...You know that free to play 3DS game where you just fought bosses the entire time? Yeah, it was okay, but it....was missing something for me...
ONLINE MULTIPLAYER

This game has it, and I got 10 months of NSO. I'm not playing online tonight because it's late, but yeah....wouldn't mind playing with some friends and maybe some random people here.

Free to start Kirby with online multiplayer.

I'm game.

Been playing this all afternoon. Just a sweet freemium game. Boss rush, online co-op, lots of flagpole achievements you can work towards with either time and/or your wallet. I've enjoyed this more than Pokemon Quest.

Free online kirby for switch = yes

Free to start? They aren't even hiding the fact that it will be a game built around micro-transactions. If this were a mobile release I could brush it off as almost tolerable. But on Switch? Heck no! I honestly hope this flops hard, not because I have anything against Kirby - I don't - but because I absolutely don't want potential success with this style of game to encourage more like it.

@Heavyarms55
I understand what you are saying but aren't most free to play titles like that anyway?

(I never spend any money on ftp anyway, aslong as they don't force a time break.)

Toy_Link

@Heavyarms55 I would assume it was at least considered decently successful already since this an enhanced port of a 3DS game with the same Free to Start model.

Yeah, it would be nice to spend some money just to get rid of the stamina and microtransactions thing, but the game is still fine. I spent very little on the 3DS version and still had fun. I only spend SOME money on free games but only if they're well made or I'm enjoying them a lot. Just to support them...I might do the same with the Switch version, I dunno yet.

While I can understand the sentiment, I also kind of can't.

A drink at a bar is more expensive than buying a couple of apples in this game, and just like that drink, you don't need it but if you feel like it, it can brighten the moment a bit.

Just don't expect a full game experience from what is basically a time filler game. It's nothing more than that, and it costs you somewhere between 0,- and 3,- depending on how quickly you want to get some good loot.

If my experience with the 3DS version and similar models like Pokémon Picross is anything to go by, you can pay nothing or very little to play the whole game if you have some patience and don't go for 100% completion. It's nothing at all like those games that keep adding new things to force you to keep spending until doomsday.

Icefoxemily

After playing for a bit while the game clearly will get a bit grindy later with the apples I do like that the 40 dollar micro transaction is basically buying the whole game. 5000 then 2000 per 12 hours. If you can't get by with that there is something wrong. So really this is how you do micotransactions. Its probably like a 15-20 dollar game most people wouldn't buy and wont put in any money to. So its double the price to pretty much buy it and thats your highest microtransaction. And I'm fairly certain ones you've bought actually just go away. At least the really cheap one did for me after using my nintendo coins to buy it. So it seems the devs didn't intend for this to break the bank. I appreciate it a lot.

Also because the community features in the game are non existent does anyone plan to make a discord so getting the challenges is actually possible instead of getting matched with level 16s on a level 23 mission you need to plat.

Just played this for the first time, seems good to me so far. I'll probably need a week or so to see if I get pay locked out of finishing it. I know I got stuck near the end of Pokemon Rumble World on 3DS, didn't have enough diamonds for extra balloons, and I stopped playing Pokemon Quest b/c you needed to grind near the end to level up to beat the final world and I don't like replaying levels.

@Heavyarms55 "to encourage more like it"

um, don't you think that ship sailed years ago on the 3DS? How many FTP games are on Switch now, half a dozen? It has Fortnite, that's really all you need for encouragement. Gems of War is full out mobile. I don't play online games so I don't know the rest, but I know Switch has some. There's no stopping free-to-start, it's a HUGE part of the industry now. So are microtransactions, DLC, season passes. Give me free-to-start any day over $60-to-start and $40 season passes every year or whatever games like Destiny 2 upsell.

To keep this thread going, a few things I'll put here now for later.

amiibo support is in the game. Not much, just crystals, but it's still version 1.0.0, so who knows, maybe we'll get skins or something later. Limited to 5 per day, so don't go unboxing them all. I don't have any Kirby related amiibo - Kirby, King Deededee, Meta Knight - so I don't know if those do anything special, just used my Zelda ones I had off the shelf for Skyrim.

I don't have NO, still got 6 characters downloaded to my hub by ringing the bell. Not sure if they are actual other people from the internet or the game created them, but they seem like actual other players.

My Nintendo Rewards still doesn't acknowledge the Switch exists. This would be the perfect game to get it on there. 100 platinum coins for 10 apple gems (gem apples?) or something. Several mobile games, why not a Switch game? Though I suppose they need to get Mario Kart Tour on there first. My Nitneod is run by 1,000 chimpanzees typing on a 1,000 typewriters.

Kirby series amiibo give 20 fragments, Kirby amiibo from the Smash series 10, and other amiibo give 5. You may also randomly get a Rare Fragment in addition to your fragments, but I don't know if this is limited to Kirby amiibo.

And NSO members can get 100 free apples from the eShop.

Played it last night for an hour or so. Nice little game, for sure, but I can only see myself putting another couple hours into at the most. Definitely won't spend a dime, though. I've never spent real money on a free-to-play game, and this one is not the Chosen One lol

I get that it's cool when you party up with people to see all the armor/weapons/stickers, etc. but to me, all these free-to-play games are so transparent and repetitive. Even if the gameplay loop is somewhat decent, I can't do more than 3-5 hours of it without going crazy.

I'm an old grump who just wants games to go back to content-packed 60-dollar-and-done affairs, which will never happen now that companies have gotten their taste of free-to-play whales who will fork out hundreds to these things just to have a GOLD shiny hat instead of a silver shiny hat. Hot dog.

Played a few hours more yesterday, and while I don't care about the money, the grind is real. Went from fighting level 6 guys at level 6 to 9, 11, 12, 15, but I'm not leveling up near that fast, just made it to level 10 after playing a few levels as hammer, which is so slow as to almost be unplayable.

I was considering 49 gold coins to level up the tree but not like this, too much repetition. Not of the gameplay mechanic, but of the grind.

Also, while the gem apples ripen every 12 hours, the amiibo and adventure bell only renew every 24, so I'm only playing it as my after dinner digest time before moving onto other things. Which may be soon if I can't get past the level 15 guy while I'm level 12.

I've been surprised by how much I enjoy this game. I did invest some money in during the initial sale to upgrade myself to 30 Gem Apples/12 Hr., but currently am sitting at Level 50 and haven't really hit any barrier. I did take advantage of the free Gem Apple offers, Tetris 99 offer, and password offers for the extra Gem Apples.

I am not sure if it is a testament to the increased quality, my lack of time, or something else; but this game, Fallout Shelter and SNES Online (well pulling my SNES Classic back out) have been my go to games lately.
