As Nintendo's only done 1 Splatoon 3 Splatfest on the same week as a Direct (Dark vs. Milk vs. White chocolate in February 2023), I think no 3rd anniversary Splatfest is a hint at a Direct on anniversary week.
If there's a general Direct that week and Splatoon 3 is absent then I agree that events are likely wrapping up. But until then I still have hope that Splatoon 3 has stuff incoming.

I’m guessing at this time most of the team is moving to work on Splatoon 4 at this time after Summer Nights ended (depending on if Splatoon Raiders is almost done), so that could be another hint that they’re just finishing remaining events with the upcoming Big Run and anything for September before officially pulling the plug on any new events for 3.
As for content updates, I still see them going a little while longer even if Splatfests are actually done, maybe just to add more 3rd kits, the Splatfest/Tricolor stages to private battles and maybe the final one adding support for new Deep Cut amiibo if they’re make some as part of Splatoon Raiders, or all those three and some others could be put together for one big final update. I think I brought this one up yesterday.
No sign of a Splatfest anywhere (neither for Splatoon 3’s anniversary or for Mario). I think it’s safe to say Splatfests are done for Splatoon 3 and September is just the month of wrapping up any remaining events they already have coming up.
We've still got rumors flying in about a Direct early this month. I'm nothing if not a copium addicts, so I will remain firmly in place with my fingers crossed.
OK. So I like the Splash change - it now fights better (unnecessary but fine) while painting worse (which is healthy). Gal now fights faster, but is more ink hungry (a net positive IMO), and Brella... I dunno how I feel about that. It has better support now, which is good, I guess, but one-on-one will be harder. It also got the first +20PFS change in all of S3, which is wild. Meanwhile, Swig and SwigX got a 10 point buff (I'll take anything at this point). Also, Caster ha said bigger explosion... Not needed but not bad. And Vac can absorb more and makes a bigger explosion, which is a great buff since they apparently can't let us just fire it whenever we want lol.
@vio I did indeed! Just booted it up, despite not having finished the OG, because I couldn't stop myself. I'll stop after a bit and finish out the original before making more progress, but I already am loving it!
I went ahead and snagged a copy of Splatterbot as well. It's a local multiplayer version of Splatoon from a top-down view, basically. Been on my radar for about a year as a good Splatlike for my little siblings; I'll let y'all know how it is!
I’ll be honest, if Summer Nights really is the last Splatfest for Splatoon 3, it actually seems fitting for Frye to have won. It closes out this chapter with her going from being the one with the least Splatfest wins to being the one who breaks Big Man’s seasonal fest streak.
@Croctopus Honestly I already don’t think they’re doing anymore seasonal fests for Splatoon 3 after Summer Nights.
I’m guessing during the Direct we’ll get another look at Splatoon Raiders and maybe some last content updates for Splatoon 3. Of those updates I’m guessing it will be the Splatfest/Tricolor private battle update, any remaining third kits and probably support for new Deep Cut and Mechanic amiibo if Nintendo makes some.
