Topic: The Nintendo Switch Thread

It's really is kind of strange how Netflix went from "We have the app up and running, we need the OK from Nintendo" to "Yeah, we're not doing this."

Seems like Netflix has subscribed to the Capcom/EA school of "We will support it" one week, then not the next, and then back again.

It does need to be mentioned though, there is a HUGE logistical issue with apps like these - Europe.

28 countries. Each with their own stations. Each with their own native shows, production companies, licenses to work out.

That's part of why TVii never came to Europe. It was too costly and too much of a mess tuning it for every country, their licenses for shows and so on.

Remember, Netflix does have significant regional variance in shows. Some are only in the UK, some are only in the US, and so on. I imagine the licenses would all have to be renegotiated...to include a new platform.

People will chirp up and say I'm wrong and no nothing. Nothing hurt a little speculation now, did it?

@Scrummer Surely the answer is obvious, not strange. Maybe they didn't get the o.k. and so it's been dropped. Simple as.

Since I have a lot of Netflix enabled devices already (laptops and smartphone portable, TV, STB and PS4 in home), I couldn't care less if it would never come to Switch. It leaves more time to focus on what the Switch is meant for: gaming.

In all seriousness, why would they have to renegotiate licences? It's not as if companies sign a deal with Netflix to allow their show on a certain number of platforms. It's on Netflix. Period. Whether that's on your phone, laptop, smart TV, PC, Xbox or PS4 doesn't matter. At least it shouldn't. If they have to renegotiate for every new platform... someone needs to be fired.

Netflix is on the Wii, even the 3DS, heck even the Vita and the Wii U. I don't see how the Switch would be any more complicated than those systems, from a technical and a logistic point of view.

Anyway I don't know. Its all baseless speculation, a specialty of Nintendo users it seems.

But whatever, all we do know is Netflix has hoped on the "We will/we wont" cycle for the system.

And to that I say....meh. It's Netflix. Already millions in debt.

I don't think Netflix is a big priority for Nintendo right now. The more time you invest in something everyone already has, the less time you have for the important stuff.

I wonder if part the reason Nintendo aren't pushing for apps like Netflix etc is because if people spend time using these services, that's time they aren't using to browse games on the eShop, which Nintendo will get a percentage of whereas there is no money from people using Netflix.

I'd like to point out that that account isn't the core Netflix account, but customer service. So in other words, probably someone posted that from India or whatever with no clue what was in the pipeline. I wouldn't read too much into the tweet.

@FragRed That's assuming people just don't boot up another device to watch Netflix on if they can't watch it on the Switch.

Hey there, first time posting here as I’ve yet to get a Switch (can’t wait to, though I have to 😫).
I’m really excited about all the games that are out and those that are coming out this year: I probably won’t have the time to play them all! lol
I’m very happy about all these ports coming to the Switch as I have a Wii U and a PS3, but had very little time to play them so I ended up buying only a handful of games, and with the Switch I’ll be able to play all those games I missed out on portably, which means actually being able to play them this time 😄
Games I already have like MK8 or Bayo 1+2 I probably won’t double dip on, bit I’m very excited about DKC:TF, Dark Souls and Hyrule Warriors (I’ve been wanting a Switch version with all the Wii U + Legends content since the Switch was announced 😄), as I never got to play them.

Online stability incoming this week. A whopping 11h40m of maintenance that may, or may not, affect online play for the Switch. Oh, and apparently the parental controls as well...

@Mintendo Any specific time given for when the maintenance will begin?

@NaviAndMii 2 am-9 am on january 16, 1:50 am-3:30 am on january 17, 2 am-5 am on january 18. And then some Splatoon2 maintenance coinciding with one of these times. And of course the parental controls! Times in CET.
