@Heavyarms55 Seems I spoke too soon. I'm still getting overwhelmed by the number and strength of the enemy. I'll try your strategy and see how it goes. I can see why a lot of people are complaining about the difficulty. I've finished the Advanced Wars games, and most of the Fire Emblem games too. This seems harder than all of them.

@Heavyarms55 Honestly I feel it's less that Nuru's power is OP and more that dragons are OP. I tried Mercia's arcade mode on normal and it was really easy on the maps with towers as you could just build a dragon army and destroy the boss or enemy base very quickly.

The AI has certainly been better than it was in Advance Wars, at least in some regards. That said, I haven't had trouble yet. I just finished Act 3 Side 1 which has been mentioned here couple time already. Took me 21 turns, lost 14 units, got an S rank.

There's one really small nitpick I have with the game. It took me couple of days to even notice that the game had ranking other than the 3 stars. I always skipped the victory animation since I didn't expect it to skip the screen with the results too. I'd prefer it to just skip the victory text and then stop at the results like other games do.

It's its, not it's.

Hey all, I created a map and wanted to see if anyone wanted to download and try it. Would love to hear any feedback for changes as well. It is a small 1v1 map with ground and air units. The code is MBR33KDS. Would love to play a vs. match on it with one or more of you as well!

Okay I found what I don't like in this game. When you open the menu on an empty tile, the cursor ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT start on the "end turn" button. I nearly ruined things for myself after an hour into Act 4 Mission 2. Thankfully I was more than halfway into my turn so it didn't hurt me too badly. But seriously, that should not be a thing!

@Kanbei I will try it either tonight or this weekend!

@Grandiajet I don't know about Fire Emblem. There are some brutally hard levels in the GBA Fire Emblem games. Especially some of the things you need to do to unlock all the characters and/or the secret missions. Then again, I am only on act 4. Anyway, don't take the fight to the border guards at first. Play to conquer only your side of the board, defend each of the 3 gates with archers and trebuchets then, once you manage to hold them back, focus your attack through the south, while keeping the middle and north areas defended on your side. Once the enemy focuses on your southern invasion, send a couple units in via the north and force them to divide their defense. If you can take the barracks on their southern portion and one or two towns you win. You'll have both a territory and money advantage.

@Heavyarms55 I did the level on the next try. The one after that was a lot easier.

On you point about the "end turn" button- That's happened to me too. I though the cursor was on one of my units and it wasn't, and I lost the turn.

Does anyone else find the cursor jumps around a bit sometimes?

Grandiajet

Heavyarms55

@Grandiajet I don't really find that the cursor jumps, but sometimes I do think it is on a unit when it is actually on an adjacent tile. I blame that mostly on my impatience. Sometimes I am thinking a few moves ahead and try doing each move too quickly. It's that same impatience that resulted in my skipping a turn like I did. But I still hold that the cursor shouldn't start on the end turn button in the menu...

@Grandiajet What bothers me is that if you press the joystick in any direction while the map animation is taking place, your cursor is moving but you just can't see it until the animation ends and it pops up somewhere. I'm guessing this will be one of the fixes in an upcoming patch.

@Kanbei That might be what I've experienced. I hope they patch it out.

@aesz I agree with some of your points. I think the scenarios felt too much like a puzzle as well. The one Heaveyarms55 helped me with above seemed like it only had one solution. Strategy games should be about more than that. I also do think it should have started off a bit slower with the difficulty. The counter-intuitive damage was an issue for me to start with too.

About healing units from towns etc: It comes in more later when the maps are larger and you can't replace units quickly. It can be great to park a long-range unit next to a town.

I have also ended one turn because I clicked wrong tile. And I don't really like how the cursor moves while the map is still locked.

The chapters have been short enough that I can just quickly play one mission a day. I hope it stays that way for the most part. Act 3 Side 1 took a bit longer but it was a side mission so I guess it might be an exception.

It's its, not it's.

What i like most in this game is replayability. If mission feels too difficult (which to be excepted cause this different from Advance Wars which is a good thing, what is different had been mentioned here already) you can lower the difficulty from settings, later you can replay those when this game come enough familiar. : )

It all started from Game&Watch.

I dislike the fact that replenishing units is almost never a good idea. It is really costly and weakens the village.

This might be why you are losing. Not to be rude, but it's a risk/reward you have to balance, trust me, healing a unit near the front line is much better than building a replacement on the other side of the map. Sometimes weakening one of your villages is actually a good idea. As it provides tempting bait for the AI. On many occasions I've let them take out my village and then slaughtered their forces who walked into range of mine.

As to your comments about the ranking system, I do kinda agree there. I don't like that speed is the primary factor. I've had missions where I wiped out 5 times(literally!) as many units as I lost myself and still gotten really low ranks because I took it slow.

However I think your memory might be skewed about Advance Wars play time, I remember missions in those games lasting me just as long and longer than the missions I've played in Wargroove thus far. Currently in Act 4.

@aesz I must say I second this. I still play a lot of Advance Wars, both vs. AI and a human opponent and when you get into a war of attrition over territory and cities, battles can really grind on and on. I find the fact that you can win by killing the Commander and the fact that you can take down and capture buildings in a single turn results in much shorter battles than AW.

@Heavyarms55 thanks for checking out my map! I will set up a match and post the code if you want to play at all this weekend.

@Kanbei Do you have Discord? It would make setting up a match much easier if we could talk in real time.
