@WoomyNNYes Unfortunately no, that's just one of the 12 poses you can choose. I don't have the actual emote for after battles, I just have "MVPleased" as my current emote (earned at catalog level 24)

@Fizza Salmon Run is slowly becoming a meta parody of capitalism isn't it 😅 Good luck on getting that Dust-blocker!

@Wolfleaf The dust blocker mask in salmon run store is actually 800 bronze scales, not 1200. But I'll agree, 800 is still on the steep side, especially if salmon run isn't your main mode.

I got the game at launch, and salmon run is the main mode I play. So far it looks like I've earned about 1400 bronze scales (judging by what I've bought already). So, that took about 6 months. Granted, I already had average SR skill from Splatoon 2. Is this your first Splatoon game?

@WoomyNNYes It's technically 800 yes, but you need to have bought both previous Bronze rewards (which are 100 and 300 scales respectively) in order to access it. They really don't make it easy on us huh XD

@Fizza OHHHHHHHhhhhhh. I didnt' realize the dust blocker mask was the second tier of the SR shop. That is pricey to unlock. Yeah, definitely over priced. I blew my hard earned scales on BS I didn't want just to finally get access to stuff I wanted in tier 2. Yeah, it's a joke.

EDIT: Forgive me, @WolfLeaf

@WoomyNNYes @Wolfleaf yeah that price is ridiculous and with the slow drop rates of scales that must take ages
on the topic of scales, how does everybody feel about them? imo their drop rate is wayyy too low for the frequency of bosses and i can't bring myself to play salmon run long enough to be able to get all those rewards

playing right now:
splatoon 3

@Wolfleaf Oh, 85 hours! You're a newb!! 😁 I don't mean that in a bad way. I didn't get into salmon run until after I'd had Splatoon 2 for 100+ hours. Partly because I didn't know the different weapon types well. There's plenty to learn, but that's part of the fun. SR added so much more depth to the game. (Plus, if you want ability chunks, playing SR is a great way to accumulate chunks) I wouldn't have gotten any good if it wasn't for watching Salmon Run Tips videos on youtube. So, if you haven't done that, it will help you a lot. Or watch high rank play Eggsecutive VP(EVP), like CheWoomy, or Hazmy on youtube, or anyone that's in EVP.

It takes a bit of time to learn the weapon types & their roles in SR. It also takes practice learning how to prioritize bosses, staying alive, while also looking out for teammates & reviving them. I often have high teammate revival totals compared to teammates. If anyone has high revival rumbers, they're probalby higher rank players.

If you know any of these already, then you're doing good!

  • Don't kill everything at the shoreline. When SR rank & egg quotas get higher, you'll start failing to get quota if you have to move all eggs from the shore to the egg basket. If you see a Maws, or Scrapper, Lure them to the basket, splat them there. It's much more productive.
  • Shoot down the drizzler bullets to prevent ink storm rain.
  • If I have a weapon that can put down lots of ink, I do what I can to keep ink on the ground for teammates, so they can escape, or get around, because usually 1 or more teammates have slower weapons. (you'll notice eggsecutive vp player videos, they paint the walls like mad at the start of waves. Ink on the ground & walls = surviving).
  • Explosher shots can take out Flyfish baskets quick, no splatbombs needed.
  • Dynamo: Set it on the ground, and roadblock lesser salmonids - they will melt away(die) walking into it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxLuHPGMnGo
  • Strong weapons: If I have a strong weapon, like splattershot pro, I will focus on taking out the larger of the lesser salmonids to make it easier for teammates to manage, because there's usually a teammate with a slow or weak weapon.

EDIT: Forgive me if this post seemed excessive. I just love Salmon Run. I've got more hours in Salmon Run that I want to admit publicly. @Budda and @BenAV are better than me, since they get to higher Eggsective VP ranks than me.

@novasoup @Wolfleaf Regarding salmon run scale drop rate, I'll agree it seems too slow at times. If I struggle to complete all three waves too much, I'll demote myself one level so I can get king salmonid encounters more consistently. Sometimes, if teams are really bad, I'll demote myself a second time.

It would be nice if they tweaked the scale drop rate, or let us buy scales with money, or exchange lesser scales for better scales.

Just to add something here. I learned the game from just playing the game. Learning by doing. I have the talent to get decently good at something the longer I do it without practicing skills.
For Salmon Run I watch Japanese livestreams when I wake up in the morning. That's when they are live in my timezone. Weird I know, but it's just totally relaxing and got into my daily morning routine for some reason. 😅 Anyway... I learned any skill I need for the game naturally by watching them as well. Didn't look for any tricks or something. I just adapted their playstiles automatically whithout thinking about it, or noticing it.

@Budda Perhaps I'm a slower learner than many people.😁 I floundered at lower ranks for a while when I was new to salmon run. I either wasn't being exposed to good players enough, or wasn't noticing helpful things.🤣

Okay I'm going in a crazy rabbit hole and I need to share it. Did you guys know that Pearl and Marina's voice actors made a collab song outside of Splatoon? Well me neither!

It literally feels like an IRL Off the Hook song, their voices are so similar to the in-game ones. It's so good

Other fun fact: Pearl's VA actually streams the game which is so wholesome I love it too much. I wish I could understand even a single word

Anyone got any advice on how to get better in Salmon Run?
I'm currently Profreshional +2, and only play freelance. At this point I think it's starting to get pretty tough. I usually focus on killing the bosses, inking for mobility and saving my team mates.

@Wolfleaf
I have the feeling people take Hazmy's advice too seriously. At least his 'heat meter' are a little misleading. Once his meter was pretty low and it was way harder than some of his very high meters. Maybe some players avoid playing "difficult' runs all together and I get paired with more experienced players for that reason, making the shift easier than expected.

Yeah I probably jumped into Salmon Run too early before fully grasping all the weapon types...

At around 80-ish hours of Splatoon 2, it was salmon run that motivated me to learn weapon types I wasn't familiar with. That's when I finally started learning chargers, the Dynamo, and Range Blasters. In my early days, I keenly remember getting nervous if I got assigned any of those weapons in Salmon Run.🤣

I like this next group of weapons that start tonight a bit better than the current one. Plus, gone fission hydroplant is an easier stage. So, teams should have more successes (not a guarantee🤣).

Strangely enough, i haven’t been playing Splatoon 3 that much. I played it a ton in October and November, and even with the new update, I just can’t seem to get back in. I lose every match. Those new weapons aren’t all they are cracked up to be either, huh?

There is rubber-banding with battle matching system. While you can have a day where you constantly get crushed in turf war, it's pretty much guaranteed the next day you play, you'll start with a decent streak of good teams & wins.
