@NEStalgia I think it's just Nintendo doesn't have enough content to create a good quality Direct at the moment or Fighter 7 isn't ready to be announced yet. Can't have a Direct without Smash
@Grumblevolcano Either way it confirms Directs are.......Indirect. It's just some outside prepackaged presentation bundle. I miss in-house directs, quirk and all. These miss the whole point, and they've felt like they were missing the point for a long time. The last Direct that felt "Nintendo" is roughly the last time we saw Trinen narrate one. I love Directs for content, but I've been disappointed with the presentations themselves for most of the Switch era, and now I see why. Maybe Nintendo wants to go a more unique route now that it's not "their" format. I would not say no to that.
I mean...Fighter 6 is a fighter from their other fighter they abandoned to focus more on this fighter.....what's Fighter 7, Gold Mario Amiibo?
But yeah, I kind of associate Direct=Smash at this point which is....unnerving to say the least. Smash was something fun for a few weeks....it got old fast. I do like the series, but I still don't get this obsession with it.
I'm not sure, though, if the options are that Nintendo has no content. Or wants to ride out Switch on the evergreens and build the vault for the next console in advance, or is just waiting for "next gen" since they need something to fight with, and it's going to have to be a boatload of amazing games since it's not going to be hardware.
@NEStalgia They didn't abandon ARMS. I don't get why people on this forum have that narrative. It ran for a decent amount of time, and I'm pretty sure only Mortal Kombat was a fighting game that outsold ARMS on it's initial entry. They've continued to gently promote it ever since as well, while other launch year titles (Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids, 1-2 Switch etc) have basically vanished from their advertising lately.
Yeah, it didn't light the world on fire, but it sold 2.1 million copies. It did just fine, and it totally makes sense to have a Smash rep, considering it's outsold, for example, every Xenoblade Chronicles game. While no one is claiming XC2 was a flop, or XC:DE.
EDIT: To be clear, my point is there is ground between unprecedented success and abject failure. ARMS was a mild success, like Astral Chain or Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in that it hit about the top amount of what could reasonably be expected in sales. We'll see how the IP grows (or not) in the future.
At the same time, if it’s designed ground up for Switch, I could see it maybe being real. Assuming some of that is cutscenes.
But the more likely explanation is, it’s being built on PC and will release there too. But then, Idk why it wouldn’t be announced as such. It was specifically announced for Switch. To show any other footage would be... odd.
Maybe it really is Switch footage and we’re finally seeing what’s possible when a talented studio builds a more AAA game ground up. Even then it feels like a stretch. But either way, the game is coming and it looks great.

Dr Goomba Tower is piling on top of the competition!
(Seriously I’d love that)
In regards to Directs - I think other companies cloning the format very closely is a form of flattery - nothing more. I don’t think it’s a case of there being one outside marketing company that just makes them.
It’s more likely that a company has just ripped it off because of its familiarity (sometimes such companies copy too much without understanding exactly why every component of the original design is actually there).
I think the lack of an actual direct is because Nintendo has a gap in their development pipeline and nothing to anchor a direct. They just don’t have the numbers in their studios to make big games regularly enough and the Metroid delay has left a big hole this year.
Of course with the success of Switch being assured now I wouldn’t be surprised if pacing themselves a little by prepping games for “Switch 2” (or “Switch U“ - this is Nintendo after all...) is also a part of it.
Personally I’m aching for a Splatoon like swing on a new franchise and a genre that Nintendo hasn’t done (or making a completely new one).
I want a Splatoon Tactics so badly. The possibilities are endless. Out of ink, spend a turn to recharge. Special move for snipers splats a long burst of ink to swim through to travel farther than normal in a straight line or go up walls to a higher level. Oh my gosh. Only Nintendo wouldn't have capitalized on this yet.

Nintendo doesn't have another Iwata, so the direction and the presentation is inevitably different now.
Personally I'm sticking with what I said in the 'Next Nintendo Direct' thread back in early March: that Covid-19 has messed up Nintendo's internal operations, and its external market (i.e. the global economy), enough to create too much uncertainty about when projects will be completed and when their optimum release windows will be, so they can't throw a 30 minute Direct together because they don't want to commit to certain games at certain times.
@JaxonH It's important to remember that Gears Tactics wouldn't have existed had Game Pass not been around. It was revealed that Game Pass allows Xbox Game Studios to take more risks with games given the requirement for success is no longer "sell x number of copies" and that's how The Coalition were allowed to make Gears Tactics.
@NintendoByNature It's fine, to me it's not satisfying or even fun like Splatoon or any other multiplayer game. Customization is great though, I love me customization. I haven't had any servers problems, But, that's me. It might be a different story with you.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
So I went to grab Borderlands from the eshop today and derped. In addition to the triple pack with all 3 games, buying them individually, they also have a double pack of BL2 and the Pre-sequel. BUT on the picture they have "BORDERLANDS" in big bold text, flanked by the two games in the double pack.
Now it's my fault for not actually reading - I was lazy. Still... Anyway, I guess I can't bash on those people who bought the wrong Pokemon DLC anymore.
At least I was able to still grab BL1 on it's own, just cost an extra few dollars, as opposed to buying them all together. :/

@NintendoByNature I heard the physical only has like 1 game on the card. That's why I just bought them digitally. I really dislike these cases where we buy a game card that only has part of what's on the label. Buying Doom 2016 was physically was a mistake.
