This game looks like Twilight Princess with newer graphics, a somewhat more realistic world, and more bells and whistles, which is why I know it'll be good. It already avoided the fatal error Skyward Sword made of making it's overworld a maze devoid of exploration or expanse.
And the deku leaf from wind waker in an open world!?!? NO HYPE SURPASSES THIS!!!
The only thing I didn't like about Twilight Princess was the brown, bloom and low quality textures. Other than that I never understood why so many people disliked it. Also I'm kinda sick of the way opinions about Zelda games change wildly over time.
Maybe it's Nintendo's "same generation hypothesis" at play, where "peak nostalgia" is about stuff that's around 15 years old. When people really hated Twilight Princess it was when they were comparing it to Ocarina of Time constantly. If the "same generation hypothesis" is right then we're starting to move beyond that now, they're starting to not look at OoT as being the holy grail of Zeldas to the extent that they did a couple of years ago. So in that context Twilight Princess start to win out a bit more given it's one of only two Zeldas (so far) where you're riding Epona across Hyrule field.
Anyways, this is looking like something between Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess but just massive. Like what Skyward Sword would have been if it was on the ground and didn't have the Wii's technical limitations. So I'm more than happy because those are easily two of my favourite 3D Zeldas.
@skywake I didn't like the brown, muddy textures either. I also didn't like the nonsensical, super convoluted story, the boring wolf parts and the huge, but completely empty landscape that dragged on for miles. I haven't been able to finish it after many attempts.
I may be alone here, but I don't see any bit of Twilight Princess's or Skyward Sword's graphics in this at all, apart from the older Link and the realistic way Epona gallops. If anything, I see influence from Wind Waker HD, especially with the sunset/sunrise, the use of bright solid colors, the blue shirt, and the design on the shirt and cloak. I mean, Skyward Sword was colorful, but not in the way Wind Waker was.
I couldn't believe for a second they would go backwards on the music. I say fully orchestrated.
It'll be just like Skyward Sword - fully orchestrated pieces for key themes and high quality MIDI for the rest of the score. This formula has worked in Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 and Super Mario 3D World.
Amen to this.
I'm a huge Zelda fan, but I can't stand the flip-flop nature of some of the folks in the fanbase.
"Wind Waker sucks, we want a mature looking Zelda"
Twilight Princess comes out - "this sucks, Wind Waker was awesome"
So they combine the two and make Skyward Sword - "this sucks, WW and TP were better"
WHAT DO YOU WANT!? Just be happy you get a consistently good product each time.
I really believe that Skyward Sword was a genuinely flawed, if decent, game, beyond any Zelda cycle influence. Every other 3D game has been of similar high quality (the technology of the time considered).
We should get back to talking about Zelda U though...
It's been a while since I played it but Twilight Princess is probably my favorite zelda game. This is without playing Skyward Sword which I would Imagine would easily fall into my top three.
Anyone else planning to play through every mainline Zelda game for the lead too Zelda WIi U?

I think the IGN jokes are a bit stale now. And by "a bit", I mean they are quite annoying now
They were never funny. For Nintendo fans, it's biting the hand that feeds you, as IGN is the highest profile review site, and they happen to be one of the most pro-Nintendo ones too.

The IGN Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast has been one of the best Nintendo podcasts for the last two years. The current episodes about Dennis Dyack and the making of rouge squadren were too good.

I liked the episode prior to Thanksgiving. They actually talked about the review process and the subjectivity of the scores they gave. They didn't necessarily agree with "Too much water", but they respected the reviewer's experiences and opinions on the game. We also got to see what they thought of scores they regretted giving.

So seeing Link with the blue garb on do you guys think that this is earlier in the game or will link have custom clothing. In the prior three Zelda games link has a a different garb for the into of the game before he gets the Iconic green Tunic. However in the gameplay footage he has the blue tunic in an open world and while in a dugeon. I wonder if has anything to do with link having the bow.

Seriously, I hope this game has a LOT of items. In SS, you had dungeons, without items, or they just upgraded them. I really hated that. In Minish Cap you had much more items, I hope this game is like that. I also hope the Skills are back. Man, those were awesome in TP and Minish Cap!
Upgrading system should return. It was really fun to do with me and my bro. Going on adventure and hunting those items down.
