Because even when the 4 launched, the PS3 still had a solid year of consistent games coming to it? It's not hard to see why this is not at all comparable to the current wii u - NX situation.

Nintendo also had a similar software abandonment with the wii and its last two years.

Nintendo has had a hard time with content throughput for a while now. Seems like they may finally have an answer with the NX... Although, without someone at super genius level around like Iwata to work out the kinks, there might be a wrench in Nintendos wonder project.

@Octane,

You may be right. That might be a lot of work!

"I don't think this will happen but we can be pretty sure that the NX will released BEFORE the WiiU version like they did with Zelda TP ten years before"

But what was it, a month? I can live with that. Keep in mind though that if Nintendo says NX releases in March, they could technically mean March 31. They always take it VERY broad.

However, Nintendo didn't say it would be a NX launch-title (it does make sense, but when did Nintendo make sense the last time?). If we are very unlucky, they turn it in a 2017 holiday title (November/December). So that would mean another year waiting for nothing, since I am pretty sure the game is completed for quite some time now!

As for the Wii u version: If it doesn't get cancelled, then it may go straight to download. I mean: In Japan you couldn't even get the gamecube version of Twilight princess in your local shop, and we all know how fond Nintendo is of digital nowadays.

@Henmii: Not sure who you're quoting, that wasn't me! However, Twilight Princess GCN didn't came a month later, it was one week later than the Wii version, only in the US it came two weeks later.

As Octane said, for TP is was only one or two weeks. I personally can live with it but it means that you aren't allowed to visit this site at this week There will be spoilers everywhere.

I am very sure that I will only buy the WiiU version.

uhm, imagine not buying an nx because you were able to play one of its key games early. Zelda U will be on NX first as it is a system seller and nx is what nintendo wants to sell. Wii U is the one I expect to be late.

Zelda U will sell a million... just like Zelda NX.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

That would be really really really really bad.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

@Chandlero and @Octane,

1 or weeks is even less painful. I can live with that!

Lol, yeah you are right!

Wich version do I buy? At this moment it depends on the NX version's benefits and if the NX is worth buying or not. At the moment I think for me the only sensible option is the Wii u version!

I'll probably get the Wii U version because Twilight Princess and some other games taught me that cross gen games to correspond with system launch windows are best on the console that the game was initially developed for.

I wonder if Zelda U would be open-world like Xenoblade Chronices or something

@Gamelon117:
That's pretty much already confirmed.

Gamelon117

@Dezzy: I know that, but there was some controversy on a gamexplain video on whether Zelda U would be open world, you should watch it they set up really intruiging points.

@Gamelon117:

Well it's partly just the fact that there is no standard definition of "open world". Nearly every definition you give you can poke holes in and find exceptions that people instinctively dislike.

I think it'll probably be quite similar to Xenoblade X in its openness though. I worry that that leads to worse storytelling but hopefully they'll be able to figure it out.
I'm also not sure how that can work with Zelda. It works generally with RPGs because you've essentially got unlimited amount of potential character levelling to do, so that random exploration is always beneficial. That's not really true in Zelda games. You can be exploring for about 20 minutes in a Zelda game and not progress at all. Which kind of breaks the incentive structure a bit.

Open world + "western flavour" makes me think we'll be seeing something like The Division / Destiny / Witcher 3 / Fallout 4.

They all do the RPG levelling thing though don't they?

Be ready to grind for some hours to level up your grass cutting skill. It'll be needed in many sidequests.

To be honest I won't mind if they make upgrades more difficult. The shield thing in SS was a great step in the right direction. It really made you earn the hylian shield instead of just cutting grass for 10 minutes outside the shop to afford it from Malo or whoever.

If they did the same with the tunics and possibly even items, I'd be all for it.

Octane

@Operative: Make it 10 hours of grass cutting!

Thinking about the Hylian Shield, how come that thing exists when Hyrule wasn't even a thing yet?
