@DarthNocturnal I'm probably going to double dip eventually, so this comes at the right time for me.

That's why you don't pre-order DLC (or anything for that matter)

I think that's a risk people should know that they take when pre ordering DLC. Eventually it will be put into a GOTY edition

Are there any truths to this game being repetitive and boring? I bought a Switch with Odyssey, but want another game, though I've heard that all dungeons look the same and the combat is repetitive. Is that just an exaggeration? For reference, I thought Skyrim was way too repetitive.

If you thought Skyrim was repetitive, I would wager you'd find similar issues with BOTW. of course, never know till you try I suppose

Thanks, I'll probably buy something else.

@Agriculture Depends on who you ask. I say there's a lot of repetition. The game was about 100 hours for me, but after about 20 hours I had pretty much seen it all.

@Agriculture They look the same in terms of aesthetic, but the puzzles themselves are all different.

I personally would say it's worth buying at full price for most people, but if you thought Skyrim was repetitive, you might have similar issues with this game. Would you mind elaborating on what you thought was repetitive about Skyrim?

The combat just consisted of bashing people with a sword over and over, or shooting arrow after arrow in them and waiting for the sneak eye to come back. I enjoyed Fallout 4 way more, since you are able to use tactics more. I will probably buy Breath of the Wild sooner or later, but not at full price.

Can you finish the main story in 20 hours? I'm wondering because I don't want games that take too long to finish.

Ah, I see. Yeah, combat wasn't one of the games strong suits. I found it pretty fun as a mage or stealth character, but that's just me.

I will say that the combat in Zelda is quite a bit better than the combat in Skyrim. Once you've fought all the baddies and tried all the weapons, it can get a little stale, but there are a lot of ways to take out enemies in this game, considering all the different weapons, abilities you get, and being able to use the environment against them. The combat wasn't anything mindblowingly awesome, but I thought it was perfectly serviceable for the game.

However, if combat is the main thing you're interested in, you should probably consider something like Dark Souls or Monster Hunter rather than Zelda. That's never been what the series is focused on.

Well, except for Skyward Sword, at least. That game's main thing was combat, and I'll miss it

@Agriculture Well, you can fight the final boss after you've left the tutorial area. So yeah, you probably can. There isn't a whole lot of mandatory story. There are four dungeons with their own story lines which are optional, but highly recommended. You can complete those in any order. The rest is mainly optional stuff. You search for shrines, small puzzle dungeons, beat them and gain hearts and stamina until you think you're strong enough to face the final boss. That could be after 10 hours, or after 80-100 hours if you want to complete every shrine and explore everything.

It's just that the enemy variety is lacking, and most of them are reskins of the same 10 enemies (3 of them are very common), and they're everywhere. Same with the puzzles. So for me exploration ended when I realised another part of the map would have the same enemies and same puzzles, but with a different backdrop. That's what I meant with repetitive, the game became very predictable after a while.

Anyway, the first 20 hours or so were pretty fun though.

Not forgetting that it's the greatest adventure game ever made, of course...

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Depends how big a game you're looking for.

If you want a 40 hour playthrough, it won't be repetitive. If you want something that compares to Skyrim or the Witcher 3 (i.e over 100 hours), it will get very repetitive.

I'd wait for the 2nd DLC to come out. Hopefully they'll work that into the game so you can do it whilst you're out there finishing the shrines. That'll help give the game a longer playtime.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

meleebrawler

@Dezzy I'm hoping you don't need a completed file just to play the DLC on account of it being a sequel.

Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.

Hoping it addresses some of the complaints from the main game

@Agriculture If you do get the game, I recommend getting all the memories before you fight the final boss if you want to see the entire story and get the true ending. If you don't feel like it though, that's fine.
