Can you imagine if we can fish while riding a raft downriver? Too cool. And if you're goin' along and accidentally hook a Zora by the ear, they all turn hostile, start boarding your raft, you start charging your spin attack and—
@Haru17 From the very beginnitng I believe.. Couple of months ago I think. Forums were pretty empty and barren, so I kinda stopped visiting them. Looked today and I found that there's more people, so I think I'll visit it on a more regular base from now.
@Haru17 Yup, GT (and now EZA) was and is pretty much the only podcast I listened to on a regular basis, because they don't take themselves too seriously and they're pretty funny from time to time. So I joined the forums as soon as they got them up and running. At least that means we'll have twice as much time to talk about the non-existent Zelda news. Too bad that zero times two is still zero..
@Meowpheel Oh, I'm too invested to leave these forums for a good while. Gametrailers and their remnants are still a hella better news website than Nintendo Life, though.
Not sure if off topic, but... I've got this huge itch to play this game after watching the GameExplain analysis. So, I was wondering what games you guys have been playing and/or recommend to scratch that itch while waiting for BotW to get here. I've been considering things like the classic Zeldas on 3DS and maybe Skyward Sword, but maybe there are other games that are better at delivering that sense of grand-scale exploration.
@TromboneGamer Well, the obvious answer outside of the series is Skyrim, the new version of which comes out at the end of October. That's very much an exploration-based first person RPG, though. It doesn't work as a third person game nor an action game.
Okami and Beyond Good & Evil are both Zelda-likes, though I have not played the later. Okami at least will play if you only have a Wii U (Wii disc).
@Haru17 I played a few hours of Okami on Wii before I (somewhat regrettably) traded it in because I knew I wanted the HD version on the Playstation store. I do have Okami HD and I really should get around to playing it, but that means starting a new playthrough and I don't know if I want to tread through the beginning of the game again. As far as Beyond Good and Evil I played the demo for the HD port on PS3 and I wasn't particularly impressed, but I'll probably give it a go at some point anyway. When it comes to Skyrim though, I personally don't care for the games' world and while many people enjoy it there are a lot of people who found it lacking in comparison to oblivion as well, and as you said it's not much of an action game (when it comes to exploring that's obviously not the focus, but I'm sure the combat in BotW will be marginally more exciting).
@Meowpheel Not a bad pick as it's obviously the greatest inspiration for BotW. I've played maybe halfway through it on 3DS VC. but the last time I touched the game was probably well over a year ago, maybe even over two years ago. Unfortunately I'm not in the mood to grind it to completion atm and I'd say I've 'explored' plenty of the game. Boy do I sound hard to please right now, but even if I I don't find a definitive 'must play' for me in these posts it's nice to read about what everyone's playing. It's good BotW is so enticing, but the relatively 'long' wait can be painful.
@TromboneGamer Oh, I'm sure the combat in Breath will be leagues more exciting than Skyrim's, though who can say about the level design. However, that game does have a tree you can cross a ravine with. It's only the one, though
Anyway, definitely play Okami. It's a bit of a slog in part at the beginning (on replay anyway), but it's also one of those games that just doesn't stop giving. The funny thing about the PS3 "remaster" is that, despite the raise in resolution, they didn't raise the draw distance to suit that clarity. As a result there's a lot of pop in and the game doesn't really look better at all ¯(ăƒ„)/¯
The mountain guardian and flying city are basically the only acute bosses / dungeons / towns we know of thus far. Unless you count Hyrule Castle, but that's just kind of potato.
Can I also say that I love that point of view? It transitions from a green grassy meadow with trees to a craggy evil-looking volcano with that ominous cloud hanging above it. Amazing.
