I caved today and bought the official collectors edition guide. I'm avoiding the walk through but it has some great tips and information in it and the art work is beautiful.

I think I'm mostly done with the game at this point. I think I'm just gonna go on a rabbit hunt for the last shrines for the good ending (which I already saw). Overall, I feel I'm in a good enough position to say that I've enjoyed the game.

Minor Issues:
>The controls are a bit clunky at times.
>Several of the characters are underdeveloped, and needlessly cliche (except maybe Zelda).
>It's annoying that you can only board horses, despite being given the option to mount them (more of a pet peeve than anything)
>The Frame Rate drops were terrible at several points. With it being absolutely awful in the Korok Forest. It happened quite frequently at the later points.
>The weather system was annoying a lot of the time. Especially with the whole rain and climbing thing.

Main Issues
>The game became pretty repetitive later on. The towers, shrines, environments and even to an extent towns became too samey for me.
>The main bosses are awful.
>The 'dungeons' are disappointing and far too brief.
>Lack of significant enemy variety.
>I'm not a fan of weapon durability systems, and while I can stand how the game uses it. I found it lackluster and dull.

@Meowpheel I actually really disagree. Without fully remapable buttons, it makes sense to have X, the jump button, be "up" and B, the let go and sprint along the ground button, be "down."

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Octane

The ''jump'' button has been all over the place in games, especially not-platformers, so I don't really care. I can get used to them. TLG had jump on triangle, so I just went in TLG mode when I started Zelda.

Welp I just beaten the game, made sure I was ready with loads of hearts, best foods, etc etc, now to complete the game which will no doubt take a while longer.

I feel it plays better with jump on b and cancel on x.

Anyway I found a lava talus. The fight went somewhat like this...

Gets punched, falls on lava. Respawns right there again. Repeat until game over.

I'm pretty sure the Lynel 'fight' is meant to be your first stealth section. Don't all the NPCs specifically state that it's brutally powerful and should be given a wide berth? The whole plateau's geography is shaped such that the Link always has somewhere to hide and can stealthily circumnavigate the area on the opposite side of the circle to the Mane Man - hiding behind helpfully placed rocks when necessary. All you need are the arrows. The Lynel is just there to make things interesting. I'm amazed anyone managed to beat it that early on.

On a similar note, but with more of a banana flavour, I successfully managed to wipe out every enemy in the Yiga base by sneak-striking them. It wasn't really necessary, but it got me loads of bananas (I finished with 70), and bananas mean more attack power, and attack power means beating more Lynels! The whole Yiga base thing was awesome. In fact, the whole Gerudo thing was awesome, and hilarious. Aah man... so good. : ) Vaguely planning on heading off to Death Mountain next, if possible. Some armour upgrades due before that.

I'd like to find the third Fairy Fountain, but this game is too magical to simply Google this early. Until I beat the main story, I don't want to consult the Oracle G at all. I'll accept hints and tips from individuals, but I think Google should only really be used for filling in the gaps after completing the game, or if you're absolutely dead stuck. IMO Googling is to Zelda as the White Tanooki Suit is to Mario; if not cheating, then a massive helping hand. It's an action-adventure-puzzle game, and the only one of those that doesn't get completely nerfed by Google is the 'action' part. And there are enough action games and not many Zeldas. I suppose if you're pressed for time, it makes some sense to speed things up, but it still seems to be destroying a huge amount of the wonder and discovery that makes this game tick.

@Maxz
Your post makes a lot of sense, but I fought this guy a million times until I finally beat him lol (my first dungeon - probably had about 4 or 5 hearts)

When I first tried to beat the Lynel in Lanayru, that didn't go so well... But when I had to beat it to get Shock Arrows for the Zoras (actually, I'm not sure if I had to beat it for that quest, but whatever) it went much smoother. Then again, I brought lots of food and elixirs with attack, defense, and heart boosts, so perhaps that is key.

@rallydefault Yeah, it's pretty hardcore. I tried to fight the one in the coliseum for lols, and got OHKOed so many times that I learnt my lesson; Lynels are srs bsns. After that, I knew to avoid them at all costs, and it was some time after that I beat my first one. Then when I learned how to use Statis+, that made hunting them a lot easier. Like, a bajjilion times easier. I didn't just have to stand around and get hit by their seeminly undodgeable charges anymore.

Complaints that it's "an unfair difficulty spike too early on" are like complaints that Ganon is an unfair difficulty spike too early on - if you run straight towards the cast;e at the earliest opportunity. It's possible, and if you manage it then well done indeed, but it's not the solution the developers probably intended, even if they allowed it.

I completed the goron quest.

Man that was easy. I think I might have gone backwards in terms of quest complexity.

I have to admit that the bosses are probably all equally hard, and me having better equipment makes them feel easier. At least the dungeon was fun.

Now I'll find the one memory I'm missing and then go try my luck at beating Ganon. I think I'm missing at least one great fairy too.

Oh well it's not like beating ganon will delete my file so I'll be able to go back and complete stuff afterwards.

So @Tsurii and @Octane I worked out what that pinwheel was.

There was a seed being intermittently thrown over a tree line which was visible for a good...2 seconds that you need to shoot.

I have yet to even try a full go at a lynel or guardian. Some of the stronger variations of moblins can just about OHKO me, and I'm up to 12 hearts now. Plus I've got some rarer weapons that I want to save for the final fight.

I also found a dragon today at the top of a mountain. The thing was huge and I figured I had no chance so I just pegged it oh my map. I'm astounded by the amount of stuff I'm still discovering, and I've still barely touched at least 3 or 4 major regions.

I've gotten better at dealing with guardians. They're not too smart.

I kinda feel bad for some of them.

Of course when there's more than one at the same time it gets scary.

@Meowpheel Try taking all of them in the basement of the labyrinth out. Without the Ancient Arrows. It's like a laser disco.

@Maxz Yeah, when they play with guardians they really go ham. Even the first tower from the Switch event Treehouse stream is crazy when you finally get to it — three ruined guardians firing on you from all sides as well as one active one.

I'm still at the beginning of the game when the old man tells you to get all the treasures from the surrounding shrines…. I still haven't found them even after I thought I marked them on the map…. anyone offer me some advice?

I ended up fighting a rock monster moss and killed it but the one with the laser kills me so I run away.
