@KirbyTheVampire I just end up pidgeonholing those people in a meat box called "Afraid of change". Its a new classification. Give it some time. Im sure the GameBoy and NES, smart phones and electric cars all had the same start.
@UmniKnight Its not the negativity that bothers me man. If there was no negative who would we know whats positive?
Its that all these things are only NOW problems. Ive known from the start there would be compromises. We all did. It was clear.
What baffles me is even after the success, even after stuff like Mario + Rabbids and Zelda, and the high sales of indies, and the response to Skyrim and FIFA, that people still write the thing off because of what it isnt.
Heres the thing. They dont need to like it. But they shouldnt lambast others for liking it like I see so many people do. I hold a very "You do you" approach. Im not huge on the PS4. Do I tell you you spent your money wrong and that it has no games and all the jazz we hear about Switch? No. People are content with their purchase.
Its the people who bring up these problems without ever acknowledging that those problems to them are good to others because as you say everyone is individual. Its the complete writing off of one side that drives me insane.
The elitism that "This is what it should have been to be worth anything to anyone" or flat out denying what it is, is what sucks. Because then the comments go on and on.

@UmniKnight Its been said before. Switch refers to more than "TV or handheld". It refers to choosing your control configuration out of the box. You can even Switch from handheld mode to tabletop mode, and that doesnt need the dock.

@JaxonH I like how you glance over the people that use the damn thing as a home-console in regards to ports. Ports are mostly perceived in a negative light so far that I've gotten the impression. The old tat of other consoles, games most have already played, something people don't care about any longer (Skyrim, being ported all-over and quite old by now)
I'm actually quite excited about one of these "old ports" that being Xenoverse 2, so before you pin that down on me, consider that first.
Exclusives is primarily what sells systems, and a port by it's very definition, isn't an exclusive. Portability will only go so far.
@KirbyTheVampire Can you hold the Switch in your hands like a handheld? Can you do the same to a PS4/Xbox One/any other machine that holds the home-console moniker? It is a handheld by form factor, and this is a fact.
The dock built out and made strong is probably what people would've liked to see. No matter how you view the docked Switch, it's a handheld that gets a little hand to perform as that which it actually isn't, because removing the machine itself, shatters that illusion of home-console once it neatly continues as what it really is, said handheld.
@BLP_Software The reason why people would be miffed, is because they constantly get facts thrown in their face associated with the handheld part, and so they get averse to it the point of hating it. Weak hardware? Compromise for portability. Cartridges with low storage? Compromise for portability. Ironically, it's that same portability that endears people, and has devs even notice the darn thing, but the fact remains that those who bought a Wii-U, and are looking for that which does what it should've done and succeed, are not finding what they're looking for. Instead, they find the Switch, a handheld in form-factor that has a dock, which arguably could've been far more than it really is. They can't fall back on an alternative with Nintendo games, now can they? I wonder how many people would truly have bought a Switch, if Nintendo's games were on PS4/Xbox One/PC as well.
The Switch was guaranteed to get these clashes from the get-go due to being "hybrid" but it's the handheld only games that really light the fire in this case.
At the end of the day, I personally am stuck to it, because it's the only device that runs the next Pokemon, the next FE etc. If I was given the choice to have these games on stronger hardware, then I would've gone with that in a heartbeat.
@UmniKnight
We're not talking about "selling systems". We're talking about having great games to play. Nintendo games are the only thing that sells Nintendo systems. These games are just so people like us can have fun games.
And you need to get over your whole deal being upset it's not some power console. Had it been that, then millions of other people would be upset Nintendo flushed their cool advantage down the toilet just so Mario can have a shinier cap. The system is what it is. Everyone loves it. You need to accept that it's not what you would've preferred... but truthfully nobody cares what you would've preferred. People are happy because one single Switch can play games on the TV that look almost just as good as current gen power consoles, all while playing those same games on the handheld (and look almost just as good as current gen power consoles). People love that. We get it- you just play games on the TV. Oh well. Everyone else loves the hybrid aspect, even people who don't typically play on handhelds love it just because of the versatility it offers in the house. Time to suck it up and get over it. Times are changing, and people are quickly realizing how dated it is to lock a console to a single television, when you could have games that look 85% as good yet not be tethered to single chair and room. Be grateful that it is a hybrid which can play on the TV. Cause had it not switched in the dock, you'd be SOL...
Traditionally how well does FPS games do on Nintendo systems without going all the way back to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark?
Two things I'd say to this. Firstly there haven't really been any shooters on Nintendo platforms to be successful. The ones that have existed have always been seen as the graphically worst versions. Something that hits that genre hard given it has mostly been a genre about specs.
But I think post-Bayonetta 2 we need to get over this idea that people with Nintendo consoles don't want "mature games". Especially given how much of the Sony portable market Nintendo is taking.
Most people would say outsell the Wii to be successful. Most would be happy outpacing the Xbox One. Nevermind catching the PS4 which had a head start of some margin.
Well if you do a comparison of sales at ~21 weeks for hardware....
PS4: 7.2mill (~200k/week steady)
Wii: 6.2mill (~250k/week steady)
Switch: 5.2mill (~150k/week but super erratic)
XBOne: 4mill (~90k/week steady)
3DS: 3.2mill (~80k/week steady)
Wii U: 2.8mill (~30k/week steady)
and for software
Wii: 18mill
PS4: 16mill
XBOne: 12mill
Switch: 10mill
Wii U: 6.5mill
3DS: 5.2mill
Given it hasn't had a Christmas sales period yet and most of those other consoles did I think those numbers are pretty impressive. If it can continue that sort of pace then it's well and truly a successful console. Especially if it can resolve the supply issues and start to outpace the Wii/PS4.
@Hieronymus-E Reggie's comment about holiday Switch stock doesn't give me confidence Switch stock will be any better than SNES Classic stock. Both will be extremely hard to find from around November.
@JaxonH Hmph, what a way to look at it. Nintendo started on home-consoles, or did you forget that, handheldy? I should be grateful that Nintendo chooses to preserve and continue their own legacy? I'd nearly call you arrogant for that. Everyone else loves the hybrid? I'm sure there are more people who don't, take Sligare for example, oh but of course, you'll discredit him for a troll or so right?
It's a sad thing that Nintendo is still in the hardware business, since if they were third-party, then people wouldn't be bound down to their hardware. They'd be free to choose whatever the F they pleased. Nintendo could make this super jacked up handheld you lot lose yourselves over at night, while other people can also have their slice.
Ah but no, we should all be content with the Switch, even if it's VERY CLEARLY biased towards one side over the other. And this is exactly why there's a clash of home-console vs handheld, because it was inevitable that people like you, and people like me, would be stuck to the same machine, like different parts of it, but see what is factually a handheld pretending to be something it isn't. And just so you're very well aware, it was sold to me as a home-console.
@UmniKnight
What does it matter what they started with? But for the record, they were releasing handheld game devices long before NES.
Slig doesn't even own the console. Any criticism he has is automatically discounted on the fact he's biased in favor of Wii U anyways, but even if he wasn't, I take no one's criticism seriously if they don't even own the console they're criticizing, because they have no frame of reference or experience to speak from.
You can just keep on pissing and moaning about how you wish Nintendo did this and wish they did that, but too bad for you, because they're not 3rd party, and they're not making clone power consoles. Guess it sucks to be you.
@JaxonH Hah, how very much not your age "Guess it sucks to be you". I must be hitting the right tones for you to respond like that. I'll just take my dignity and sign off the moment the Switch inevitably transitions into a pure handheld, since that isn't what I signed up for. Again, the Switch was sold as a home-console, which isn't a handheld, hence my point about false advertising, but I'm sure you'll drum up a nice fanboy excuse for that as well. Go on, I've time aplenty.
@UmniKnight
Why wait? Sign off now and spare us all the headache...
And I believe it's me that has hit the right tone with you, because out comes the fanboy accusations. The system plays console games on a television out of the box with separate dedicated controllers.... Ergo>>> home console. Just because you've got some fantasy definition doesn't mean it's not a home console.
And I'm sure you do have time a plenty. In fact that's all you seem to have is time to complain and whine and bitch and moan. Gosh dang dude just sell your system and be done with it already I'm sick of hearing it
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
@UmniKnight It does look like a handheld, but what matters is how it functions, and it just so happens to function as both a handheld and a console, thus it's a hybrid. How it looks doesn't change that. That's completely rediculous.
I'm sure you'd be thinking differently if it could output 4K at 60 FPS, though. That's what seems to really matter to you.
"Certainly the demand is there, and our supply chain is there [to hit the 10 million goal]. Are we going to have enough for the holiday? That’s what we are focused on."
I don't know how many want Switches, but I'll guess more than they'll be able to sell. Based on this quote, stock may be saved for the holiday season.
Expect to see a jump larger than launch day.

Nintendo Switch continues to perform well and is currently gearing up for its all-important first Christmas. Codemasters saw moderate success from the Wii versions of its earlier Formula One titles, so could the series make a return to Nintendo platforms?
"Obviously we've been watching how the Switch is performing and it's selling really well," says Mather. "It probably wouldn't be suitable to have exactly the same game we have running on Xbox One and PS4, but there's certainly the possibility we'll look at doing something on Switch. We'll see what happens in future. It's certainly getting the market share to make it a valid place to be."
Hmph, what a way to look at it. Nintendo started on home-consoles, or did you forget that, handheldy? I should be grateful that Nintendo chooses to preserve and continue their own legacy? I'd nearly call you arrogant for that.
I know you're trying to get a rise out of people but surely you can't be that ignorant of Nintendo's portable history. To put it simply of the top 20 selling games on any platform of all time 7 are on Nintendo portables. Of the top 10 best selling consoles of all time four are Nintendo portables and only one is a Nintendo home console. To ram the point home if you were to rank just Nintendo consoles on sales you'd get this, portables in bold:
1. Nintendo DS 2. Gameboy
3. Wii 4. GBA 5. 3DS
6. NES
7. SNES
8. N64
9. Gamecube
10. Wii U
If Nintendo's home console legacy is so much more important than their portable legacy why didn't people buy the Wii U? Why didn't people buy the Gamecube? Why are Nintendo's fortunes changing on the back of a home console that makes a point of limiting itself in order to be portable?
@JaxonH Nintendo's IP that I so enjoy won't be moving anywhere, so as I've said before: I'm stuck to it. But I'll give it a rest here, since this isn't going anywhere proper anyhow.
@KirbyTheVampire Hah, I don't even have a 4K TV, and what matters more is stable frame-rate. I've never really given much thought to such things, other than frame-rate, because I know what it's like to have no frames in an MMO, and I value it being steady and preferably high, because it is immersion-breaking to go around with your Stasis + rune in BotW, and see the dips like a bobbing rubber-duck in a bath.
I'd simply like to see that traditional way of playing sticking around, not disappear into thin air since that's how I've enjoyed my Nintendo games the most. A handheld doesn't accommodate for that.
@UmniKnight Switch is still more powerful than Wii U though so a way you could look at it is that even if there was no handheld functionality that would've still been the power of the system judging by the direction Nintendo went with the Wii and Wii U. So between a hybrid or a home console only with the same power, it's obvious that one would go with the hybrid as the only advantage the home console only method has is using discs instead of cartridges (i.e. removing the Switch tax).
