So the gold points work on the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion. You also get 100 points for buying it

@Grumblevolcano Ah, thanks. I remember hearing about a datamine last week, and they had found evidence of a few new costumes, so it seemed that there were for sure more costumes. That part about Mario’s adventure not being over yet, now that excites me.

Looks like World Conquerer X is a fairly legit WWII strategy game (and, its Switch exclusive, for the record).

Reviewer says it's more simple and streamlined than the uber-serious WWII strategy games, but to its credit plays great and is a perfect introduction into the genre for newcomers.

I think I may pick this up. There's nothing like it on Switch. Heck there's hardly anything like it on consoles period. This genre is sorely lacking.

@OorWullie Saw it on my computer. Looks like its just another one of those sites that don't work on my tablet for some reason.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE It will cost me nothing as I had bought NBA Playgrounds. They had better honor that!

I don't see why a digital game costs more. Bad move and I hope no one supports it because of this.

Edit: Didn't realize this was getting a physical release.

Ya, $10 more on top of a $30 game is substantial, I hope someone gets an answer out of them as to why this is the case. It's most probably the cartridge expense issue again. I searched but can't find any information on its file size, it's too early really.

I was just thinking this morning, the Direct was another event that came and went and still we don't know what Retro Studios are working on. It's been over 4 years since DKC: TF. Imagine if it emerges at E3 that they've been working on the upgraded port of Smash Bos. Wii U.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE They’ve been busy working... on their CVs and posting them to Bungie.

@DarthNocturnal Maybe they can't decide which sounds better between Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch or Super Smash Bros. 4 Deluxe

I'm of the view it could be either a port or a Splatoon 2 type situation.

So we got MK8 Deluxe last year but somehow they've made a new Smash Bros. game for this year despite the facts that they only finished making DLC for it a couple of years ago, Sakurai saying he needed a rest and that Nintendo themselves haven't said it's new. They can put a lick of paint on it, update Link and Zelda, maybe add some new fighters(Inklings for starters) and stages, possibly a few new modes, but there's just no way I believe this is an all new Smash Bros. game.

There are some reasons why they wouldn't want to say it's a port of the Wii U/3DS game, e.g. the DLC. What happens there? Would they include all of that for free? That's a lot of revenue and wouldn't be in Nintendo's nature. Companies also took a slice of its profits, Platinum Games, Capcom, Square Enix, Bandai Namco and more.

The DLC on Wii U/3DS is a mess on the eShop. There's not even an all-in-one bundle. The DLC just for the Wii U version costs twice the price of the game and only adds a fraction of extra content compared to the main game.

It’s pointless discussing it tbh. Just wait until they unveil what it actually is.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE My gut feeling is that whatever Retro's been working on will be revealed at E3. It seems to be a major project. A Retro employee recently described it as having "world building and a non linear storyline" on his/her LinkedIn, so I think it might be Nintendo's answer to the AAA single-player games from other companies that focus heavily on story, like Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Melee was made in under a year. Brawl started development in 2005.

Smash 4 was announced in 2012 and Sakurai wasn't even aware he was making it, and they made a 3DS AND Wii U version in two years.

There is no reason to assume this isn't a new game.

One more thing. What did we see of Smash in the Direct? Gameplay? No. We saw a CGI trailer. Now, I'm not completely sure but I know a lot of the time these aren't made by the game companies themselves, they're made by external professional CGI companies.

And regarding the logo, it's not a big deal to change it, if it's a port, it won't be the Wii U version, nor will it be the 3DS version, so give it its own logo, especially if it's an enhanced port. And it you watch the logo come on screen, I believe that's only part of its load up, watch the opening of Melee to see what I mean. They've had time to update things here, MK8D didn't have as much time and I believe it'll be their big push for the online plan, possibly their Christmas title, of course they'll make some effort.

OorWullie

@SLIGEACH_EIRE There are 3 telling indicators at the end of the trailer that makes it pretty clear this will be a brand new game. At the end of the trailer it has

©2018 Nintendo
Original Game © Nintendo / HAL Laboratory Inc

If it was a port it would say

© 2014 / 2018 Nintendo

Just like Pokken, MK8D, Captain Toad and any other port ever released has to say by business law. Then it has 'Original Game', to me that alone is enough proof. Lastly it says 'Nintendo /HAL Laboratory Inc'. Smash 4 was developed by Bandai Namco along with Sora. They couldn't just drop those 2 names from an upgraded port of a game that they developed. Also this is the first time HAL have been named as the developer since Smash Bros Melee,Brawl was developed by Sora.

@OorWullie Mario Kart 8 Deluxe says © 2017 Nintendo at the end of the trailer.

Original game refers to the original Super Smash Bros., which was developed by Nintendo and HAL (when Sakurai still used to work at HAL).

Grumblevolcano

@OorWullie Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokken DX doesn't mention the original year in the copyright. Also the second line of the copyright at the end of the trailer was in the 3DS/Wii U trailers which means that line is not to do with the 2018 game but rather the franchise itself.

So right now the only evidence suggesting a new game is:

  • BotW Link instead of Twilight Princess Link though could just be an alternate costume (like Alph) or extra character (like Toon Link) rather than a replacement hence port is possible.
  • The music though could just be added like how the 3DS/Wii U DLC had extra music.

SLIGEACH_EIRE

@OorWullie I've been over some of this before, with regard to only having ©2018 Nintendo in the trailer, that doesn't matter. Nintendo have done this for loads of games, e.g. check out the end of the MK8D trailer.

No acknowledgement whatsoever of the Wii U version.

The same "Original Game" copyright was written about the Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS game as well. Scroll to the bottom.

It's an acknowledgement that Nintendo and HAL Laboratory made the original game on the N64.
