@Tsurii That fits with the impression we got from the story trailer... Zelda's English voice actress is just not convincing enough. I didn't like the German story trailer either but I might switch eventually. Or maybe I'll try the Dutch and Spanish ones...
@GoronBrudda No I don't have that problem, because I only buy games digitally. The game is actually installed already, just waiting for the update data download to finish and install it... @jump Honestly, I couldn't wait for shipment of the physical copy to arrive like you guys. I would just buy it from the eshop (or from a key shop like I did).
@emaan Why wait for the Switch when you can play BotW right now? From what we've heard, both versions won't be that different, so I'd opt for enjoying the game right now instead of waiting until you have a Switch.
Also - at least in Europe - the Wii U version is slightly cheaper. I've only paid 56,25âŦ.
Actually, my pre-ordered Switch will arrive tomorrow but so far I bought BotW only for Wii U because I'm not sure whether I'll keep the Switch but I definitely don't want to wait any longer. I've been waiting for years and I want to finally jump right into the next LoZ adventure.
I am undecided if I should get the game on Wii U or buy it along with the Switch (I should have planned ahead), but I'm leaning towards buying it on Wii U... Now that it's this close to launch I just can't handle not having it.
I sincerely hope my preorder comes later next week... I'll be away for the weekend and don't want the pain of it being delivered without anyone to receive it.
Anyone else had their Amazon Wii U version 'delayed' until Monday? (Email sent at 2:09am this morning!) I'm worried that it isn't actually coming out physically on Wii U. Anyone seen a copy? Or know which shops would be stocking it today? Thanks
@Diggler I can assure you that they didn't do that..lol
Unless I dreamed playing it on Wii U that is. You never know.
Ha thanks. Amazon were so convincing when telling me today is definitely not the release date (with the logic that if they don't have any in stock, it can't be)! They have also been very unhelpful in sorting out when I will get it and why it's been delayed. Might have something to do with people using that ÂŖ10 code to get it cheap. Anyone know the cheapest in-store price? Argos? Game? Thanks
Guys, I've been playing this for hours, and I'm not even close to getting off the Great Plateau. Granted, I've been taking my sweet-bass time learning how to cook food, and trying to fight bokoblins without any weapons.

I'm taking the opposite approach and thinking about the challenge of speed running with the game, I'm going for 5 mins or die trying!!!
@Nicolai What's your early impressions?I just caved in there and bought it digitally for Wii U with some gift cards, just waiting on the download code being sent to me from Amazon.I could and should have waited to play it on Switch but I feared spoilers.I don't think the differences between them are enough to make me have any regrets playing it first on Wii U.I'll wait for the DLC to arrive and purchase the Switch version then.I'll probably be tempted to play through it again by then as well
I know this is a tired and old impression, but I'll say it anyway. I'm traversing through the Great Plateau, and I'm feeling that even this 1% of the game is enough of a game. Get rid of any concerns about the world being too small, or too empty.
The shrines are insultingly easy right now, but I'm sure that will change.
A lot of this game is inventory management; so far, I feel like I'm getting the hang of it. I was initially worried about getting overwhelmed with the amount of items to keep track of, like I get with Pokemon. At least at the moment, the number I can have of each thing is pretty limiting, which means I don't have to keep track of too many items and weapons.
Anyone with the wii u version, how do I use my pro controller, I know you are able to use it. But when I turn my pro controller on it won't move link I can only use game pad. Anyone know how???
@Tsurii Yeah I saw your post about that and after having played it for several hours, I have to say I really dislike the English VA for Zelda. I still prefer to play the game in English (just because I'm used to it) but I might switch the language eventually. @Nicolai I could already leave the Great Plateau, but there's just so much to do and explore that I couldn't make it so far. ^^ Also I agree on the scope of the game and especially on the shrines: they're way to easy! @jump Lol, but that's no fun (or is it?). ^^ @OorWullie Well I gotta say, I'm happy I bought the Wii U version. It doesn't look less gorgeous than the most recent Switch videos we saw. It has these rare occasions (I think it has to do with the lighting effects of the grass) where the framerate dips for 1-2 seconds, just as the Switch version. It probably has a slightly lower draw distance (or maybe not?) but to be honest, I haven't noticed it even once. Either the draw distance is just fine or I'm too immersed in the game.
So to anyone who is unsure which version to get (like I was): If you don't have a Switch already, get the Wii U version. From what I can tell, there is no real upside to it.
Yes, the resolution is supposed to be slightly higher (but maybe it has more/longer framerate dips?) and the audio a bit better, but I really like the audio so far, so no complaint from me on both fronts.
The one thing that really annoys me is that you can't freely change the controls (you can only swap 'jump' and 'put back'). I've often hit the wrong button - e.g. melee attack on a horse - and got hit/killed by enemies or hit my own horse by accident. Because some of the buttons just don't feel natural for their assigned function, some even feel misplaced in my opinion.
It would be really great if there was a patch to set up the controls freely...
Oh no wait, there's a second thing that annoys me: The non-usage of the Gamepad screen. I often looked down instinctively when I opened the map or the inventory and honestly, I don't understand why I have to disrupt my immersion into this beautiful game every time I open the menus. I guess they made it so that the Switch doesn't look bad but the way they're ignoring the Gamepad screen is almost criminal...
But just to be clear, this is probably the best game ever, I already love it.
Just redeemed some gold coins for the "Mini Guide" on MyNintendo for 10 gold points.I'm going to wait to check out any more than the first few pages though as I've already seen a couple of new screens I hadn't seen before. It looks rather nice on my phone though and will be something to browse through when I'm away from the game. There's 25 pages in all.
It's quite a good idea this from Nintendo actually.Hopefully they'll do do the same with all their big titles from now Plus it's something to actually spend some gold on.

Thanks for mentioning it! I would've probably missed it otherwise. Although so far I feel like I'm doing fine without any guide. I'll probably double-check every area later on anyway. ^^
Some small geographical remarks that might be a spoiler to some: The cutscenes directly reference the final events of Skyward Sword. Apparently they happened 10000 years prior to Breath of the Wild. Also, the Temple of Time instantly reminded me of its counterpart from Ocarina of Time. Kakariko Village also feels familiar, although it strangely reminds me of Kokiri Forest from Ocarina of Time... all in all, Nintendo did great to transplant Hyrule's established geography into this enormous open world.
