I’m not sure but I think it’s only like this on Switch. So maybe these originally had other layers of detail or something went wrong when they ported it.
Still though it’s harmless and amusing enough. Like the trees are circular saws.
@JaxonH that looks great. So Revelations follow the same vein of the mainline games? I don't know why I always mixed them with a spin-off that was released for Wii. Cannot recall the title right now.
@javierferrerm
They're structured slightly differently but ya, they're 95% the same as the main line series. Close enough that I don't personally note a difference between them. They are, to me, just as good if not better.
The main difference is, Revelations had an "Episodic" structure where each chapter changed characters and switched back and forth between two concurrent storylines in the same overarching plot. And if you quit playing and started the game up again later, it would give an "Episode Recap" of previous events to get you up to speed again. It worked really well.
In fact, it worked so well that Revelations 2 literally released as episodes. I believe the first was free and each additional episode was $5-10, but once it was all out they packaged it as the full game and released physically. Still felt the same as the first Revelations though because it had the same episodic structure, even if it was released as a single game from the start.
And the RAID modes, oh the RAID modes. This is what Mercenaries should have been. In Revelations you have to beat a chapter in order to unlock its RAID counterpart for co-op. But in Revelations 2, RAID mode is unlocked from the start and consists of completely separate stages, as opposed to reworking the campaign levels with different enemies and placement.
Revelations 2 RAID mode is pinnacle of the series imo.

Like I was saying, it was likely to use 2D sprites for the trees without the player being able to notice them being 2D when viewing from different perspectives.
So I don't think it's a bug, I think it's by design. To ensure the game runs well on Switch. Those are the types of tricks devs use to cut down required processing.

@JaxonH oh I did understand your point, I know these are 2D tree pancakes in the sky.
However, it is very much a bug. That kind of effect should be imperceptible to the player. It was implemented wrong in these trees, since it’s being affected by the camera in ways it shouldn’t.
In fact, being so far above the player, they don’t really need to rotate at all, so perhaps it’s a leftover from some other effect they used.
@javierferrerm You're probably thinking of Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles as the Wii spinoff. They're essentially a rail shooter retelling of the earlier games.
Revelations was meant to be a back-to-basics horror spinoff while the mainline games of RE5 and 6 were getting rather more adventure focused. Some might even argue that they're more in the spirit of earlier games than the actual mainline based on that.
I had my first death in Resi remake 1. I was eaten by a giant shark. It's not all bad though - I got a trophy for it. Also, when you get a trophy the PS5 records a 15 second clip of gameplay footage and pairs it with said trophy. So now I can watch Redfield getting nommed on by Jaws whenever I want. Worth it.
Turns out I'm playing on easy. I'm not exactly sure how that happened because I picked the middle option when starting, which I assumed would be normal. It's not a big deal really, but there was one moment where Wesker (of all characters) left a bunch of ammo and healing items in a save room and I didn't need any of it.

Give me a heads-up if you're going to send a request please.
I died 3 times in a row on the first chapter of Revelations 2, and each time had to backtrack several minutes just to get to the enemies that killed me again. After 3 deaths I said screw this, I'm lowering difficulty.
Same happened in RE5. Kept dying over and over in the very first chapter of the game. Had to restart on easy. Which is partly why I haven't started playing it again yet.
Revelations was the same. And RE4, I couldn't get past the first hour of the game. Gave up on that because there were no difficulty settings. That game is way too hard.
Maybe I just suck, but all I know is, easy feels like the right difficulty for me.

@JaxonH same. I've beaten 4 and 5, and while 4 is a little tougher, it's manageable bc there's a built in difficulty setting that gauges how well you're doing. I think that's accurate lol. Pretty sure eel told me that.
But when I have the chance I always put RE games on easy. There's no shame in it. More ammo to mow down zoms
@NintendoByNature
Ya, I'm too old for self pride in video games. Life is short and I wanna have fun. If easy is what it takes, then on easy it shall go!
@AegisPrime
Maybe one day I'll try again, but the lack of gyro aiming and the wobbly gun, and all the other amazing RE games I haven't struggled with because they have gyro and an easy mode, has steered me toward just not caring much about it.
I'd love to play the Wii version with IR pointer controls but it's sub HD. And I never had good luck with Wiimote on Dolphin.

Even with the wii pointer controls, I found 4 to be a bit too… oppressive? I didn’t quite enjoy the experience.
Funny thing is that I did not like RE4 on my 1st playthrough. But if you know what you are doing from the start the game is more and more enjoyable.
At first I did not know why people liked it but after I beat it I began to understand why it is called a masterpiece That is why they brought back so many aspects of it to Resident Evil 8.
The absolute lowest points in the series for me are Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil Revelations.
I am NOT a fan of both Revelations but Revelations 2 is 1000000000000 times better than Revelations 1.
The way I like to play Resi games is by playing them the survival horror way and working my way up to the infinite rocket launcher. You get the best of both worlds that way 😉 but to each their own. Guns ablazing can be fun too.
What irks me about being on easy in the remake is it was posed to me under the context of a "police questionnaire" assessment, with the literal question being about a hike, and it had 3 choices. I picked the middle one and evidently that meant easy (even though it didnt give me that impression in the text). I hate crap like that, 'cause I can't change it on this play through (I hope I'm not locked in to this difficulty on Jill's run 😑).
It's bad enough when a game asks me what difficulty level I want when I've never even played the game before.
I don’t “hate” easy games. But they are less likely to hold my attention in a pound for pound comparison.
But I’m not advocating for “easy games”, i’m advocating for games that are, “not so difficult I can’t progress without dying 4 times on the first stage”. What may be easy to another person is respectably challenging for me. And I find on the easy mode I am challenged, I’m not just not overly challenged.
I grew up beating Mega Man 2 and 3, I play Monster Hunter with thousands of hours in the series, set world record competing time trials in DKC Tropical Freeze, beat all the Metroid Prime games and Dread… I’m no stranger to more difficult games. I love challenge. But I absolutely despise excessive, frustrating challenge.
“Easy mode” doesn’t automatically mean easy. Every person is different with a different level of skill for each and every genre depending on their particular skill set. And for me, Resident Evil games on easy are challenging. They by no means easy. Maybe that’s not true for others but it’s true for me. That is why I love playing it on easy because it’s challenging and engaging but it’s not stupidly difficult to the point I can’t even get through the first hour of the game spending more time in load screens than actually playing because I die so frequently.
That said, I’d much rather play a game that’s too easy than a game that’s too hard, and for me, RE4 is too hard. So I’d gladly play the Wii version if it was HD.
Yeah for some reason RE4's first major encounter is like the hardest part of the game for ages. But that's partially because what triggers you "winning" that segment is weird compared to the entire rest of the game, so it basically expects you to survive rather than win.
Welp I had to stop my playthrough after I returned to the Mansion (after killing the plant, and killing the yawn for the 2nd time as well). Per the original game I expected hunters to be patrolling and they increase the threat level fairly significantly. It's a shame it'll be a few days before I can get a good session in (work, ugh 😑) because I love this game. Remake 2 & 3 are fantastic too, but this is the classic survival horror gameplay that I miss. Y'know the type - where the general "clunkiness" makes it so the player and the monsters are on somewhat equal footing. Makes me want to play Resi 0 again, even though that one isn't on the same level as this.
Arbitrary ranking of Resi games, atm:
1)REmake 1
2)REmake 3
3)REmake 2
4)Resi 0
5)Resi VII
Quite a bit lower) Code Veronica X
I havent played 4 or 5 in ages so I didn't add them. In any case, the top 3 are pretty much interchangeable and what comes after is the same, depending on my mood (with the exception of Code Veronica. Finished it even though I checked out about halfway through).
Just finished Barry’s playthrough of Chapter 1 in RE Revelations 2. I love how the game splits two character arcs, but retreads the same area, but mixes it up with new routes and previously inaccessible areas. You’ll be in some unexplored section and then pop out somewhere and be like, wait… I know where we are! It’s so good.
I’m floored by how good this game is, and am starting to seriously wonder why it’s widely regarded to be not as good as the first.

Ya, that could be. My first experience with the game was on Vita, and… it didn’t even come close to matching the experience I had with the first on 3DS. But that was because it was a shoddy port and without gyro.
I wouldn’t revisit the game until years later when the collection released on Switch. I had bought it again on PS4, but never bothered playing it (as was the case with so many games I bought on that system). I still remember being blown away at the parity brought with the Switch release. Essentially playing the proper console version of the game, but still retaining the handheld freedom Vita offered, with additional gyro and gesture reloading, was impressive. It still is.
I feel like I’ve taken all these RE releases on Switch for granted. But no more.
