@Grumblevolcano Ah, thanks. I remember hearing about a datamine last week, and they had found evidence of a few new costumes, so it seemed that there were for sure more costumes. That part about Mario’s adventure not being over yet, now that excites me.
Reviewer says it's more simple and streamlined than the uber-serious WWII strategy games, but to its credit plays great and is a perfect introduction into the genre for newcomers.
I think I may pick this up. There's nothing like it on Switch. Heck there's hardly anything like it on consoles period. This genre is sorely lacking.
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
Ya, $10 more on top of a $30 game is substantial, I hope someone gets an answer out of them as to why this is the case. It's most probably the cartridge expense issue again. I searched but can't find any information on its file size, it's too early really.
I was just thinking this morning, the Direct was another event that came and went and still we don't know what Retro Studios are working on. It's been over 4 years since DKC: TF. Imagine if it emerges at E3 that they've been working on the upgraded port of Smash Bos. Wii U.
So we got MK8 Deluxe last year but somehow they've made a new Smash Bros. game for this year despite the facts that they only finished making DLC for it a couple of years ago, Sakurai saying he needed a rest and that Nintendo themselves haven't said it's new. They can put a lick of paint on it, update Link and Zelda, maybe add some new fighters(Inklings for starters) and stages, possibly a few new modes, but there's just no way I believe this is an all new Smash Bros. game.
There are some reasons why they wouldn't want to say it's a port of the Wii U/3DS game, e.g. the DLC. What happens there? Would they include all of that for free? That's a lot of revenue and wouldn't be in Nintendo's nature. Companies also took a slice of its profits, Platinum Games, Capcom, Square Enix, Bandai Namco and more.
The DLC on Wii U/3DS is a mess on the eShop. There's not even an all-in-one bundle. The DLC just for the Wii U version costs twice the price of the game and only adds a fraction of extra content compared to the main game.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE My gut feeling is that whatever Retro's been working on will be revealed at E3. It seems to be a major project. A Retro employee recently described it as having "world building and a non linear storyline" on his/her LinkedIn, so I think it might be Nintendo's answer to the AAA single-player games from other companies that focus heavily on story, like Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc.
One more thing. What did we see of Smash in the Direct? Gameplay? No. We saw a CGI trailer. Now, I'm not completely sure but I know a lot of the time these aren't made by the game companies themselves, they're made by external professional CGI companies.
And regarding the logo, it's not a big deal to change it, if it's a port, it won't be the Wii U version, nor will it be the 3DS version, so give it its own logo, especially if it's an enhanced port. And it you watch the logo come on screen, I believe that's only part of its load up, watch the opening of Melee to see what I mean. They've had time to update things here, MK8D didn't have as much time and I believe it'll be their big push for the online plan, possibly their Christmas title, of course they'll make some effort.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE There are 3 telling indicators at the end of the trailer that makes it pretty clear this will be a brand new game. At the end of the trailer it has
Just like Pokken, MK8D, Captain Toad and any other port ever released has to say by business law. Then it has 'Original Game', to me that alone is enough proof. Lastly it says 'Nintendo /HAL Laboratory Inc'. Smash 4 was developed by Bandai Namco along with Sora. They couldn't just drop those 2 names from an upgraded port of a game that they developed. Also this is the first time HAL have been named as the developer since Smash Bros Melee,Brawl was developed by Sora.
@OorWullie Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokken DX doesn't mention the original year in the copyright. Also the second line of the copyright at the end of the trailer was in the 3DS/Wii U trailers which means that line is not to do with the 2018 game but rather the franchise itself.
So right now the only evidence suggesting a new game is:
BotW Link instead of Twilight Princess Link though could just be an alternate costume (like Alph) or extra character (like Toon Link) rather than a replacement hence port is possible.
The music though could just be added like how the 3DS/Wii U DLC had extra music.
