Topic: Super Mario Maker 2 dilemma

Hello everyone, quick question: how is Super Mario Maker 2 now? Never played the first but now i am interested in its sequel, and i have a few questions:
1) how are the levels made by Nintendo? I heard they are 99 and quite short, but are they good or just average (something better then the last two main 2D games, that were disappointing)?
2) how are the levels mad by the community? It would be very bad if they all were super hard/cool autoplay; yes, some super hard levels are nice, and enjoying a "mario movie" at times is good, but i really meed to find plenty of good levels, not too hard nor too easy, just like if this was a classic 2D mario. Will i be disappointed?
3) are there people who made entire past games? Is there the original Super Mario Bros., or others?

PS sorry for any mistakes, i'm from Italy

1) The Nintendo-made levels are pretty good, I think they're well worth playing. Those are in the game's Story Mode.

2) There's some badly-made levels sure, but most of the levels I've played range from all right to awesome. One really nice thing about SMM2 is that you're able to like/dislike levels, depending on how you felt about it. If you're playing Endless Challenge, you can also skip levels if you don't like them.

3) I do recall people recreating past Mario games. They recently made an update that adds the World Maker, so you can essentially make your own Mario game that's up to 8 worlds long.

Also just throwing this out there, you might want to grab a stylus that's compatible with the Switch - this makes creating levels so much easier. Hope this helps.

@MarioLover92 i am not interesting in creation at all, i just want to play a 2D mario really, and this is the only thing that Nintendo released. Thanks for your reply, my only concern is with community levels: i need good ones

@jak1one No problem - SMM2 still has you covered with the sheer amount of levels uploaded to the game's servers. There's also New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, that comes with the main game, the New Super Luigi U expansion, and a bunch of challenges to try your hand at. Whichever game you pick, I think you'll have a good time.

There are a lot of bad levels in Mario Maker, but also lots of good ones to. I’ve played over 2000 levels created by the community. I’d say as a proportion about 10 percent of the levels are brilliant. So for me personally I’ve been able to play about 200 brilliant levels. The rest have ranged from terrible to quite good.

It’s definitely worth buying. Very good value game. As others have said, it’s easy to skip the bad levels.

@MarioLover92 tried new super mario bros u back on wiiu (rented from a friend, i did not buy the console) and didn't like it. Tropical freeze on switch is a real 2D platform, one of the best i've ever played. But i miss 2D mario a lot

@Bevinator that's what i want to hear. Also: is there an updated site where i can see a list of the best levels?

The levels Nintendo include are pretty good. They're not quite the same as a regular 2D Mario game though. They're more like interesting challenges that show off the variety of capabilities of the system.

I usually just pick and choose what I play on the challenge mode or physically search for people’s levels that I know. The top rated levels are often just auto levels although there are some gems to be had @jak1one

@Bevinator that's my fear: that i am going to play a lot of auto levels (i want to avoid them) and "try this level that only 0,00001% of people beat" (i want to play a few of those, but the main experience must be hard but not impossible levels)

@jak1one Oh okay, I see. Just thought I'd suggest it. And yes, DKC: Tropical Freeze is awesome.

In case you didn't know, there's a thread here on Nintendo Life where people can share the levels they've made. I made levels of my own too - just check my signature for them. Rest assured, I didn't make a single auto level (I don't like them, either).

Personally, I don't think the Nintendo-made levels for SMM2 are particularly good. There are maybe a handful of the 99 or whatever that I truly enjoyed, but the rest were just short and sometimes even oddly unintuitive.

The community side is a whole different story, though. I LOVE doing the endless runs, speed runs, popular courses, etc. This is THE Mario game, in my opinion, especially now that people can make their own worlds with number of lives, themes, and logically increasing difficulty in mind.

That being said, the number of community levels is massive, so you're definitely going to come across terrible levels. It's just going to happen, there's no way around it. I also think a lot of people get frustrated with the game because they're not as good at Mario as they think they are. The minute they come across a kaizo level, they find out they can't do it, get mad, and start saying the game is garbage (not on the forums, but check comments on NL homepage...crazy).
