Hmm, I don't think Zelda really needs dungeon revamping. SS was sort of disappointing in it's dungeons, but other than that the series does dungeon puzzles pretty well.

So, he essentially wants to create a more grander scale of puzzle-solving, one that is more cohesive and player-driven. That's how I take it.

I don't think that's what Aonuma is talking about. I think he wants to have more puzzle solving elements not only in a dungeon, but outside of it in the overworld as well.

I took it as wanting to build on skyward's sword's idea that you have puzzle's outside of dungeons. Also I expect to see the multiple item to get around the world and dungeons from ALBW in this game.

I was pretty happy with the more environment-themed puzzles of Link Between Worlds, to be honest. Felt less like busywork and more like I was actually traversing an area in creative and unconventional ways. Perhaps physics-themed puzzles would be a good change?

The puzzle solving is like 50% of the game. If he dumbs down the puzzles or removes a good deal of them I'll be extremely disappointed. What we need is more weapon or item related puzzles throughout as opposed to just mostly the one you just picked up or in the latest games case the one weapon that seem to solve all to most of the puzzles.

I'm actually kinda against having the overworld be more like dungeons, because we already have the dungeons being more like dungeons. The overworld should be more like an overworld because then it isn't just more dungeon. Of course it worked fine in Skyward Sword because a good chunk of it was the same as most linear non-dungeons areas in Zelda games anyway, just with some changes here or there. But I wouldn't want them to go too far with that idea because variety is one of the reasons Zelda games work so well.

Of course I feel its a non-issue because there's basically no way they could make even a majority of an open world overworld into a dungeon-lite anyway.

One of the most interesting ideas I've heard about the non-linear ideas is that maybe they'll make it so the game lacks you trying to figure out how to get to an area only to realize after a while that you can't. It would be cool if with enough thought and effort you can get to areas you aren't supposed to get to yet. And like not tricks but intentionally designed that way. I'd probably use Deus Ex or something similar as an example of how to pull of non-linear gameplay like that.

I'm honestly expecting a Quest system, which I'd approve of if done right.

Aonuma wants to rethink puzzle-solving in Zelda U:

Schreier: I just have to slip in one question that a lot of people are wondering—Mr. Aonuma, you’ve talked a lot about changing traditions and shifting away from the series formulas. Can you give me one example of a tradition that people are familiar with in Zelda that you’ve changed in a big way for the new Zelda that you’re working on for next year?

Aonuma: So you know we’ve talked a little bit today about the puzzle-solving element in Zelda, and how that’s kinda taken a different shape in Hyrule Warriors. But I think people have come to just assume that puzzle-solving will exist in a Zelda game, and I kinda wanna change that, maybe turn it on its ear.

As a player progresses through any game, they’re making choices. They’re making hopefully logical choices to progress them in the game. And when I hear ‘puzzle solving’ I think of like moving blocks so that a door opens or something like that. But I feel like making those logical choices and taking information that you received previously and making decisions based on that can also be a sort of puzzle-solving. So I wanna kinda rethink or maybe reconstruct the idea of puzzle-solving within the Zelda universe.

If there is anything I think this new zelda should have its more weapons like imagine this you have a giant forest temple so you get an axe and use it for some lumberjack puzzles and a tree/plant base boss. Some more swords would be nice like another two handed sword (i.e: Biggoron sword, Great Fairy sword, Double helix sword). they could really go all out with weapons and making rupees and stores generally more important also some different armour would be cool like a complete suit of knight armour and maybe some stealthy robes, the the basic this shirt protects you from fire and this one lets you breathe underwater.

Oh and I'm new to this site and forum thing in general. hows it going!

Capcom at E3: Guys we're sorry about how we've been treating Mega Man so we're gonna make it up to you by releasing the Mega Man Cancelled Collection with all the titles we cancelled in the condition they we're in just before we pulled the plug. Now who wants Street Fighter X Monster Hunter?

I agree! Zelda was always that cool combination of puzzles and battles. If they remove the puzzles, then I think I can also remove Zelda as my favorite franchise! If they remove the puzzles, I am done with it.

I'm curious, how do you feel about ALBW? That game had some of the worst puzzles i've seen in the franchise.

Blue blue.

I want less puzzle solving, personally. Or at least good puzzles that don't feel like a chore but still stimulate the mind. I can't think of a Zelda game where the puzzles were actually worth doing.

I thought Twilight Princess has/had the best dungeon design and that goes for the puzzles as well.

My word, guys you all are overreacting.

Changing puzzle solving does not mean removing it! Didn't any of you watch the Digital Event? Aonuma said he wanted to expand the scope of it.

Yeah, I'd like other elements to take up more of the game. I'd love less dungeons, and more world (city would be wonderful) quests.
I'm also hoping we get to ride on and improve advancements made in Skyward Sword, and make the hero of time more of a jerk.

So basically this game will have Link vs. giant robots + light saber arrows? ULTRA HYPE COMBO. nuff said.

Yeah, I was going to say that, but tbh, I can't remember any of the dungeons outside of the Fire one, the water one, and the one where you use that wand thing to move statues. The fire dungeon was a little annoying, and the water one I think was pretty bad. The wand one was pretty fun, though.

Oh you mean the Goron mines, Lakebed temple and temple of time with the dominion rod. But the only bad one was the snow peak ruins in my opinion.

My favorite was the one you had to use the anti gravity boots. Yeah it's been what 7 years since I played it so I don't remember much either but do remember the dungeons as a whole the best in the series. The weapons were also the best imo!

Well, technically those were the Iron Boots, and the walls and ceiling that you walked on were magnetic, but still, that was a very neat concept!

Also, the Spinner and Dominion Rod get honorable mentions.
