@diwdiws
So of the three AAA games already out that you can think of, two are remakes. I don't know about you, but to me that's kind of pathetic when you consider AAA is potentially distributing to three consoles and PC. There should be waaaaaaay more games out there that aren't ridden with DLC.
And you're cray cray if you don't think Total War is gonna have mounds and mounds of DLC and microtransactions.
We probably disagree on what "game as service" entails. If you want to be technical, then you can only count games that their publishers deem as "services," but I'm talking more broadly about any game that has DLC and/or microtransactions that surpass the original cost of the base game. My original statement was woe that the days of simply releasing a complete game are pretty much behind us.
Oh hey, one of the best RPG I played last few years is getting physical release on switch! (o_o
Definitely will tell people to please, please don't sleep on this thing! It has a really nice story + character, then add the fact it has great combat + great puzzles as well, and there's the fact there's a lot of side quests to do Very meaty game for sure
@diwdiws Halo Infinite will almost certainly be Games as a Service, both Master Chief Collection's "relaunch" in line with releasing for PC and Halo 5 are such. I'd guess Infinite's monetization will be a paid version of Master Chief Collection's battle pass system. Sure it's unusual for a season to go on for 6 months and ongoing but I'd guess Season 2 will start when Halo 3 comes to PC and then seasons become a more normal length.
Speaking of all things retro, “F-117A Stealth Fighter” has just appeared on the eShop as coming soon.
I remember this game years ago by Microprose, used to always get this muddled up with F19 Stealth Fighter.
The funny thing is, there is no reference to it being a re release of an old game in the games notes. It’s boasts excellent graphics, but it actually looks worse than I remember it.
I guess most will think the developer is taking the mick.
@Grumblevolcano
Geez, I didn't even know MCC had a battle pass.
I am still looking forward to Last of Us 2, but part of me is afraid there's going to be a season pass (j/k...right?)
...I'm gonna go play more Link to the Past. I'm on the first dungeon in the Dark World. I don't think I have to pay per dungeon until I get to the third one.
@rallydefault The system was added in December 2019 along with the addition of Halo Reach to the collection, Season 1 unlocks are all the stuff you could unlock with credits in the original Halo Reach. Unlike other battle passes you don't buy with real money and you can still progress towards a season's content after the season ends but I'd guess if Infinite doesn't do well enough Microsoft's investors will probably force changes to MCC.
I'm on the side that if you buy a game, spending even more money on it isn't a service and any company that says it is a service is lying to you. The only valid Games as Service are if they have a subscription service or provide free updates. Anything else just doesn't even make sense with that wording.
Though the idea of a "complete game" is...I mean, that's not how I would consider that. Reality is, most games have cut content, nowadays its just way easier to be able to add it in later. By that logic, Ocarina of Time was never a complete game since they've said dungeons were cut from it. That would be stupid. By that logic, I wish MORE big budget games were incomplete if they cut out the boring, redundant content.
A game feeling incomplete to me is more it not being worth the money and/or not feeling like any sort of complete experience on its own. Like that brief period of time when certain games would sell basically the ending of their game as DLC. And there are other valid problems. But there are plenty of games where a game came out, I bought it, and it still felt complete despite getting DLC. Hyrule Warriors is a perfect example. Not once did that feel like anything less than a full experience without having to pay an extra penny, and in fact it was more of a full experience than a lot of games (especially in terms of time spent on it).
@kkslider5552000
Yea, I mean, literally everything is "incomplete"... you're being super pedantic. Every movie, every book, every everything had to cut something or would have added something after the fact. It's just the easiest word to describe what I mean.
I've interpreted "Games as a Service" for awhile now as essentially long term support with a seasonal structure where most of the time failing to complete [insert tasks] by [insert time outside the game] means you'll never see [insert reward]. Usually launch content is on the smaller side and there's generally some kind of microtransactions like loot boxes or battle passes.
I wouldn't say Smash Ultimate is Games as a Service because most spirit events are only old spirits so it doesn't matter if you don't play Smash Ultimate for months, you can still get all the rewards.
The one nitpick I have is, the bowling seems to be sped up. Like, the time it take from release to hitting the pins is super fast compared to say, Wii Sports. It feels like they intentionally sped it up to make the gameplay faster with more action and less watching the ball roll down the lane. But I think I would have preferred it take a little more time to travel down the lane. I also wish it used the old “hold Trigger button and let go to release” control scheme. But... it’s fine. The game still looks great and lots of fun. As just 1 of 51 total games I can overlook small issues like that.
Darts is apparently a lot better than expected, too. I saw/read three different videos/previews where people said they were shocked at how realistic, accurate and fun the darts were, using motion controls, holding the joycon sideways pinching it like a dart to throw. That really excites me.
And the toy baseball looks cool. Ever since I saw Konami’s Jikkyou Pro Baseball game, I desperately fell in love. I’ve been dying to see them localize that series. I’ve even contemplated importing the Japanese version and playing in Japanese. It just looks so good! But I know they won’t. We have The Show coming, eventually. But that’s not going to happen anytime soon and it is more of a SIM anyways. And Super Mega Baseball 3... Idk. I hate the caricature designs and stiff animations. I just can’t bring myself to buy that game. RBI Baseball looks so close to being a buy, but I’m waiting for them to improve it just a little bit more first. So I guess until The Show comes, Toy Baseball it is.
I also wish Clubhouse included Spades, Hearts, Clubs, Euchre and Sheepshead. I love all of those card games dearly. I could play Spades for months on end. I literally did, back in my late teens. I was so hard-core into those games.
But, the selection is still vast and the polish, the visuals, the level of quality, the sound effects, even hearing rumble works when connect 4 pieces fall down the tray slot, or that you can feel rumble when the bowling ball rolls down the lane... it just hypes me up.
@J-Plap
Yes, it will. Works same as it always has- people download the free limited version on their system, and they can play locally with you.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

eh probably. I realized halfway through that I wasn't sure if I was directly addressing your point or not, but that it was still a good point to make regardless of if it was in response to anything.
I'll be honest: the excitement for Clubhouse Games completely baffles me. Most of the games seem like super basic pieces of software that I was playing for free online over a decade ago. I wouldn't mind seeing more digital versions of elaborate, themed board/card games, though. Like Star Realms, Tanto Cuore, Arkham Horror, Last Night on Earth, etc.
I'm actually super surprised we haven't seen more stuff like that.
@kkslider5552000
I mean...I guess? It's a common sense point that is super nit-picky. But "good"? Sure, man. Sure.
@Grumblevolcano
That's a very detailed definition, and as you point out, would exclude games like Smash. Personally, I would consider Smash a "service" game because its DLC/microtransactions outprice the actual MSRP of the original game. But that's just me.
It's exciting that by the end of the year, my Wii U library not on Switch in some form might be in single digits. Currently these are left:
Pikmin 3
Super Mario 3D World
Wind Waker HD
Sonic Lost World
NES Remix 1+2
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Yoshi's Woolly World
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Twilight Princess HD
Star Fox Zero + Guard
Paper Mario Color Splash
I'm really enjoying Wonderful 101 so far, the strategy I've used for other Platinum titles of starting on an easier difficulty to properly understand the mechanics is once again proving to be useful.
@Grumblevolcano Honestly at this point? I'm shocked NES Remix Pack and Pushmo World come over with all the bigger titles. Even if they don't want to rereleased NES Remix (which I sorta get), Pushmo World would be a nice filler.
