I mean, people can scream port all they want but if the game is labelled as SSB5 by Nintendo officially it doesn't really matter how many assets they re-use. It'll still be the next instalment, and not a port.
I don't really understand why people think they'd have to make a new engine and change things up substantially for it to be considered sequel (same argument goes for Splatoon 2 IMO).
Tbh, I think most Nintendo fans are spoiled by Nintendo with their sequels. If you look at most other publishers, they push out sequels on a yearly basis, using the same engines and a ton of assets (eg. COD, Assassins Creed, FarCry etc. etc. etc.). Yet no one is screaming those are ports.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again
@DarthNocturnal I felt Splatoon 2 became more different from Splatoon as time passed (which isn't usually the case with sequels) and that's the sequel idea I have for Smash. It would be very similar to Smash 4 with the main distinguishing factors being some extra characters and stages as well as a significant single player mode (think Subspace Emissary scale) at launch but as time went on there'd be more content that separates it from Smash 4.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Even if it was - Splatoon 2 addressed many of the issues that people had with the original (eg. the specials are better balanced - and each have their vulnerabilities now - plus, they added single-player and co-op modes too...it may be similar, but it's also a notable improvement) ..if they did the same with Smash - by adding a better single-player mode, a handful of new characters and making a few QoL improvements here and there, for example - who's gonna complain?
Smash games are never drastically different from one another anyway - we know they're not going to tear up the rule book and 'reinvent the wheel' with the game...the Smash series is basically; Smash 1, Smash 1.1, Smash 1.2 and Smash 1.3 - regardless of whether the next one is a port or a sequel, we all know it's going to be Smash 1.4 - and that's fine, because that's the way it's always been!
...it's not like they're all of a sudden going to change it in to a first-person, open world brawler now - is it?!
EDIT: Over the years, it's only changed from this...
...to this:
It'll be the same old Smash we all know and love either way!
@IceClimbers There's nothing suggesting this is new either. Nintendo haven't said it's new, they've been very deliberate in making sure that hasn't been said. So what have people got? A bit of new CGI and a bit of music. Big whoop. They need a new trailer anyway and Nintendo don't make them, they're handled externally. The DLC characters aren't in the Wii U trailer and neither are any potential new characters. Then you've the likelihood of updated skins as we've seen already with Link.
I'm not saying 100% it's only a upgraded port, though I believe it is. But equally, people can't claim it's an all new game. You've no proof.
I’m sorry, I’m just here to very quickly provide the definition of arguing
argue
[ahr-gyoo]
verb (used without object), ar·gued, ar·gu·ing.
to present reasons for or against a thing:
He argued in favor of capital punishment.
I’m not trying to be rude here, I just wanted to point out a common misconception about that word. Argue always has a negative connotation to it, as if it’s only arguing if you’re being not nice about it. That’s not really the case. It’s more, two (or more) people having a friendly debate.
That's one the reasons we've seen so many ports on the Switch, it's an absolute doddle to work on.
Saw that on YouTube last night. Doesn't look good for the Hat in Time developers if they stick to their current argument. Money could be made in a short amount of time.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Hey, if it takes like no effort to port old great games then by all means port away. It's easy money at that point, why wouldn't you port over stuff?
Though I want to see third-parties bring in either exclusives like Mario + Rabbids and/or same-day multiplatforms. After E3, it'll time to see how much AAA third-party support the Switch will be getting.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
Assuming the challenge wall returns, there should totally be Korok seed like trolling for rewards. Maybe even have a Korok seed trophy for completing the hardest challenge.
I can't wait for the rest of the Wii U library to come over.
And the few games that don't will be made irrelevant with sequels anyways (Splatoon, Smash, Mario Maker, Yoshi).
There's not too much more left though, really. NSMBU won't come, and neither will Star Fox or Paper Mario since they weren't well received, and Kirby requires touch so that won't come.
But if they could bring 3D World next year, P* brings W101, Pikmin 3, Xenoblade X and Atlus brings Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and bundle Windwaker and Twilight Princess... that'll pretty much wrap it up.
The entirety of the Wii U library (at least what's worthwhile) condensed into a handheld. If you would have told me a few years ago the next handheld would be playing all the best Wii U games releasing at the time, I'd have laughed you to scorn

They will look on Me whom they pierced
@YummyHappyPills
Captain Toad doesn't really require touch. Difference between using, and requiring. Kirby does. No way to play that game without touch, just wouldn't work. Maybe with motion, but no way analog could work.
@subpopz
My issue was more not being in HD. It worked, but HD capacitive screw is just so much better. That and every game requiring a different hotkey combo to swap to gamepad. Could enter remember which one to use- swipe down, find in options, + or -, + and - at same time, etc etc. That and the 20 foot invisible leash.

I would have rejoiced (like I am now lol). I couldn't even tell you how many times I was playing on the tablet and wishing I could go more than 10' from the base unit.
Sure, delighted to be able to take the Wii U library anywhere, but don't expect me to pay for all the games again
Unless I find them going dirt cheap, MK8D and BotW will be the only Wii U games I'll buy twice.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
