It all started with rumours in the Arklay Mountains; grizzly murders in the forests surrounding them. Some officers in the police department spoke of bodies having bite wounds and victims being eaten. A special team of police officers called S.T.A.R.S. started Investigating the area and soon enough they came across a horrifying truth: a virus capable of turning the dead into shambling corpses lusting for human flesh. Resident Evil was born!

And after twenty something years of terrorizing people, the series is not done. The series returns on Switch, with releases appearing in 2019. Which titles can or will be found on Switch?

In 2017 the Resident Evil Revelations collection arrived on the system. The original Revelations tells the story of the Queen Zenobia, a cruiseliner in dire need of help. Series veteran Jill Valentine and newcomer Parker Luciano enter the ship, only to find a new gruesome enemy...

Meanwhile Chris Redfield has problems of his own in his own mission.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 lets you control Claire Redfield and Moira Burton while they are trapped on a terrifying island with a mystery person tugging the strings. Meanwhile in other chapters you play for the first time with Barry Burton, who chases after his daughter and the Island she was trapped on. Can he find his daughter?

In 2019, Resident Evil, or REmake will finally return on a Nintendo platform. Originally a long time GameCube exclusive, its the remake of the original Resident Evil released on PlayStation. With 70% of new content the game became the gold standard for videogame remakes. In this retelling if the Mansion Incident of June ‘98 we follow S.T.A.R.S. members Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield while they discover the dark secrets of the Umbrella Corperation. Also zombies. Crimsonhead zombies.

Resident Evil Zero will join in on the undead fun as well. Before the infamous Alpha squad took on the mansion, there was a young member of the Bravo team who encountered some nasty problems. Rebecca Chambers and the convicted Billy Coen need to set their differences aside and fight new nightmare creatures. Also, Leech Zombies. Yes you read that correctly.

And of course, the game that turned so many heads: the amazing Resident Evil 4. While it somewhat aboneded its more horror roots, it became one of the most intense action games of all times. Leon S. Kennedy of RE 2 fame needs to find the kidnapped daughter of the US president. In Spain he finds clues, but also very angry farmers. So be prepared for one of the most action packed games ever. Writhe in my cage of torment my friend and experience one of the best games ever made... portable!

Super hyped for these three games on Switch. I've played but never owned RE or RE:0 so it'll be cool to finally own them. Re4 is a classic, still one of my all time favorites. Having this on a portable is a dream come true.

Fingers crossed that all three have motion controls.

I’m really looking forward to RE4, never played it. I’m not a super fan of the earlier games, so no. 4’s more action oriented direction sounds cool to me.

Now if they can release a proper physical version of Revelations along with the newly announced stuff, I will be a happy camper.

Knowing Capcom, all three games will probably get a physical release in Japan only.

While NA and EU receive digital only.

REmake is absolutely amazing. It’s the reason why people kept nagging Capcom for a remake of RE 2 for nearly twenty years.

@Magician : A Japan-only physical release (which is likely to include English like most of Capcom's Japanese physical releases so far) is still preferable to releasing these games exclusively via the eShop.

It is obviously not ideal (high shipping costs, indefinite transit times) but it certainly beats the alternative.

I imported the standalone version of Revelations 1 (dubbed the "Unveiled Edition") as I didn't want to have to bother with paying for a code that would require a separate U.S. or Japanese account in order to use.

It's remarkable. I was so excited to hear that the collection was coming to Switch, but then my enthusiasm dissipated upon learning that the second game was download only. Large games would benefit most from a physical release as large downloads, especially on a portable device that relies on relatively expensive microSD storage, significantly adds to the overall cost of the game.

@Silly_G I don't understand the issue with buying micro SD cards but I don't know your financial situation so who am I to judge whether something is reasonably priced or not.

As for the Resi news great great news. Its unlikely but I hope 6 (my personal favourite followed by Zero) makes an appearance.

Now that's the first time I see someone say 6 is their favorite Resident Evil

Oh Resi 6 has a loyal group of people who think the game is amazing.

While it has its moments, personally I think RE 6 is a disappointment. You have four campaigns and every campaign feels different and it shows that it was made by 600 different people. For a singleplayer game it has 30+ hours of content which is rare and cool, the quality is not there overall.

There are several folks who feel that the Chris and Piers campaign is the best thing about the game and that really surprises me. To me it is without a doubt the most bland pure third person shooter campaign you can imagine; in a generation where Japan also produced Vanquish and Binairy Domain its staggering how by the numbers this is. And even worse, the issues of the game like the terrible camera really shows its problems during the cramped levels in China. Lots of times where the camera just flails about while following the action and it really blows. It also has the most terrible railshooter segment of any big budget tripple A game, it was just sad.

The Jake and Sherry campaign is somewhat better. Still is flawed (stealth sections in my RE? Eeh) especially because Jake is more into hand to hand combat which causes camera problems, that horrible snow section, it also has the Ustanak which has some cool Tyrant-esque qualities and a cool final battle.

The best part of the game is Leon/Helena and while it still has some problems, it feels like that team dealt a bit better with the camera (I did not experience the same problems strangely, but it was still eh) and the game felt more like Resident Evil. Sure the Ivy League/Raccoon City like setting helps a lot, but the game felt more fun. Apart from the weird final boss (really? A t-rex) it was neat. Can’t Save the entire package though.

Honestly my personal RE ranking:

REmake/RE 4 > RE 2 > RE 3 > RE 7 > RE 5 > RE Zero > RE Revelations > RE Revelations 2 > RE CVX >>> RE 6

@Yosheel I know right not many fans would agree but even with its flaws(of which there is a few) it was the most fun I've had with the series just a really fun game. The series as a whole has been great for me, with the exception of maybe 7 for me as it wasn't really my thing, and it would be great to see 2, 3 and 5 also make an appearance so we have a good chunk of the series available.

@Sadist Your RE ranking made me laugh - but just because it shows how little of this series I've really played. Only one I've played through, start to finish, is Code Veronica X - and it was second last in your list. Apart from that, I fooled around with the original for a few hours back in the PS1 era.

Anyone else got a ranking? And which RE game should I get, if I only get one of the titles available on Switch?

@Krull

To be fair, I really like Resident Evil so I wouldn’t say that any of the main series games are bad. Even RE 6, which is dead last has some redeeming features. The reason I don’t like CVX that much is strangely, eventhough it was released on a more modern machine at the time, felt more of a step back compared to Resident Evil 3.

Using the action button to go up the stairs, the less smooth movement of the characters, Steve Burnside... it’s not my favourite. It has some highlights though. Claire remains a competent character, the bizarre Ashford twins are weird especially considering the implied incest (and that creepy “look at us burning ants alive and we smile at each other” look) and, well Wesker going full Matrix on us.

Need some updates on these games coming out. There hasn’t been anything lately has there?

Am I the only one who thinks Revelations 2 is one of the best in the series?

I'm a bit sad how luke-warm its reception was. I thought it was brilliant.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Apart from a possible Direct, I’m suspecting that Capcom is fully focussed on giving REmake 2 a great debut in two weeks.

I’m expecting news after January actually. Could be wrong though.

The release date is finally here! So glad they're all coming first half instead of the jam packed second half. I'll definitely start off with the origins collection and hold off on 4 until it's on sale
