Son,6, really enjoys mario kart 8 using the motion setting (turn the controller left and car moves left etc). Anyway, I was going to buy hum the sonic racers game but have read it doesn't have the motion setting.
Can anyone recommend some racing games please with the motion setting?
@BusGeek I have a few other racing games besides Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Out Run and Virtua Racing look like they have motion controls according to their descriptions, they're both on the eShop and they're part of the Sega Ages line. I haven't tried the motion controls though, I'm all used to playing games with a regular controller. Hope this helped!
I checked two of my own games, both Cruis'n Blast and Smurfs Kart, both of them have motion controls where you hold the controller sideways and tilt to steer. If your son likes racing games with motion control, I'd recommend getting the Joy-Con Steering Wheel. Just pop the controller in and it gives that arcade steering feel. I love using it personally.
@MarioVillager92 Gonna advise against Virtua Racing. It's a great game, but the tilt controls aren't the best. I keep having to pause just to "recalibrate" the motion control whenever I tried it. Steering goes off very easily. I appreciate they tried it, but it isn't as fluid as other motion controlled steering games.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
@BusGeek GRID Autosport is the most realistic type of racing game on Switch, and you can play with tilt steering. But whether it's accessible enough for a 6 year old... wouldn't like to say. If they really like racing and want something a bit more realistic though, GRID is the game to go for on Switch. Only available digitally though.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@Sunsy Ohhh, thanks for the heads up, I didn't know that since I don't use motion controls myself. Doesn't sound very intuitive. I was wondering if Cruis'n Blast had motion controls, actually... but I don't have the game. So thanks for that as well.
@MarioVillager92 Yeah, I tried it once wanting the arcade feel when playing Virtua Racing, and I kept finding myself recalibrating since steering went off a lot. For example, I hold the wheel straight, when I tilt, I turn, but when I return it to straight, my car will still go to the left or right. I would have to pause just to "reset" the tilt controls. Virtua Racing is much better with traditional controls.
Cruis'n Blast does support it, even tried it out earlier when I was checking and it works great. You have to enable it in the pause menu. Think I'm gonna play it with the Joy-Con Wheel one day.
Thank you! He's got a plastic steering wheel which I put the controller inside, he loves it, pretends he's in a real car with it!
There's a garfield game which some reviews say it has motion control but others say it doesn't. That's what I've found with the sonic racing game too, he'd like sonic, but don't want to risk getting it in case it hasn't got motion controls
Just looked at Cruis n Blast, that looks fab thank you! Son loves buses (asd) and there are two on that game which he will love controlling, thank you so much!
Thank you so much for recommending Cruise n Blast. We played it tonight and son loves it! Motion controls work well but I prefer using the toggle as I find it a little more accurate. Son prefers the steering wheel so motion control for him!
What I really like about the game which makes it good for my son is the ability to set auto accelerate and also that the cars can't come off the track.
Brilliant game, enjoyed very much so by both of us, thank you!!
