Lots of articles explaining why powering off is useless now that sleep and hibernation modes are a thing
Even if it's not actively worse, it offers no benefit. Saving a few pennies on a monthly bill hardly outweighs the benefit of instantly resuming at will and maintaining save states

@UmniKnight I wish I'd have had the option to learn Japanese at school - then localisation wouldn't be an issue! Instead, they made us learn French - which, frankly, hasn't been anywhere near as useful as Japanese would've been! ..I'm writing to the Government!!
(..and, yeah, I have to shut down my PC each time because it kicks out so much heat - not ideal, I know, but necessary nonetheless! Planning on building myself a new rig soon - cooling will be a top, top priority!)
@NaviAndMii Yeah, we only get English around here as 2nd language, and by the time I got that, I knew far more than anyone could even teach me, so it was just repetitive boring stuff
@UmniKnight Haha! I can only imagine! It's truly humbling when I encounter people from other countries speaking English so well - makes me feel a little embarrassed truth be told - but I just have little use for the French I learned at school in day to day life...we have a lot of Indian people living in my local community - quite a lot of Portuguese too, strangely - so one of those languages might have been more useful! ..but, if I could just download a language to my brain, I'd choose Japanese! (still time to learn, I guess - maybe I should challenge myself?!)
I'm on the side of 'Not buying that sleep mode is better'.
The primary purpose of sleep mode is user convenience. And it's great for that.
But it does eat power. Different systems will be more efficient than others (e.g. 3DS battery will only last a couple of days in Sleep, Switch battery will last more than a week).
I'm more than willing to bet that the first thing to die on my Switch will be the battery. And sooner than we'd like to think, Switch batteries will have become 'out-of-production'. And that's ignoring that the battery isn't even meant to be user-replaceable.
If you're the type of person who keeps their consoles after they've moved on to the next gen, what are you going to do with your Switch when you pack it away? Put it on sleep mode and and leave it plugged in to a power supply to preserve it's electronic innards?
If you're someone like Jaxon, who seems to have an almost infinite amount of hours per day for gaming, then I can understand why Sleep mode is the default action, but for someone like me, who's gaming time is unpredictable and spread over many systems, I go more than a week or two at times without using my Switch (as much as I love it and the few games I have on it), I'm quite sure powering it off is a reasonable way to maximise the longevity of the battery.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@gcunit "If you're someone like Jaxon, who seems to have an almost infinite amount of hours per day for gaming" That's me in a nutshell, but I still prefer shutting my systems off. I'm an old fart
When it comes to TGS you basically have to pay attention to the Twitter accounts and NeoGaf for localization news.
Anyways, regarding MHXX, didn't we have to wait quite a while before a localization announcement for 4U and Generations? With Nintendo footing the bill for both?
Capcom won't localize it themselves because they're focused on World. Nintendo won't announce anything until after Stories releases as they don't want to detract from that in any way.
@IceClimbers True, but I can see Capcom being against the localization due to it detracting from World. Yes, very contrived and strange-arcing to achieve that, but we are talking about Capcom after all.
@Grumblevolcano Oh? I didn't pay much attention to whole affair, honestly, did they cover a lot of September stuff and a little beyond that? I know they did Rabbids, Skyrim and a whole lot of indie stuff, but I didn't see Xenoverse 2, for example.
If my memory serves me correctly, there's usually a Direct in September (?) ..fingers crossed! Nintendo are sure to want to hit holiday season hard though so, who knows, maybe they still have a surprise up their sleeves? ..there seems to be a convenient little window after Mario Odyssey for something else, perhaps?
It doesn't. Here's a graph showing the number of ordinary Nintendo directs that weren't Japan/South Korea only, weren't game specific specials and weren't related to E3. By month, per year. If we're going to try and guess what they'll do? I'd say that October is usually when they do a Direct to build up a bit of hype going into Christmas. Feburary through April is typically when they clear the decks before E3. Between May and September is the quiet period with E3 right in the middle.
@Peek-a-boo People keep refering to Tokyo Game Show as something that we should look out for in the West. There's no guarantee that any game there gets a localization, since it is the Tokyo Game Show after all.
People do this every year. When there's nothin good at E3 people say "wait for Gamescom". When there's nothing good at gamescom people say "wait for tgs". the process repeats itself.
@EvilLucario Reggie did say that, but he didn't specify what type of game. Since then we've gotten several games announced from third parties and indies, so that statement has already been fulfilled.
I wouldn't expect anything 1st party unless it's an eShop title like Pushmo or Mario vs Donkey Kong.
@LeRaposa People want to have something they can hopefully get some games from, I get that. But Tokyo Game Show, and how Japan does tend to keep a lot of games to itself seems counter-intuitive to me.
