Topic: Smash Brothers for Nintendo Switch

A thought has just struck me; if Pokken Tournament DX is compatable with the wired Pokken controller, is there any reason why Smash 4 Switch can't be compatable with the GameCube controller adaptor?

@DarthNocturnal Well that's double the number I thought (I didn't know it worked on anything but Smash).

If the Switch supports the Pokken pad, it wouldn't surprise me if they extended the same luxury to the GameCube adaptor, as Smash is a bigger game with an even pickier fan base. I'm sure some people would downright boycott the game if they couldn't use analogue triggers.

Anyway, we'll see. It seemed kinda niche in the Wii U era (although it did keep selling out...), but I think there would be a very vocal market for it. For some people Smash just isn't Smash without that GC goodness.

I doubt they'd allow it to be used for many other games though, unless the GC Library does get released (not looking imminent).

It would be nice if the 3DS Controller App would be compatible with the Switch version as well. Oddly, there hasn't been any kind of connectivity with the Switch and 3DS so far. You'd think that there would have been some kind of method of transferring, say, Miis from 3DS and Wii U to Switch, other than the convoluted method of transferring Miis via amiibo (it's probably Nintendo's underhanded tactic to get people who are otherwise disinterested in them to buy just one, hoping that they get sucked into buying more).

I won't need it though as I'll already have plenty of Switch controllers, with more to come with the Splatoon Pro Controller, Splatoon Joy-Con and the Yellow Joy-Con on the way.

I just want them to include Rex (maybe a duo coupling with Pyra) from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who wants this.

Though promotion wise it makes sense, Elma honestly has a lot more going for her with dual SMGS/short swords-- Rex basically just has the monado by another name.

In January of 2017 we got an awesome Nintendo Direct that gave us many game announcements for this year. I think it's save to guess we'll get one like that in January 2018 as well, announcing some major games. One of the games I hope they'll announce is the next Super Smash Bros and, like I always do, I began dreaming of the possibilities of the next game in the franchise way before it even gets announced.

Anyway, my hopes and dreams for the next Smash Bros game:

• developed by Retro Studios to shake things up
• inclusion of characters from indie games like Shantae, Shovel Knight and Gunvolt
• character appearance customization: different costumes and/or looks for every character like an 8-Bit Mario and Mario in his wedding suit, choice between Toon Link and Young Link in one slot, Samus Aran in her Fusion suit,...

1. A campaign mode either like Melee's adventure mode or Brawl's Subspace. Smash 4 felt devoid of distractions from the main gameplay style.

2. Character inclusions: Inkling, Ribbon Girl, Impa, Captain Toad

Cappy will be a new character.

Oh my god what if they put the Dohvakiin in XD. That would be so hilarious, I want to live in that timeline.

There have been a lot more new Nintendo characters this year than any in recent memory, but I'd argue that few of them are standouts. Even Pauline, probably one of the better characters, will probably just end up as a costume for Peach while Cappy might be Mario's side B (when was the last time he used a cape?).

Interesting suggestion. I wonder how Retro would fare on a Smash game. They haven't really tackled a fighting game before from my knowledge.

As much as I love those three, I can only really see Shantae and maybe Shovel Knight getting in. Gunvolt is a much newer character in comparison, and while he has been playable in more games than Shovel Knight (who has mainly just had non-playable cameos in other games), he isn't nearly as popular in America or Europe. Not sure about Japan, though... And Shantae has been with Nintendo since the Game Boy Color, and I believe she has somewhat of a following in Japan too.

Commander Video is a trophy in Smash Wii U though, so a Gunvolt trophy in Smash would be really cool!

I also would like this, but I'd also like to add on to this and say more alternate characters that share slots due to having the exact same moveset, like Alph and the Koopalings. I'm thinking Chrom as an alt for Ike, BotW's Link as an alt for Link, etc.

Yes, exactly! That way, if they include an Arms character, they could very well include all of them as alternate colors/outfits like they did with the Koopalings. I think it would be fun though to have these alternate forms be unlockables with in-game currency or something.

Would be cool to see some more third-party characters like Cloud and Bayonetta. I would've liked Crono or a different Final Fantasy character, but one is enough.

@Snaplocket That's fair. I just wanted to see Nintendo add more copyrights at the end of their trailers.

@Snaplocket Including third party characters doesn't automatically mean you will have to pay extra for them. It did in the previous game for a couple of characters but most of them were from Nintendo licensed properties anyway. Mega Man and Sonic weren't DLC for instance.

@Snaplocket Paid DLC isn't the best way to implement new fighters. I totally agree with that. And yes, some of the choices they made in the past concerning guest characters has been questionable to say the least. I just hope that with the next game we will get some guest characters that actually make sense and we don't have to pay extra for them, like they did with Sonic and Mega Man.
Also, as I stated before on this topic, I think it would be great if Retro Studios would make the next installment to freshen things up.
