@DTMOF84 on Nintendo’s NA site. If you click on Support in the top right, the next page will show some service announcement links in red at the top. It said that after the maintenance, the system update will be available. That’s the update that allows you to get a sub on your system.

Maintenance Date and Time
September 18th, 2018 (Tuesday)
5pm to 8pm Pacific Time | 8pm to 11pm Eastern Time
After the maintenance is complete, Nintendo Switch Online memberships will be available for purchase. Nintendo Switch owners won’t automatically become members when the service starts, so they will need to purchase an Individual or Family Membership in order to avoid disruption of their online play in compatible games. Memberships can be purchased or redeemed through Nintendo eShop and Nintendo.com once the maintenance completes.
I cannot get a sub until after 11pm Eastern

@subpopz
The "service" that only works for a select few games, gets deleted when you don't re-sub before your current sub ends and that Xbox gives for free without Gold.
@Kinoen Indeed, if cloud saves/backups for free is a priority, XBox is certainly value loaded, at least for this gen. That could change next gen, but since it's consistent with the Windows/OneDrive policy (mostly for pushing Office 365 subscriptions that up your free TB to 5TB) so it's likely to remain.
Most
Sony keeps your saves for a few months. Nintendo not at all, however, while XBox is clearly leading in value on that front, I don't think that aspect is really a negative in Nintendo's camp. The others are just being unusually generous there (likely an attempt to lure you back into a sub if you lapse.) Most internet services, be it a web host, mail host, virtual servers, DVR service, etc will dump your data the moment a sub expires. Your local copy still endures you just lose the cloud backup....which isn't unfair since you're not paying for the cloud backup anymore...... You can make a new backup when you pay again.
There are many problems with this service, but that aspect isn't really one of them.
@NEStalgia
Should I not count Xbox and PS being "unusually generous" as a positive then?
Xbox keeps your data forever, PS gives you 6 months, Nintendo gives you a handful of games it works on and gets deleted the moment the sub ends. I fail to see how this is not counted against Nintendo's service.
Sure, that how it works for internet services (haven't used much if any myself), but Gold and Plus doesn't work like that, so why does Nintendo?
@Kinoen for xbox it's a plus. I suppose it's nice on ps but I'm not sure 6 months really helps much. If you're subbing once every six months you're giving them $20 a year and getting 2 months, versus 60 a year and getting 12 months. The jokes really on you, not them, they got the better end of that deal. So it's kind of a perk for beinga sucker?
Definitely a benefit from Microsoft though. I didn't sub for 7 years and they still have all my360 saves to plug into x1 bc. And i don't need to pay a dime. That's a heck of value.
Maybe it has been asked already but I didn't find any answer to it:
Is there any downside if I team up with my friends to form a family group?
What happens if the family account expires? Can people leave the group and do a single membership?
Also do we know if the exclusives like the NES controller are for every member or just one for the whole family?
Thanks!
