I just read that article on nintendotoday and said to myself WTF?! I mean really WTF? 900p 30fps. Maybe I should just return my Switch within 14 days back policy. Metroid prime 4 will run like poop.
I really hate that I actually want this game. I thought I would not get it or wait a while, but I might just pick it up. And I hate myself for thinking that.
Even games on Xbox run often run at 900p. So why on earth would that be unacceptable for Switch? 900p upscaled to 1080p looks so similar that I doubt 95% of gamers would even be able to tell the difference if somebody didn't tell them about it point-blank. I doubt you would be able to tell the difference.
And... it's a strategy game. If Zelda can run at 30fps, why on earth would it be a problem for a strategy game that's turn based? Have you failed to notice how great this game looks? They clearly chose to boost the visuals and use 30fps rather than lesser visuals in favor of extra frames in a turn based game... which is the logical thing to do for a game like this.
Please, please go return your Switch so someone who actually values video games and isn't living in fantasy land can enjoy it.
@BLP_Software I'm serious man. So early on it's lifespan and can't push 3rd party on 30fps to 1080p. That's just so lame! I know Switch is portable and "weak" but it should last for 4 years at least. Now I see "new switch" next year and "new new Switch year after.
And btw I don't like it so much. Wii U is better system IMO. I hate when I want to switch in handheld mode I need to stand up, dismantle joycons, put it on Switch and get back on couch. On Wii U it was just one button away to switch between TV and handheld. I loved that feature because my kids always interupt my playing sessions.
Furthermore, I was so trilled about Switch portability but now when I have one I found it not so pleasant to play it like handheld. It just feel somehow uncomfortable and fragile.
I'm not all that unhappy but now I regret buying it so early. I could buy new ps4 at half price of switch (yea, exactly half priced here in Croatia) and wait for a year or two
@JaxonH it's not about resolution, I'm not graphics freak.. I have 3ds which is my most favorite gaming system of all time, have Wii U and now Switch and I love Nintendo and their games. Never bothered with ps3, 4, xboxone. I had ps1,2, original xbox, wii.. so u can see it's not about graphics. Also i play regularly old school games on Wii U VC and having blst with them.
It's about skepticism about future of Switch and Nintendo console business as whole.
I want it succeed, I want it to sell like Wii did and of course, I want great games on it... but can't see that's going to happen.
I hope I'm wrong.. I really do!
@CroRock You know you can keep the joycons on the Switch while docked, right?
I only use the joycons for handheld mode and it's just as easy as that. Put the Switch with the joycons attached into the dock when playing docked, take the Switch out of the dock when playing handheld and that's it. The Switch pro controller is one of Nintendo's best quality controllers throughout their entire console history so if you don't have one I'd recommend you get one and leave joycons just for handheld mode.
Everyone else can. So I don't know what to tell you. I mean, it's still sold out 6 months post launch, they're holding lotteries in Japan where 5,000 people are lining up for just a chance of buying one of 300 units. I have 4 coworkers who already bought a Switch- people who haven't owned a Nintendo console in 15 years, with dozens more talking about it- more than any other console on the market. Almost everyone who owns one is gushing about it- even channels like classicgameroom that don't typically focus on Nintendo are posting photo shoots of the system just because they love it so much. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the system is absolutely incredible, has captured the attention of the masses and is catching on like wildfire. But whether or not it sells like the Wii, it's going to do considerably well- that much is blatantly obvious.
Skepticism is one thing- when there's actually a reason to be skeptical- but right now the opposite is true. If I were a betting man I would not bet against the Switch- you'd have to be a fool to do so. But irrespective of its' success, games look absolutely incredible on the system, and the performance of the games have all been adequate if not exceedingly so. And the quality, fun-factor, and frequency of release of the games have definitely exceeded that of Wii U. It's superior in almost every single way- certainly in most of the areas that truly matter.
Just play the games and enjoy it. Mario Kingdom Battle looks immaculate- the performance is perfectly fine and the visuals are stunning. If that's not satisfactory for you, then I don't know what to tell you aside from maybe quit playing video games- iirc Switch actually has a higher ratio of games running at 60fps than any other console. So if you're going to complain about performance, this is not the console to point the finger at.

I do the same. I never take my joycons off the Switch... when I dock it I do just that- I dock it and grab a separate pair of Joycon. When I take it with me, I just grab it and go.
But despite how much I love the pro controller (and I agree- it's an incredible controller) I prefer using 2 split Joycon even more so. It's super comfy, more versatile, and far easier to use gyro which is crucial for games like Splatoon 2... even Zelda with aiming the bow. And then with Arms, the split Joycon thumbs up grip feels so good and is so much fun to use...
I never want to use another controller again. Split Joycon is it. The pinnacle of controller design.

@JaxonH
You are on all topics here on forum and on main page commentary section, You own pretty all games for all Nintendo systems because I see your comments on almost every game. Good for you, I'm jealous. Really. You have both pro controller and spare pair of joycons and your English is way better then mine. So.. I can't and won't argue with you.
I am and always will be Nintendo fanboy and surely won't stop playing games.
I said Switch just didn't clicked with me the way I thought it would.
Sorry for having my opinion, I hope you can live with that. Say no more coz you win, ok?
FYI I am looking at this game from E3 and probably will buy it day one or maybe two because I love strategy games. I even bought Switch for new Fire Emblem. And well.. for Monster Hunter. But... can I say that no new Monster Hunter World on Switch and even no MHXX west release is one big bullpoop?! No, sure I can't because you would say me sell your Switch and stop playing games LOL.
So all hail the Nintendo Switch.. its best console ever existed without flaws and all. Beat that Sony and Microsoft if you dare.
New SNES era is coming...
So a game is dissapointing because it runs at 900p and 30 fps? No judging the game for gameplay, creativity, or anything, just for freaking graphics.
God, I hate what the gaming community has become.
I'll get Mario Kingdom Battle, maybe not on day one, since I'm trying to save up, but I'll definitively get it. It looks wonderful, and the strategy system definitively is right up my alley.
@CroRock
It's not about winning, I'm just trying to talk some sense to you in response to what you said.
Nobody said the system is "without flaws", but citing Mario Kingdom Battle's 900p docked/720p handheld/30fps performance as reason to "sell your Switch" is not only unreasonable it's borderline insanity. Saying "you don't see the Switch being successful" when the thing has been sold out for half a year, flying off shells and people are lining up in droves for lottery chances of buying one... is not only unreasonable is just nonsensical.
And then using a strawman argument to counter the fact I'm poking holes in such statements... implying that I said "Switch is perfect and has no flaws and is the greatest system ever" just shows you never had an argument to begin with. FYI a flaw is a defect of intent or design. A game running the best it can run is not a "flaw". You don't buy a car that gets 32mpg and then complain it's not 40mpg and label it a "flaw". It's not a defect, it's by design. The Switch is designed to have the exact amount of power it has- that's not a defect. That's not a flaw. It's by choice- as with all consumer products marketed for the masses, its about balance- power, price, versatility, mobility, design... and finding the right balance among all of those things to get the best bang for buck.
OMFG I just said that it's not good sign that Switch (aka the newest console on market atm) can't run 1080p in late 2017! Are you all that blind?! F*ck graphics, I don't play Nintendo games and systems for graphics!
Why the f*ck MH World won't come on Switch? Why is new FIFA custom made game? What about FIFA 19, 20?
Just be real ffs.. ok we all love our switches and wiius and 3dss but they are all way underpowered consoles! And one great great console like Wii U suffered from it!
Now you just tell me that Nintendo voice app is best thing ever happened to gaming industry and Switch multiplayer gaming. And that you can't wait for Nintendo to charge you for online. Tell me that Switch don't need VC, tell me you don't need apps on Switch, no need for cloud save and account. I need to buy super mario world on every console I own again and again and thats ok.
Keep it real diehard Switch fanboys.
I'm out of this stupid discussion and back to playing Splatoon 2... bb
@JaxonH ok, ok... I would have far more arguments to write about if english would be my language.
I'm here on nintendolife for years and will be in years to come so we can continue this discussion about Switch success for year or two. In the meantime.. hf and game on..
The whole issue is borderline inanity. In fact, it's full-blown inanity; it's about as inane as it gets.
This looks like an excellent strategy game and I'm really looking forward to playing it. I'm not particularly interested in engaging in some pseudo-intellectual discussion simply because I've found some numbers to throw about; numbers whose effects I'd likely never consciously notice.
The two most important questions are: Is the game fundamentally fun, and are there any performance issues getting in the way of that fun? If we start hearing about frequent juddering drops below 30fps or other technical hitches, then I'm interested (and concerned), as that would have a meaningful impact on my enjoyment of the game. But simply bringing up 'target numbers' without relationship to how they affect the gameplay is a super dull lens with which to look at upcoming video games through.
It's like people boasting that their car's top speed is three times the legal speed limit. Like, good. Have fun thinking about that number. But if you blow it into something more important than it actually is, the discussion soon gets pretty boring.
@Ralizah Even though I appreciate your effort at sarcasm, it doesn't work. It's a logical fallacy, a paradox. The PS4 has Life of Black Tiger, it cannot be trash by default.
