So, that supposed "install" is just a 15 minute update, luckily. After that I immediately tried the game. So far very happy! The loading wasn't long at all (maybe because of the update). In comparison: DK Tropical freeze takes ages to load. And when you die it doesn't take to long either before you can continue. I think I'll keep playing off-tv though, since on my old television the text is VERY small.
Art-style is great. I have to get used to the controls, of course. I think I did encounter some slowdone when there where 3 enemies, but it was very minimal. Happy that I bought this instead of the more expensive Switch version and super-expensive Switch. I buy the Switch a lot later, when its cheaper (and has more interesting exclusive Retail titles).
@OorWullie Well I started the download at midnight and it took until 4am until everything was installed (including the update). I had the Wii U on the whole time though. Were you finally able to start your adventure?
@Undead_terror: You're not the only one. ^^ I ordered the Archer Link, Guardian and Smash Link Amiibo. Already had bought the Wolf Link Amiibo last year just to use it with BotW. @BigBadJohn: Interesting that you would ask that, as all the fish I gathered were already lying dead in the water.
@Nicolai Wow, that sounds really awful. The Wiimotes never had such problems. Hopefully they'll patch that out. @Henmii Oh yeah, totally forgot to mention that earlier, the loading times are really fast, faster than XCX or the aforementioned DKTP. I never understood why a simple 2D platformer like tropical freeze would take so long to load. @Octane I agree (about shutting the Gamepad screen off) and they should've just used the Gamepad screen for the map and the inventory... it's really stupid not to use it that way.
@shani I'm finally playing it. It took a lot longer than the hour I predicted. I didn't realise the update was so big. I've just made it out side a few minutes ago, savored the view, climbed a tree and up the rocks behind me for a sneak peek and now I'm talking to the old man. Got a big smile on face, can't believe I'm playing it after all this time . I'm kind of glad I'm playing it on my Wii U now, a console I've really loved getting it's final hurrah. And what a game to see it out . I'll buy it again for Switch in August when the DLC arrives and play through it again in hard mode.
@OorWullie Couldn't have said it better. Have fun! @PendalinkMaybe the Pro Controller isn't supported? After all, it doesn't have motion controls. Scratch that, my Wii U Pro Controller works with the game. @blaisedinsdWhere? I just saw a single auto-save file in my game. Never mind, I just hadn't launched the game a second time since my first run. Now I see the save files in the launch menu, but when you're in-game, it only shows one save file. @Dezzy Yeah, as I mentioned earlier, the Wii U version looks and runs better than expected. in ~8 hours of play time, I encountered 2 or 3 framerate dips for 1-2 seconds each. I think it might even run slightly better than the Switch version - from what I've seen in videos adressing this issue - due to the lower resolution.

People have forgotten that the game was principally made for the Wii U. It was unlikely to be terrible, or they would've downgraded their designs for the gameworld. Less grass or whatever.
i started my game, it runs pretty good most of the time. there's small stuff i notice mostly when moving around the map more than anything. not as bad as some people made it out to be
(i've never been an fps finatic either ) I almost wish I didn't read about it so it wouldn't be on my mind to be honest
I like that this game doesn't hold your hand at all. i've died several times and i'm still in the beginning area lol
The box is bloody awful, the horrible cover aside the game pics on the back look grainy and reminds of pirate dvds you get in the pub. Inside cover poster is nice though.
I've been hearing that the Wii U version is just as good as the Switch version so I gave into the hype and bought Breath of the Wild as well.
This game is my first real experience playing an "open-world" game, I've been playing for a few hours, taking my time and... my goodness. I'm so used to being told where to go, what to do, following a set path. I've never felt so free, it's overwhelming! I've yet to die surprisingly but have been close to death several times. I love what I've played so far!
