@BruceCM I highly doubt that actually. Square Enix has been releasing a Final Fantasy game every two months or so since the whole first announcement, which is about as fast as they can without cannibalizing sales. I would be highly surprised if we don't see them announce another round of past game releases assuming (almost assuredly) that the current releases are selling up to par. That would likely, like this round, be focused on a bunch of individual main series game releases + a few spinoffs like After Years, Type-0, some more Chocobo games, and (big maybe on the rest) Revenant Wings, Dirge of Cerebus/Crisis Core, Mystic Quest or any Tactics games.
So I ended up caving in and buying Link's Awakening. Was planning on waiting until after I finished Astral Chain, but the pull of nostalgia was too strong. I'll get back to Astral Chain once I finish Link's Awakening.
What a gorgeous remake of the game, and it manages to retain the charm of the original. Also, Walmart is definitely the way to go for new releases here in the US if you're buying physical.
@IceClimbers I'm buying every new switch game at Wal-Mart from here on out. Links awakening was the outlier since i wanted the dreamers edition which i got from Amazon.
@link3710 Yeah I could see more reveals in the next general Direct, Crystal Chronicles is the last game of the original batch announced last September and that comes out in January. You've also got the release of Dragon Quest 1-3 this week, Square Enix seems to be going all in on the multiplatform release of their classic games.
After my GCU expires in March, WalMart is where it’s gonna be at.
Got my imported EU Zelda Dreamer Edition today. Steelcase is rad. One day I’ll show off my Switch steelcase Collection. But I’d rather wait until the end of the generation to see how large the collection ends up being.
Also, can I give a shoutout to AI Somnium Files? This game is really, really good. I’m not usually into visual novels. But I heard a lot of good things as to the pedigree of the devs (mostly from Ralizah), so I went all in with the collector edition. And I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised with the quality of the game. It seems like a little higher budget than your average visual novel. They have 3D models with animations, things I’m not used to seeing in other games of the genre.
I almost feel bad but there are so many games coming out, so many great games coming out. And some are simply going to be collateral damage of the packed lineup. Bulletstorm and AI Somnium Files are for sure two of the most overlooked games. And they’re both really great games, great Switch ports, with high resolution and all that (I love games that are full 720p in handheld).
I mean, Sniper Elite III and Darksiders II are also sure to get overlooked, but at least those games have some brand recognition within the fanbase. Even Ori and the Blind Forest seems to be getting overlooked. Practically no one has released videos showcasing the games demo on YT, which seems absolutely nuts to me given the hype Cuphead saw. And this is a far better game than Cuphead. Ni No Kuni is a masterpiece through and through, and I’m glad to see it still around #50 on Amazon while the PS4 version is in the 200-300 range. A clear message to Bandai Namco.
And at least Dragon Quest XI S is doing really well. The game is up to like, #5 on Amazon’s best sellers list. And has been in the top 20-30 for over a month now, and top 50 for 2 months before that. Which is insane if you think about it. This game is tracking on par with games like Fire Emblem and Mario Maker 2. I foresee 2 million sales in the west alone by year’s end. If Japan can hit even 250k (it’s not gonna hit 1m like the 3DS/PS4 version’s did, but that’s fine, even MH World Ultimate... Iceborn, sorry, only sold 250k in Japan), that’ll be enough to ensure 2 mil lifetime, possibly even 3m if it outperforms in Japan. And that will be a message not only to Square Enix that they’re missing out on some serious profit with every big RPG they fail to release on Switch and that ya, they need to find a way to make Final Fantasy VII Remake work when timed exclusivity is up and Kingdom Hearts needs to be ASAP priority, it’s also a clear message to companies like Atlus that ya, Dragon Quest is selling 2-3 mil copies on a single system even after releasing on 2 other systems previously thanks to Smash, and that’s right, Persona 5 would do the same. Could be smart and go sell an easy 2-3 mil additional copies like DQXIS and transform the franchise from a decent JRPG success to a mainstream prodigy, or, maintain the status quo and just re-release the same, slightly expanded game on the same exact system everyone already played it on and milk out whatever fans you can convince to spend another $60 for DLC to play the same game on the same system all over again. Hmmm.
I hope DQXIS breaks all kinds of records in the west. I want that message resounding so loudly they’ll be wearing earmuffs in response to it.
Mhm, and don't forget DQM 1+2 coming out in Japan at least. There's the SaGa games as well, and Star Ocean, the mana games, TWEWY... by my count they've released 30 games on the Switch (counting stuff like Mana Collection as one title) in the past 30 months with 5 more announced for the future. That means they've kept up a rate of one per month on average. If they keep that up, the chances of FF1-6 showing up in some form or another is nearly a guarantee.
I hope they do bring all those to Switch, @link3710 .... Wouldn't they have started with I, if they were bringing that, though?
I certainly haven't forgotten Star Ocean 1st Departure R on December 5! Which needs 2nd Evolution to follow
@JaxonH You've been listing the games you're going to get in the future quite often and I always noticed you didn't have AI there. Glad to hear you got it and you're enjoying it. I love the Zero Escape trilogy so AI was a must buy. 8 hours in currently.
Check out my Gaming Nonograms thread here on Nintendo Life if you are into Picross or other similar games.
@Late
Ya it wasn't one I was really excited for. But I figured I'd give it a go. The puzzles are kinda cool. Shoot the lock or stick the gun in the keyhole... stick the gun in the keyhole, because that's far more logical in a dream.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Yesterday, that changed. Every other person got a Switch Lite. Now we're a five Switch household. Six once my Pokemon Lite releases.
If this is AT ALL indicative of what other families will be doing, I think the Lite will do just fine for Nintendo.
@JaxonH Also glad you're giving AI a shot. It'll probably be criminally underlooked, what with all the big releases coming out around it. I'm excited to get my copy soon, personally. I'm not expecting to like it as much as VLR, but Uchikoshi is a creative writer. Enjoyed Ever17. Enjoyed the ZE trilogy. Expect to enjoy this as well.
Now if we could just get Danganronpa on the Switch...
Do you guys think AI Somnium Files is worth $60? A friend of mine got it as well and he said while he likes it, he felt it's not $60 worth.
Asking if a game is worth whatever the publisher is asking for is really subjective. Me personally? I believe Kotaro Uchikoshi is a talented person. I picked up the LE at $90 without hesitation. Considering that the Zero Escape series is beloved by its fans, chances are good AI: The Somnium Files will be quickly be considered a hidden gem of a game.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,560 games (as of April 14th, 2026)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
@Ralizah same with me, we went from 1 at launch to 2, now 4 (1 "new" switch and 3 lites). Will be getting the Pokémon one as well but only to resell but I agree the Lite definitely has its place.
@BruceCM That's not likely an issue? Didn't they release them in like XV:PE - IX - VII - XII - X/X-2 - VIII as an order so far? I know it certainly wasn't even close to numbered order. They kicked off with XV since it's the newest, and VII was early on to capitalize on Cloud in Smash hype as well, while I (1) wouldn't have any reason to be rushed out. And I (1) almost certainly won't be released as a standalone game honestly, either we'll get the Origins version, or Dawn of Souls, either way both I and II will be included in a single title.
Also, with people hyped back on FF again now that we've gotten all the major titles Nintendo's missed in the past (that people want anyways), the sales of rereleases of the original games will likely be higher.
Assuming I&II are sold together, @DenDen .... We're only talking about 7 FF main games & 3 tactics spin-offs! Perhaps they can do Crisis Core & Dirge of Cerberus, too?
