I feel like the series makes too much money for Nintendo to ever drop the whole thing. Sakurai will likely recommend somebody to replace him when he finally retires for good, and the series will carry on under new direction (which hopefully won't ruin it).
I imagine the next one will be an updated port of Ultimate but they can't be done with the series for good, I just don't see it.

@Atomic77 I doubt it, honestly. They'll probably have minor stuff like fighter tweaks, and they have yet to announce a Sora amiibo, but that's it. They kept their word on being done with adding new game modes, too.

Guessing we'll get a few more waves of Spirits after 13.0.0 drops (Shin Megami Tensei V is probably a shoe-in) and some balance changes, but that's all I'm expecting
@Snatcher I guess it depends on who you play but they are extremely vulnerable to being gimped off-stage and once gimped they're gone. There's not a whole lot they can do about shields either, so long as you're rolling out of Pyra's neutral special and watching her f-smash. I haven't had too much trouble with them but with Ridley and Byleth I can out space them most of the time. It could also easily be the case that I haven't run in to any good players.
Kazuya, on the other hand — I have had zero fun playing against Kazuya, I just cannot get in. Even when I win it doesn't feel like a victory.
