I’m seriously not looking up jack for this game. But idk, maybe I should just see the leak to make myself not have to worry……yeah I’m looking at it. Someone post it for me now!

So ehm, Splatoon 3 has been spotted in the wild apparently and people are warning for spoilers online.
Now, I don't care for Splatoon myself, I'm just being curious here. Is there anything spoiler-worthy in Splatoon's story modes? I was under the impression those were little more than a bunch of test ranges in disguise.
@Mioaionios bosses the overall story and all of the cutscenes. This story mode is especially spoil worthy due to some of the stuff that happens. Won’t be spoiling any of it here
@Mioaionios It's both what @Blooper987 already said in addition to that sweet, sweet lore us Splatoon fans crave via both the story and Sunkern Scrolls.

@Mioaionios Adding to what's been said above, I'd say spoilers for Splatoon 3 single player would be similar to spoilers for 3D Mario games. Story isn't deep, but it still has a role. Spoilers could be anything showing new worlds, new level features, abilities, or reveals the new bosses, boss battles, or the grand, final boss.
I wonder when the reviews will go up for this game. I’m a little nervous that it won’t have a great score on metacritic because reviewer’s odd expectations for a new Nintendo sequel heading into it. Not that this changes whether or not I’m getting the game or whether or not I’ll enjoy it. I just hope it’s going to have a high score so that there my become more new Splatoon fans.
@LiNeR I'm sure it'll review well for the most part. I find the odd complaints mostly coming from casual fans and outsiders rather than official reviewers or huge fans of the series. In fact, if you look at the previews for the game that came out a bit ago, most people hardly mentioned the lack of drastically new features. They instead praise the new things that we did get and how, while minor, they really improve the game feel.
But it does make me wonder how the game will be received by newer or more casual audiences. I'm sure it will be positive but it's hard to say.

@LiNeR There seems to be just as many if not more new features in Splatoon 3 compared to the previous game than Splatoon 2 had at launch compared to Splatoon. Splatoon 3's story mode is also looking better than the previous games as well. Assuming there aren't any technical issues, it should get good reviews. I am expecting there to some comments about the fact there aren't any new ranked modes (although it looks like there are some changes to Rainmaker). Splatoon 2 has a slightly higher score than Splatoon on Metacritic, so it doesn't seem like it was an issue for Splatoon 2 being a sequel, so I don't think it will affect Splatoon 3.
@GX_64 Agreed. I think people justified Splatoon 2's existence because it was on a new console that people actually bought. However, as you said, Splatoon 2 didn't add a ton of game-changing features, like how some are wanting Splatoon 3 to play out. Sure, we got Salmon Run (the biggest addition) and some new weapons, maps, ranked modes, etc. But the core gameplay remained the same between the two. We're basically getting the same thing with 3 now, new weapons, new maps, new modes, the whole shebang (excluding new ranked modes, which is a fair criticism). However, I think just because it's on the same console as 2, people are questioning why it's being released and calling Nintendo out for milking their series. Even though Splatoon 2 came out 5 years ago, 2 years after Splatoon 1 came out.
Their logic does not make sense to me, but whatever. I'm just going to enjoy the heck out of this game in a couple of days, and a few people's opinions are not going to sway my opinion.

@LiNeR Oh yeah, Nintendolife's reviews for Splatoon & Splatoon 2 when live 1-2 days before release day, while the reivew for Octo Expansion went live on release day. Maybe we'll see NL's review before release day.
As far as growing the fan base goes, yeah, we'll see. There's been a lot of new switch owners since the pandemic, and I've seen a few switch newbs in here saying were skipping Splatoon 2 (so late in it's life) and wait for Splatoon 3 be their first Splatoon game. We also haven't seen Splatoon 1 get much of a price drop. If someone had to choose between the $50 Splatoon 2 and shiney new $60 Splatoon 3, I think people are more likely to pick the newest entry.
8's and 9's everywhere, it seems. General consensus is that it improves on the core gameplay in drastic ways, and like the NL review said, in ways that players may not have even thought of before. It's not particularly inventive and doesn't rewrite the book, but most seem to be fine with that.

@WoomyNNYes Looking great so far, pretty much what I had expected. There's the odd review that scores it lowly for not "revolutionizing enough" or whatever, but I'm hoping the general consensus is better than that.

Has any review mentioned if amiibo will grant us the gear that it gave us in Splatoon 2? Nintendolife's review didn't mention amiibo. Perhaps amiibo content isn't available yet. I'm not talking about the new, new unreleased amiibo; The new amiibo doesn't release until later this year, november/december, or something like that.
@WoomyNNYes I've seen at meast one image of the amiibo box thing in-game so there should be functionality at launch and I'd be surprised if they didn't just give the same gear considering the Splatoon 1 amiibo still did in Splatoon 2. I don't know for sure though.
Thanks, @Fizza! Very helpful. I don't collect amiibo, but I do have all the Splatoon 1&2 amiibo in NFC card form. I want that knight's armor - I still use the upper part of the gear of that often. https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Steel_Platemail
