That's great news.10 million was Nintendo's official forecast for the entire fiscal year and they've achieved that in less than 9 months with Xmas sales still to be accounted for. Once those have been added then it should be very close to Wii U's lifetime sales. By the end of the fiscal year, it could be as high as 18million sold, which is the number Nintendo were supposed to be telling their manufacturers to prepare for.
@OorWullie Do we know yet if the 10 million sales was just hit or was it 10 million like end of October? I assume it was just hit and doubt they will add another 3 million just in the next 3 weeks. Either way it's quite impressive and not many thought it would go this well by years end.
Can't remember how many people I argued with in March and April saying it could hit those numbers by years end especially with Mario releasing by years end. It seems even Xenoblade is selling quite well as it's been #1 on the eshop for about a week. Also, both Resident Evils keep slowly climbing the charts. I believe RE:R2 is now #6 or #5.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@FragRed I’ve seen other adverts with zelda, arms and Mario over the last couple of weeks just strange they give advertising space to 1-2 Switch. I suppose they’re trying to appeal to the post Christmas dinner parlour Game crowd.
@Spoony_Tech I'm not sure. I remember the last time Nintendo officially released numbers it was around 3 weeks after they had actually hit that number so it's possible they already hit 10m a while ago. I'm not sure exactly how much Xmas sales will add but looking at the Wii, in the 4th quarter of 2008 it managed to shift 10.5 million with December sales alone making up half that figure. It's certainly possible.
Next year is going to be amazing. I'm fully expecting the one 1st party game a month to continue for a good while yet. This next Direct will be massive. With what they've delivered so far and giving the fan base the kind of games we've been asking for,new IP's - ARMS, open world Mario, Metroid etc then maybe hoping for F-Zero isn't too ambitious after all. According to Koizumi were in for a lot of surprises.
Yoshiaki Koizumi, producer of Super Mario Odyssey:
"Nintendo still have many IPs which have not come out for the system, and also more than just existing IPs in store as well. We are planning and preparing games that people probably haven’t even thought about, which will be released steadily over the next two years. We hope to make games which resonate with players using this process, so please patiently look forward to it."
@grizzgolf It is worth upgrading, lots of fantastic games and you have the ability to play anywhere. As for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe online, it's a tough one. Currently it's very active, you'll be able to find matches very quickly however some time in 2018 Nintendo are introducing a paid online subscription which could potentially increase the wait time for matches. It really depends on how good the subscription actually is which we currently know very little about.
Don't get rid of the Wii U though, it would be wiser to have both if possible especially if you liked the Virtual Console on Wii U which doesn't exist on Switch (at least yet).
@grizzgolf MK8D is very active, as is Splatoon 2. Is it worth it? Absolutely so,it's an incredible console that just keeps getting better. I couldn't be happier with it.
@OorWullie I can't wait to see what the Direct will bring. My guess is it will focus on the games coming out up to E3 or the next Direct before E3. Is there usually a Direct in April? Besides that I hope we'll see a glimpse of a game or 2 coming at the end of 2018. I suspect that Animal Crossing for Switch will get announced, especially now people are able to play the mobile game to keep the momentum of the franchise going. Smash Bros. will get an E3 unveiling. I sadly don't see Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon both launching in 2018, maybe the former. Retro Studios' game should come out instead.
@Oubie There's always a general direct with reveals in January, February, March/April, June (E3), and September-November looking back since directs began.
@Oubie I hope Nintendo has the Direct at the very beginning of January to give time to build up hype after the festive holiday sales for the games they have coming out.

@Oubie Yep, I think we're in for a good few Directs next year. There will probably be around 3 big ones over the year and several smaller ones, like a game specific Direct or Nindies Showcase.
I think Animal Crossing is a safe bet. I also think one of Pokémon or Metroid will release at the end of the year. My bets on it being Pokémon. There was rumours Nintendo hope to shift 25 to 30 million consoles next year, having Pokémon in there would certainly help them achieve that figure. As for other games I think are coming outside of the ones we already know of like Fire Emblem. I'm thinking big so excuse me while I get carried away
The Switch equivalent of the Wii/ DS series of games. Less casual than those though and focused on local/online multiplayer for certain demographics. Nintendo want us using the Switch like in the ads, that will be the aim of this series.
Odyssey DLC - a new set of challenging worlds. Think Super Luigi Bros DLC.
F-Zero - (I know, I know but I can feel it) One for the long time fans and a huge part of the plan for encouraging us to pay for the online subscription. They gave us 2 Metroids, a new IP and an open world Mario. They're clearly listening, so why not F-Zero?Other than Wave Race what else is left for fans to request?
A sports game , possibly a collection possibly a new IP. Much more than Wii Sports though. Something new and exciting for the summer with tons of depth . A game we'll be playing for a long time to come and one of the defining games the Switch will be remembered for.
@Oubie I can't imagine Pokemon not launching Holiday 2018. They can't milk Pokemon 3DS any further and with Switch sales so good there's little reason to try, and if all development is focused on the new engine (and generation?) for Switch, I can't imagine them not making Switch the next entry. And I can't imagine them having no Pokemon next Christmas, especially after US/UM was kind of a stopgap this year. Ishihara said at E3 "may be more than a year away"....holiday 18' would be a year and a half from that E3. Plus while Switch momentum is on fire and Pokemon brand is soaring with the movie and such, the iron is pretty hot to strike.
@OorWullie What's left? A good Star Fox and a reboot of Murasame Castle please.
I still think Metroid is a 2019/2020 title. Not sure on Pokemon, but I feel like the franchise will benefit from a 2019 release. No need to rush one out for the Switch next year. I want them to take their time and develop a good game for once.
