Topic: Sign-in ID vs nickname

I’ve been scouring the web trying to figure this out. I just got the online service set up for my son. But I don’t want his real name being displayed in games as his gamer tag, but right now that’s how it’s set up. What do I need to change so that people only know him online by a made up name we create? I’m getting confused by the whole user ID vs nickname thing. Cause I’ve read some posts that say your “nickname” is what people see you as in the games....but that your user ID is how friends add you. Huh? This is what is confusing me. Why would you use one name for your game tag and use another to add friends? I don’t want his real name being used at all.

I think all you need to do is rename his profile. I'm not really sure what people mean by user ID to add friends, all I'm aware of are the name you give your profile, which shows up in online games, and the friend code, which is a number.

You can use a nickname on NIN online. But you should really contact Nintendo Support for this issue since NL isn't Nintendo and can't talk for Nintendo here.
