In terms of Pokémon for 2018, I think it likely. The anime is released in conjunction with the games, with the first episode always being around the release of the games [in Japan]. If we look where the anime is at the minute, unless there's an entire extra year of content to come from it during 2018-19 [and short of another bridge like Orange Islands or the Battle Frontier I don't see that as likely], then it'll finish with a bridge in 2018 ready for the new game.
As for the Switch as a whole, I could see Nintendo trying a revival of several franchises for Switch. They seem to have been testing the waters with that early on 3DS, but with Switch being as popular as it is, I think Nintendo would be willing to go that extra mile.
@StuTwo I hope Nintendo think about that in 2018 and 2019 because those 2 years are crucial for the switch. Every game that uses cartridge but you also have to download the other half of the base game is instant NO BUY.
I want this to change because games like Wolfenstein II or Fallout 4 would not fit into 16GB cartridges.
I get the feeling that there's been far too much new stuff coming from Nintendo to be represented in Smash for the Wii U game to simply be ported. It'd be crazy not to expect a Mario Odyssey stage, Breath Of The Wild stage, Splatoon stage + Inkling, ARMS stage + fighter, Xenoblade 2 stage (and maybe Rex + Pyra?), Pokemon (Ultra) Sun & Moon + content and probably a stage to promote Metroid Prime 4 like Wooly World did.
@meleebrawler DLC and extra base content are the easy solution to that. Even if you believe Deluxe = no DLC, that can be worked around by naming the game "Super Smash Bros. for Switch", it would act as a Deluxe title but have DLC afterwards.
@Grumblevolcano Indeed. Honestly a Smash 5 would probably end up using Smash 4 as a base anyways. Like imagine the people calling Splatoon 2 an enhanced port of Splatoon but amplified 1000 times over. It'd be either that or a game built from the ground up but with a LOT of character cuts, which would disappoint many, many people.
An actual port of Smash 4 called "Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch" is the way to go. Toss in Inkling, Spring Man, Ice Climbers, and maybe another 3rd party character (Bomberman? Doomguy? Rayman?), some stages, some music, and some more ATs/PokeBall Pokemon and call it good.
Don't forget the mandatory Urchin Underpass and Spring Stadium Stages... or something along those lines anyways. But yeah, grab all the 3DS stages, all the Wii U stages, three to five new characters and stages (including the already mostly finished Ice Climbers), some gen VII reps in the pokeballs, a few new assist trophies (Squid Sisters and an ARMS fighter most likely) both the Wii U and 3DS exclusive modes, and... if they really think that won't be enough of a selling point, a real Adventure Mode (please). I can't imagine it wouldn't be an evergreen title for the rest of the console's life considering how solid the core is.
@Late No, you're correct. That's how people know that the 32GB cartridge exists at all. Whether or not it's still being produced though is anyone's guess.
So what games do you guys think we'll see at the Game Awards tomorrow?
They've confirmed that a new trailer for Metro Exodus will be one of the world premieres tomorrow.
I think we'll see the Zelda DLC for sure, and maybe one other announcement from Nintendo. Beyond that, I think A Way Out, Sea of Thieves, and possibly RDR2 will show up. We don't know the release date for RDR2 after all.
I'm 100% confident Death Stranding will show up. Hideo Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro, and Norman Reedus are all going to be there, so yeah.
For Nintendo I think BotW DLC Pack 2, Super Mario Odyssey season pass and if there are unannounced Switch games releasing before March then one of those too. If January and February are game drought months for Switch (possible given Kirby is Spring), I think no new game announcements until the January Direct so just the DLC.
Does anyone have the nyko switch dock? Is it a good alternative to the regular dock? Is it worth the money? If not are there any other third party docks that are?
For $20 I think the Zelda season pass is great. The trial was easily worth half the price alone, and we still have a huge story expansion coming, not to mention all the armor and map features and Korok mask, etc.
I trust Xenoblade Chronicles 2 pass will be even meatier. Nintendo has never disappointed me with a season pass (except once, FE Shadows of Valentia was good but cost too much, the previous FE games had spectacular DLC).
@Grumblevolcano
That's good to hear. They're up to like 12 and 14 on the US charts. These games deserve to sell alot better than what they are. Especially for the price. The motion controls and split screen RAID mode anywhere on the spot and top notch resolution and graphics... that alone makes them worth picking up.
