Had a decent crack of getting as high as I could in this Salmon Run rotation but only made it to Eggsecutive VP 735 so still a fair way off 999. Think I was playing really well for the most part but didn't have much luck with finding strong teams that stuck together for more than 1-2 games.
I tried the card game. When none of the ink patterns had room to fit, I hit PASS, but the game just sits there. I saw no prompt or instruction telling me how to advance the game. All three times I got past the PASS button, I had no idea what random button presses got me through it or why. Nintendo had no idea how mentally challenged I am when they designed this. Outside lof laying down the ink patterns, that game seems evil to me.
benAV i need your wisdom (and i'm sure others would appreciate it too)
how do i git gud at salmon run
i'm a profreshional +1 rn and keep having to deal with unhelpful teammates or our entire team being cornered by bosses
how did you get to eggsecutive vp so easily and how did you get so many cohozuna scales (especially because i want the splashtags and slopsuits lol)

1) try not to die, like, survivability should be your TOP priority. the process of getting splatted to being able to spawn to be revived could take upwards 8 seconds, which is an eternity in salmon run's 100 seconds as opposed to a five-ish minute ranked match.
2) avoid bad loadouts like the plague! if you see weapons that you know arent great for salmon run (slow blasters, slow chargers, bamboozler, bows etc.) don't risk your level. those are harder and a headache. if you think youre bad with those weapons chances are your teammates are WORSE
3) to prevent levelling down, use your specials in the 2nd wave if around 30 second mark youre down one person OR behind the quota a bit, just to survive it and at the very worst lose the 3rd wave but still retain your level

My advice would be:
Find a good balance between killing enemies and collecting gold eggs. If there are to many enemies, take care of them first. On the other hand if the map is not crowded, don't waste your time with killing enemies and collect gold eggs instead. Take care of bosses that can attack you from far away like these laser-tower and rocket bosses (sorry don't know their names right now 😅) if there are too many of them.
Whenever possible lure moving bosses closer to the basket. And don't focus too much on bosses that are the farest away. Collecting eggs from too far away cost too much time. (Except if there is a gold egg canon).
Oh. And I know that's obvious. But you have to be skilled mechanically. Avoiding getting killed by walking and swimming around any danger.
If your team isn't collecting enough eggs, you have to do it. Carrying the game. And find other players if you have the feeling the synergy isn't good enough. And stick to the players where's good of course.
@novasoup to add to the other good points, try to get comfortable with the other weapons too. I'm not saying spend 1,000 hours with every type but just enough so you brain adjusts to when you're playing with them automatically as it will make a big difference when you're using a type you're weaker with.
On the topic of Salmon Run, I want to talk about quite possibly my favourite moment ever in that mode.
So this happened a while back (I think about 2-3 weeks ago at this point) but all that's really important is that it was the rotation on Salmonid Smokeyard with our lord and saviour the Explosher. I match up with a few randoms and we have some great teamwork going, getting a decently good win-loss ratio and racking our way up the rewards ladder. Then, on the 2nd Wave of one of our rounds, the thing I was dreading the most happened: GLOWFLIES. If you know anything about Splatoon 3 Salmon Run....it's that Flyfish should burn in hell. But if you know a SECOND thing about Splatoon 3 Salmon Run, it's that Glowflies have been absolutely ZONKED up compared to 2, leaving almost nothing in their wake if even 1 of your teammates gets killed.
So the minute I saw that notification, I hurried up the main tower at Smokeyard, bringing everyone else up with me. From there we started mowing through them, helped out immensely by me getting the Explosher for that wave which ripped them apart like nobody's business. However, as we were getting down to the final 20 seconds, we were getting swarmed like nobody's business as two of our teammates got destroyed. However, me and another random managed to get the final 2 eggs needed for the quota right as I got the Glowflies put on me. And in what can only be described as something straight out of a zombie movie, I diverted their attention away from the rest of my teammates and made them follow me to murky depths below as the timer ticked away for the win.
It was literally that scene from Shaun of the Dead where he distracts the zombies in order to get into the pub and god did it feel absolutely amazing.

@novasoup If you can get good at surviving even when things get a little dicey then that goes a long way. Also good to be a bit mindful of your teammates and revive them really quickly when they get splatted. Steadily killing bosses is more important than getting in as many eggs as possible as you don't want to get too overwhelmed and if you can keep control of the map then reaching the quota will usually be simple enough. Certain weapons are better at handling some bosses better than others so try to focus on playing to your weapon's strengths where possible. End of the day it mostly just comes down to practice. I played a lot of Salmon Run in Splatoon 2 which is why I was comfortable enough with it to get up to Eggsecutive VP without much trouble.
The scales basically just require you to play a lot. There's not a huge difference between killing and not killing it (max number you can get is 13 for killing with 30+ seconds left) and the rarer ones are easier to get at a higher rank but not by that much really. Just gotta keep grinding away till you get lucky, especially with the gold ones which can be few and far between.
I dunno if the report function is likely to actually do anything but you bet I'm going to make use of it anyway. Had an Anarchy battle just before where after getting splatted a couple of times one of my teammates gave up and just spammed Booyah in the base for the rest of the game so reported them for intentionally not contributing. I get giving up if we're about to lose but there was still heaps of time to turn it around.
@BenAV Having troll team mates sucks. I do lean more towards playing the rank modes since on the higher levels it has less of them since anyone who gets to that level actually wants to play the game rather than play silly buggers.
@novasoup If you haven't watched Salmon Run tips videos on youtube, that can help. Since Splatoon 3 released, I've watched youtuber CheWoomy. I've been watching her Eggsecutive VP gameplay, and some of her videos are instructional tips. (If you wonder what her accent is, she's German.)
Profreshional rank IS a struggle to get strong teammates. In eastern US, I seem to get better teammates later at night, around 10 or 11pm (after casual players have gone to bed).
WE WERE ROBBED.
I really hope these come back in a future update or something because god that SCAR THOUGH.
