i am totally turned off by these new game gimmicks like achievements and trophies... i throw these into the same categories as loot boxes and fail dlc... something wrong with kids these days patronizing all these things.
@Ralizah OK, cool. I'm in Johnson City in the East. It's an odd place because it's not a huge town and video games (at least Nintendo ones) don't necessarily seem to be that popular, yet we have 4 Gamestops within 15-20 minutes of my house. I have always been able to find even super rare items here (I got an NES Classic by just walking into Walmart and asking about them). I'm still kicking myself because one of our Gamestops once had like 4 or 5 copies of the original Xenoblade on the shelf when they were rare and going for hundreds on Ebay. I should have bought them all.
@Xyphon22 I've had a few missed opportunities like that. Not with video games, though. I once thought about buying a $30 book from a (at that time) incredibly obscure author on release day, but decided not to. Within a week or two, it went out of print and the price skyrocketed to the point where people were charging upwards of $200 for it. I was really kicking myself for that one.
At least I got in on that FE Fates action. Got the special edition, played two of the three campaigns, and then sold it for more than I originally bought it for.
And lucky you. I think we have one Gamestop. Granted, that's probably all anyone needs in one town.
Probably a dumb question, but I am planning on getting a Switch next week, but also want to take advantage of Target's eShop card deal today. If I put the funds on my Wii U, will they also show up on my Switch when I connect it like they do on the 3DS? I assume so, but I read something once that made me think they don't transfer to the Switch unless you put them on the Switch itself, so I thought I would make sure.
@Xyphon22 If you have a Nintendo Account (this is different from Nintendo Network ID [NNID]), you can merge your NNID with your Nintendo Account and then the eshop funds can be used on all 3 systems (3DS, Wii U, Switch).
Sorry, now I'm more confused. @YummyHappyPills Are you saying if I put the funds on the Wii U and then hook up my Switch, the funds will all transfer to the Switch and I will have $0 left on the Wii U? But I can stop this by having a Nintendo Account according to @Grumblevolcano ? While I probably do, how do I know if I have a Nintendo Account separate from my NNID? Sorry if this should be obvious.
If there needs to be a trophy system, do it like how the 3DS Streetpass Plaza did it; non intrusive, only shows up when you go to the main menu. Steam does an alright job with its system, but I'm not a huge fan of getting trashed in Darkest Dungeon and seeing "Congrads!" in the bottom corner. No deal breaker, but something to consider.

@Xyphon22 Back in February 2016, Nintendo allowed creation of a Nintendo Account ready for when Miitomo and My Nintendo were to be released in March 2016. You could associate a NNID with that Nintendo Account so you could get the discounts associated with My Nintendo. When the Switch came out in March this year, the Nintendo Account gave you the option to merge your Wii U and 3DS funds with your Switch funds to have everything in one place. Once you've done the merge, you can spend the funds on any of the 3 platforms.
On another note, I have a January Direct prediction. The first trailer for the new Fire Emblem game will be revealed along with amiibo announced for some more fan favourite characters like Tharja and Camilla.
