Topic: The Battle Cats Unite (SEA English Version)

Last month on the 20th, this game was released in Japan. I kinda forgot about it until now, at first I was very interested in it. I still am, but from the trailer it seems to be a major expansion of Pop on the 3DS with new modes and all that. I really hope the energy thing is gone since it's a paid game like Pop (which kept the energy thing for some stupid reason), is there anyone out there interested in this? I always end up liking games that no one else gives a crap about, lol.

For those that don't know, Battle Cats is originally a free-to-play mobile game. It's like a...tower-defense...? You collect cats and defeat levels to make them stronger and collect new cats. I found out about it via one of Markiplier's videos from last year and I've been playing ever since. Dunno why I love it, it's...very bizarre with what cats you get. Not to mention all the weird enemies you face as well.

EDIT: Last August came the announcement of The Battle Cats unite, an English version of the game but only in the SEA (South East Asia) region. But since the Switch is Region free, why wait for a US version that may still not happen anytime soon yet? Hong Kong's eShop has the game and it's out now, to make things easier, use PlayAsia to grab 100 HKD (Hong Kong Dollars), the physical version also on Play Asia is oddly expensive for some reason.

Also, despite this game originally being a free-to-play mobile game and this version still having the Energy mechanic. I can tell you this, Cat Food (the in-game currency that you would normally grind for or pay with real money) is given to you LIKE CRAZY in this version. So don't let the Energy thing bother you, fully refilling it doesn't cost much cat food anyways. That said, there's also NO micro-transactions at all in this either, no grinding (I will say I stopped playing the Japanese version after the main story and a few of those optional...maps or whatever they're called, but never had any issues with being walled off like with the mobile version)

EDIT 2: ...Okay so it doesn't give you Cat Food like crazy, but refilling the energy is still super cheap in this version. Just don't spend the food all the time. The game does give you plenty of BOTH tickets via the minigames, though.

Is it like Kitten Squad? If you answer yes or no to this question, PETA will find you.

I remember enjoying the original at smartphone a lot, but once they added gacha I pretty much lost interest.

Is there still gacha in the paid version?

...You mean spending Food to draw a capsule? Yeah, I'm fine with it, especially with the newest update. You can exchange cats for NP that can be used to make some True Forms stronger and give them additional traits and all that.

From what I understand this paid game has FEH styles of Gacha. That sounds awful.

Either way, you still passed the PETA test.

...I don't play FEH, so I dunno, it seems fine to me. Only thing that bugged me back in Pop (main reason why I never bought it) was that the Energy mechanic was still there even though you had to pay for it. I feel like it'll be the same here, no idea why it's there if it's not free-to-play.

Yeah, those capsules Since like... some of the really cool ones are locked there T_T/

Wish they'll make it so you can get them all for free in the paid version, just have to do [A Mission] or something.

I dunno, maybe in paid versions like Pop and this game. it would become way too easy though if you could go for the best cats right from the start though.

That's true, although that's why I said need to do something for it. Maybe reaching certain stages...

Oh well. :<

Oh well, I'm fine with it, only thing I won't be fine with here is that stupid energy mechanic. lol

Lel. Energy in paid game in stupid :V

So this is pretty much the same as in the smartphone but... paid?

Joeynator3000

It was like that in the 3DS version, I really hope they remove the energy this time. It would be an insta-buy then, if they keep the energy without making it free, then I dunno. I MIGHT get it just to have the game on the TV, my hand gets sore from holding the iPad for a long time from playing it for a couple of hours. lol

...I still want to play on my TV, with normal controls, because the touch screen is kinda annoying sometimes when spawning cats.

A Switch version would need a lot of new features and a low cost to get me interested. I like the Battle Cats, my interest in it is somewhat waning, but I'm happy with my phone's version of it.

P.S. Tank Cat for Smash.

Just your everday ninja, who may also be an ace trainer.

Ugh...the energy is still there. sighs

Okay so, I looked up more info on the 3DS version to get a better idea here. Based on the video I saw and posted, apparently the game does give you food quite frequently (and XP). As for energy, in addition to waiting for 90 minutes for a full recharge, you can spend just 3 food instead of 30. So, yeah...the energy is still annoying but this seems a bit better I guess.

I'll keep an eye on this for now, some reviews on Pop did say the game wasn't that bad even with the energy thing still being there.

...So fast forward to...well, now...STILL no information on the localization. Because of this I kinda gave up waiting and imported the game. I kinda see how this game is set up now...

All 3 main story games...modes...whatever, still have one chapter each. I figured it would be similar to the mobile game where it would be 3 chapters each. Game is much easier, which is what I expected. I do wish the final bosses were a bit more challenging though, oh well.

I haven't bothered with the Stories of Legend/Event stuff yet but I guess that's where the difficulty start ramping up in this game.

That said I see what they mean by countering the free to play mechanics, the energy thing is still there but it's no longer bothersome. The game gives cat food to you like crazy, not just that, but XP and tickets as well. So you can easily refill the energy thing once you run out. It does make it super easy to grab and upgrade cats...making the levels super easy. I wished they could've balanced it there, but at least I don't have to constantly wait to continue playing anymore.

Anyone else imported? Or are you waiting for them to release it here? I'll likely buy the English version as well, whenever that happens. I mean, I did it for Monster Hunter, so why not? >_>

Now, enjoy a short clip containing the most amazing sound ever.
