At this point I just enjoy watching people say any legit criticism is some conspiracy against Nintendo, lol. "it's on a FAQ so no one is allowed to complain anymore". It's like an echo chamber at times

@MisterPi I don't think any of the saner people are saying that. What we're saying is the claim of "there's no information" is wrong, and directing people to where the information is.

I tend to counter the "NSO doesn't even meet the basic industry standards for paid console online" with pointing out that it is meeting those basic standards. Some of the ways it does so aren't very good, and you personally may not care for some of the features, but it's meeting those basic standards.

@FaeKnight It just seems like a whole lot of "ugh I wish people would stop criticizing something I'm excited for". There are valid things to say, but whining about how people are upset with what's being offered is just as annoying as people blindly bashing the thing. To me, at least.

I wish that NL would also do a better job at dissemination of the info, too. Might answer folks’ questions better if we all knew where the horse was to find its mouth.

I’m gonna complain about feeling like I need to complain next

I don’t mind someone having an opposing opinion of something I’m looking forward to. There’s certainly a lot left to be desired from NSO. I have gotten weary of everyone trying to sway everyone else’s opinion as if an individual is somehow in the wrong for wanting or not wanting the service.

It's not the criticizing that gets on people's nerves. It's the rabid drowning out of legitimate criticism in favor of bashing everything Nintendo is doing. By just ranting about "it sucks" and attacking others you're not really criticizing the problems. Focus on what the issues actually are, and things are more likely to change then if you drown out those issues with general hate filled spam.

"first party games are peer to peer" is a nonsensical argument for why paid multiplayer is "horrible". Especially if you've been told right from the get go you'd eventually be paying. That has no relevance to the service as it stands. If there are constant connection issues, that would be a valid criticism. And something that could be dealt with. But "peer to peer multiplayer" isn't a valid criticism.

"There's no voice chat" isn't a valid criticism because there is voice chat. "The voice chat phone app is clunky and only works with 4 games total" is valid criticism however.

"There's no SNES, N64, or Gamecube games" is a potentially valid criticism. But personally I am doubting N64, Gamecube, or wii games will be coming to the NES service. SNES games I hope for. But that's just a hope. "Nobody cares about NES games" on the other hand is not valid criticism since obviously people do care about them. Retro gaming is a thing, and it's a lot bigger then some people want to believe.

"It's not value for the money" is a very subjective claim. I personally feel there is value for the price, mostly due to the NES games (and hopefully SNES in the future). Others find the cloud saves (which I'm ambivalent about) to give the whole thing value for your $20 a year. There will be people who consider online multiplayer to be more then enough to justify $20 a year.

@FaeKnight My personal issue is the damage control over all. Instead of trying to push Nintendo be better, because they can and should be better than this, people are trying to excuse it. And it's just as annoying as when the PS4 forced people to pay. Instead of saying "hey this should be better" we have people batting for Nintendo and coming up with excuses for things that shouldn't have any excuses. "Cloud saves are for disaster recovery only, your local ones are still there so it's okay". "You can resub before it lapses so who cares if they delete your saves" "They want to prevent cheating so its okay that some games don't let you use cloud saves(despite the fact that by some witch craft Sony and MS have managed cloud saves perfectly fine for all of their games, third party and first)" We have people here actively advocating for their shortcomings.

And the fact that most of anyone's arguments is "Xbox and Sony do it" and "It's cheap so who cares", which, really, is probably one of the saddest defenses anyone can throw out.

@MisterPi I for one do think paid online for consoles is scummy, but also recognize that the time to protest it's existence passed years ago. It's more a resigned acceptance on my part these days while wondering how long before Microsoft, Steam, EA, and others try implementing it on PC too. Ever since people accepted and embraced paid Xbox Live back around 2002 this has been inevitable.

To be honest, if the NES game service (which I hope includes SNES in the future too) hadn't had such a solid assortment of games I want to play, I'd be ignoring NSO entirely, just like I ignored Xbox Live Gold until they introduced Games with Gold.

@FaeKnight Where the Direct's info went wrong was regurgitating the same limited information we already had as though that's all the information there was to reveal. Even I didn't know there was more, and I'd checked the website hours before the Direct. If one hour the old information is all that exists, and then they do a direct and repeat the same information a few hours later, who would suspect that now the website magically has more information? I found out there was more info in the FAQ because people here were pasting from it.

@HobbitGamer Instead NL writes articles breaking down for us that if you and 5 friends join up you'll each pay $5.833333333!

It's got value to me, and I'm the one spending my money. That's all there is to at this point.

@NEStalgia I suspected there might be at least a full list of the 20 games (I was right) based on the games shown in the Direct including ones not on that initial list.

They're just gettin some mad clicks this week. I swear this thing better not get delayed tonight, I can't handle another week of these articles and fanatics on both sides that are only attacking each other at this point.

@HobbitGamer Dont' worry you can play Splatoon and Kart for the next 18.5 hours while you wait to give them money so you can play Splatoon and Kart.

I jest....sorta...

Right now I'm mostly eager to find out if cloud saves work the way they should work, or if they're still only good for "primary" machines. And I'm still holding the tiniest ray of hope that digital games will actually be account based now, rather than "primary only" but I'm not holding out that much hope. That shouldn't be something I have to wait to pay to test but....it somehow is.
