yet. I’m hoping they will by end of life, but if they do that’s going to be their grand achievement.
I think that provides a pretty good baseline for expectations of SMTV, especially since it’s more niche and doesn’t have the advantage of being a first party property like Xenoblade. Even Fire Emblem is a 3 million seller (was at 2.89 in March so, I figure 3 is where it will settle). That’s not quite as much as I was expecting. I hoped Xenoblade 1 and 2 would hit 3 mil and FE would do 4-5 mil. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.
So ya, I think 1 mil is going to be biting off plenty for SMT.

I was wondering why Yokai Watch hasn't been localised in English for Switch yet. Does anyone know? I've always wanted to try one of those games.
I can't speak for the Switch port of the first game - I think that's Japan only at the time of writing - but I do think Yo-kai Watch 4 was announced for the West last year. No actual date that I know of. Besides, the games seem to take a bit to migrate out of Japan.
I just wrapped up one of the versions of Yo-kai Watch 2 (Fleshy Souls) this past week. I'd love a shot at the third game, but as that had an extremely limited print run, I'm stuck with either scalped copies or going the digital-only route.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
@JaxonH Fire Emblem was in a very busy release schedule, most games released in June - September 2019 were bound to suffer from the busy schedule. I'd imagine Fire Emblem would've probably done better if it was released at a less busy time.
Pikmin 3 has a really good chance to do well this holiday.given not much is going on.

Lol Three Houses is the best selling in the whole series, and it already counts as disappointing?
I think people are coming up with unrealistic expectations for things. Just because Nintendo has a handful of first party franchises that seem to have no upper limit on their sales, doesn't mean it's going to apply to everything.
When you consider the fact that Fire Emblem was going to be abandoned as a series entirely if Awakening didn't sell 500,000 copies, it's incredible how much they've transformed it in a decade.
@Dezzy I think there's a difference between calling Three Houses a failure and saying it could have done even better in a less crowded release schedule.
I suppose there was a fair bit of marketing for Persona 5, but I think the success of that game was mostly due to rave reviews and word-of-mouth.
A lot of people make the excuse that certain JRPGs don’t do well because they are too “Japanese” or “strange” for Western audiences. But P5’s strangeness was actually a contributor to its success I think. You can say the style of the game appeals to more Western palates, but the game reminded me more of the Pop Art style of Seijun Suzuki or Cowboy Bebop than any thing else.
So it’s hard to tell how SMT 5 will fare. It seems like a lot of Nintendo Switch commentators don’t give a crap about it, but they also weren’t really that into Persona either.
@Tyranexx Yeah, hopefully. I did see they changed the battle system. So I'm a bit worried about that. I remember the first one being turn-based (which I'd prefer), and the trailers for the YW4 only have real time battles.
@Slowdive Yes, I guess that's kinda true. There's the LEGO Mario after all, but it doesn't really feel like a coherent celebration. Year of Luigi on the Wii U/3DS was celebrated more than this. I remember that stupid logo popping up everywhere, during every Direct and merchandise announcement. It's more the lack of mentioning the anniversary during these announcements that make it all feel disconnected. Like Paper Mario; the anniversary was never mentioned during the 1-month marketing period between reveal and launch.
