Still hoping that the Super Mario Bros. stage from S64 makes it in. Was a personal favorite of mine, but yeah....holy crap Sakurai, please a take a long break from this series after this. Work on a smaller game, or something. lol

what do you guys think about the inclusion of Protoman and Bass in Megaman's smash ball attack? Does it mean you can play as these two like Daisy as alternate costume characters (in this case Megaman's)? Would be awesome - because otherwise, I don't know why they included them. Oh and by the way - maybe you can also switch to Megaman X and Starforce or Battlenetwork-Megaman.

@NintendoPete The likely reason why they were included is because they are popular characters. Also I think that their inclusion in Mega's Final Smash drastically lowers their inclusion as echoes. Because why would they be in there if they were playable?

As for other Mega Man versions, that'd be neat but given their different sizes, there's be different hitboxes and animations and the Moves wouldn't make much sense, I think.

^I'd argue Ryu is a more important part of Ninty history than say Pit or Snake. Street Fighter II on the snes was a MAJOR system seller and the franchise is still getting releases on Nintendo consoles today.

Although personally I would have preferred Cammy, M. Bison or Chun Li from Street Fighter but Ryu works much better as the face of the series.

So the stages are being redone right? Like they're not like the Star Fox 64 stages where the stage was smaller because it wasn't scaled to the new models. Saffron on here looks the same size as it was on the N64.

The N64 stages seem to be "remastered" more than redone.

Yeah, it's weird how the N64 stages haven't actually been remade, but I imagine they're just trying to pander to nostalgia.

It's great to see Eldin Bridge and Great Bay remade, though. It intrigues me to get a small glimpse of TP Hyrule and Termina remade.

Well Street Fighter started in the arcade but Street Fighter II was synonymous with the SNES, it sold more than Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, F Zero, Yoshi's Island by a huge mile. There were only a handful of games that sold more than it on the entire console and it's contribution to the success of the SNES should not be underplayed.

I completely disagree he's derivative when he plays so uniquely or perhaps you mean derivative in a different sense? I also wouldn't say Ryu is anymore out of place than say Snake who've already mentioned.

@Snaplocket Ryu has a very unique moveset, he doesn't handle at all like anyone else in the game. I am still awful at him but... yeah, he's not what I'd call derivative. And as one of the most famous characters of all time, and one with a strong albeit inconsistent history of ties to Nintendo (How many street fighters have made it to Nintendo systems? I know the number is huge), he's easily one of the most sensible third party additions. I remember Street Fighter and Nintendo being nigh-synonymous back when I was young. Now Cloud... yeah... couldn't we have had Sora? Or Chrono? Or Neku? All three of them would be far better representatives for Squeenix than Cloud.

Though I take Link as a second and dabble with the likes of Duck Hunt Duo, Marth, and a few others. I'll definitely be giving everyone a tryout to see if I can actually get a definitive list. And after seeing the plays from the Invitational with Sonic, it makes my attempts to use him look even worse than they did before.

@DarthNocturnal I would say that it would feel off to have Sora, but it's far less off to have Sora than Cloud. Sora has been featured in three Kingdom Hearts titles on Nintendo systems: Chain of Memories, RE:Coded, and Dream Drop Distance.

Cloud... Cloud has been relegated to just being a summon in Chain of Memories and maybe a character in those Theatrhythm games.

Cloud has absolutely nothing to do with Nintendo. Cloud is a huge symbol of Final Fantasy after it left Nintendo systems.

Granted, with Kingdom Hearts III coming to the Xbox One but not a Nintendo system, I can't help but feel like Sora would feel like a slap to the face as well, even though he clearly has a lot more prominent appearances on Nintendo systems than Cloud.

They have already confirmed they are unlocked with smash boxes. You get some star coins every match you play, with a bonus if you have the online sub. You can also buy a 5-pack smash boxes for 19.99. Just kidding. I hope...

@Harmonie Sonic's entire purpose of creation was to beat Nintendo, yet nobody complains about him. Because people were more excited about being able to see him and Mario fight for real instead of how non-Nintendo Sonic was.

Cloud represents Final Fantasy, period. He wasn't created to be some middle finger to Nintendo, and his immense popularity frankly transcends whoever he happens to technically belong to.

Anyway, first characters I'm gonna try are returning Melee clones Young Link and Pichu (he seems to be a punchier Pika, who I've never really appreciated for that reason) for the nostalgia, then Ridley. It looks like they've really captured the essence of his 2D boss fights, being super aggressive and hard to avoid but also pretty vulnerable to damage (with a nice nod to Prime in his mouth vulnerability on his fire breath). Pokemon Trainer also looks pretty lit with the improved switching mechanics.

Top 10 not including newcomers for me will likely be:
