★★Story Time!!★★

So before I heard about adhesive skins deteriorating the look of the joy-cons and switches when taken off, I had installed a magnet mount on my car for my phone, and thought it would be fun to stick a magnet on the back of the switch, so that I could mount it in the car. It's not that I would get much use of it, as any Breath of the Wild played while driving would surely result in an accident, but I had a bit of fun mounting my Switch up high and playing while parked.

Naturally, the news of skins pealing off the exterior of the Switch came my way and I grew nervous. The other day, I decided to see what would happen if I peeled it off. It took the better half of a few hours, for although the apparently poorly designed magnet was separated from the adhesive by a peel-away plastic film with a helpful fold, the plastic film was so flimsy that it broke off easily (It didn't even come close to helping; why was it there?). I tried using many methods involving many tools I gathered around the apartment (mostly from the kitchen), but I eventually had the idea of scrapping the adhesive away with dental floss, and when the dental floss broke halfway through, I was able to peel the rest off with a knife.

With the magnet finally off, there was still a large gob of adhesive all over the spot where the magnet was, and I just could not believe how tough this adhesive was! I scrapped some off with my nails, and some more with paper towels, scrubbing vigerously. I tried applying some rubbing alcohol, but that didn't get it off cleanly enough. I tried using a red lense-cleaning cloth, but the adhesive kept sticking red dye all over the the thing, so I stopped that real quick. Finally, I looked for help online, and a video advised using cooking oil and paper towels, followed by grease-cutting soapy water. With that, it's finally all off.

And the amazing thing is, after all it went through, there's not a scratch of any kind, not on the lettering, nothin'. Perfectly prestine. I guess, whatever they use for skins (probably vynel) is tougher than the monster I was dealing with, and the knife, and the dental floss, and the cloth and paper towels. Crazy, huh? I guess the lettering isn't as cheap as I thought.

@MarcelRguez I think some people had docks that were slightly bend inward though, which could make the system scratch more easily. I don't think it's all that common, though.

@roy130390 I'm pretty sure the dock scratching the screen is 100% caused by human error. It's easy and cheap to prevent by putting some paper between the dock and the screen. Definitely overblown.

I have docked and undocked my Switch every single day starting on March 3. I have done it gingerly and carefully with both hands holding the joycon triggers. I have undocked it at an angle with one hand gripping the center top of the screen. I have even docked it one handed gripping the center top and dropping it down. It has not been scratched by this process, even at less than perfect angles. I treat my equipment delicately, but I'm not even paying more excessive care than I would docking any charger to any device now, it just works well. If we're keeping track there's, 100+ docking cycles so far.... That early hype was crazy overblown, but may have been due to defective units. If it's defective maybe it will scratch in the first few dockings. Otherwise I doubt it ever will. They clearly made certain the screen was harder material than the dock's guide rails, ensuring the screen scratches the dock, not the other way around.

@Grumblevolcano Wait, what? A week before E3? That's....weird..... This can't be big Stars/Switch news. I can't imagine why they wouldn't do that next week. I'm thinking it's more related to the new events etc going into Pokemon Go.

Why spend a fortune on a big press show if you're going to blow your biggest announcement a week before?

Grumblevolcano

@NEStalgia It's not Nintendo's decision when Game Freak/The Pokemon Company announce Pokemon stuff. If they want a reveal pre-E3 then they will get a reveal pre-E3. Nintendo will work around it like having gameplay at E3 like how things were for Sun/Moon last year.

@NEStalgia The Pokemon Company is weird. It sometimes feels like they're completely separate from Nintendo. If they want to announce a game before E3, then do so. Let's just say that if this is something big, it wouldn't surprise me.

@JaxonH I was browsing around power banks and saw your Amazon review....nice job

Question for you though, with the Anker. I currently have the iMuto Taurus X6 Pro....it's a nice unit....but doesn't have PD, and I have a QC3 charger and it's recharge time seems to not be using QC3 like it says....so it's 8 hours for 50% recharge, 16+ hours for full. I don't seem to use more than 52% of the battery. And the thing is BIG, and HEAVY (a 30,000mah unit.)

So far it's done great keeping the unit charged while playing so I was going to stick with it (and I love the battery readout in %....that's something I'd miss.) But yesterday I was playing Lego City for a while and I noticed my Switch battery was down to 76%.... (Arms, Disgaea, Minecraft have not done that. Lego didn't do that the other day, but apparently Lego is so unoptimized that doing the driving/racing missions eats battery like crazy to the point the charger wasn't keeping up.

How big/heavy is the Anker? If I bought a second unit I was thinking a 15000 or 20000 would keep it smaller and lighter which would be nice. The anker is only 15% less capacity than the iMuto so I fear it's just as bulky.

JaxonH

@NEStalgia
For It's size it's smaller than the other brands. But with PD you don't have a choice. The 26,800mAh is all that's offered with PD from Anker. And be careful. Just cause it says PowerCore+ 26,800 doesn't mean it's the PD version.

I can charge 0-100% while playing Zelda or Mario Kart on max settings in just 3-4 hrs. It's well worth it, and the Anker comes with a PD wall charger too, so you'll be covered two ways.

Otherwise, Aukey has a 30,000mAh for $65, no wall charger of course and fatter... But an inch shorter

@Grumblevolcano Good point, but Nintendo still has a controlling share of TPC, so they can't really as much as sneeze without Nintendo's go ahead. But you guys are right, maybe they'd do it outside the event to have it all their own. Stars would be amazing...let's HOPE it's something like that and not just more Go updates. I can't imagine a direct for Rumble, and they don't usually even do their own Mystery Dungeon announcements, leaving that to Spike Chunsoft.

All new Pokemon for 3DS!! Who's with me!?!

@MarcelRguez Yeah those scuffs from the bumpers are unavoidable, but they're pretty tiny at the bottom, and are over the black border so I don't worry about them. If instead of smudges they were grooves or slots for docking it, we'd still see them

Just remember, the "it scratches!!1" people would have those silicone bumpers across the entire inside of the dock....imagine the smudging then!

NEStalgia

NEStalgia

@DarthNocturnal Does TPC do the Pokken announcements or does Bamco handle those? It's more a licensed Bamco game than anything else.

Cool game...but announcing a fighting game right on the toes of ARMS and just before an inevitable Smash port....seems like bad timing. The game might be more well received in 6-12 months. Pokken doesn't seem "direct" worthy though.

EA just confirmed FIFA on Switch is FIFA 18. In other news, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 doesn't seem to be coming to Switch.

@JaxonH Thanks. I already have a 30,000 (It works pretty well...it just has some minor annoyances and I REALLY don't know why Lego was still draining the battery. Unless somehow it stopped charging for a while....maybe the cable jiggled loose, but seems unlikely (I'm using the nice red Anker heavy duty USB-C 2.0 cables....very sturdy and a solid connection.) And the slow recharge so far hasn't presented a problem....it still charges overnight...but it's just one of those annoying things.

If it's smaller than average (and the aluminum build seems nice) I think I'll go for it. For the "BIG" power I have the other one, so this is the "fast power" and a little bigger than I probably needed/wanted. That Aukey looks like it's an even thicker brick than my iMuto.

For the 2800, do you have to hit the round power switch to turn on USB-C like it says? Does it turn off automatically (and does it turn on automatically ever or if you forget to hit the button, you'll just drain your Switch? Thats one nice thing on the iMuto, it's auto-on when it senses a connection.

And yeah, it's the one with PD, that says for Swtich.....and has your review on the page, so I'm pretty sure it's the right one

@Grumblevolcano Not that I care about FIFA even slightly but, YES! That's great news for Switch! sigh, Capcom.... Even EA can bring their real games and Capcom denies us Mega Man once again..... That's ok, we got a 25 year old version of Street Fighter....but none of it matters because Monster Hunter XX.

The skins never gave me trouble on the original 3DS...Only problem is that, when removing them, it felt like it was going to rip the system apart. lol
