Tbh the term "role-playing game" needs a redefinition for today's world. It's like, you can't be an RPG because you don't have levels in stats or whatever. You don't have experience points, so you're not an RPG. But you're still... role-playing as a major character in the story, so... what does that even mean?
We've strayed too far from the original definition of table-top games at this point where "RPG" means little.
Yeah, I got sucked in to a Twitter debate about this just yesterday!
If you look at the Wikipedia definition for video game 'RPG's', Zelda games tick every single box...but are widely considered to be 'Action Adventure' (or perhaps ARPG's) instead.
The waters are very muddied these days - with many titles, it's difficult to fit them in to neat little boxes because they share so many common elements with one another...if someone uses the term 'RPG', I know roughly what style of game they're talking about (even if it's a title that I'd categorise differently) - and further information about the combat system can help to narrow that down further - that's usually good enough for me
@DarthNocturnal The argument isn't "need for skill = not an RPG."
It's more about the presence of a system that increases a character's stats regardless of what they have equipped. Something like Bloodborne might emphasize skill and reflexes with its very action-oriented combat system, but you're still passively increasing the stats of your character by leveling up.
This obviously isn't a hard and fast line. Plenty of non-RPG's feature permanent enhancement of certain limited character stats, like health or stamina. But it seems to be the one thing that generally separates RPG's from non-RPG's and, in that respect, Monster Hunter fails worse than something like Super Metroid. Not to mention that every "RPG-like" thing MH does can also be found in other non-RPGs.
A couple of interesting games have popped up on the Japanese eShop.
One appears to be a WWII based tank game that seems to be download only, as it's only ¥1,100.
The other is a cartoony baseball game that has the licensing of all the Japanese baseball leagues (both men's and women's), as well as some sort of extra baseball themed mini games/side modes such as what appears to be an RPG mode. It's developed by Namco Bandai and features motion controls.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@NEStalgia Story mode usually doesn't get you scrub cred. Ragequitting is way more annoying.

My favorite pizza is probably from a pizza chain called "Anthony's Pizza and Pasta" that seems to operate exclusively in Colorado.
If we're talking mult-national chains, though, I've yet to find anything that beats the meat lover's stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut. The thing is so loaded down with cheese and various kinds of meats that it can barely maintain its structural integrity when you pick up a piece.
@Alikan The tomato sauce usually has other stuff mixed in with it to not make it taste much like a tomato product, though.
@EvilLucario Tried it. Hated it. Anytime I eat a pizza with pineapple on it, I end up with a little pile of pineapple bits on the plate that I've picked out of the pizza.
Ice Cream is cool. Hamburger is cool. But I don't want ice cream on my hamburger, ya know?
